ANTHONY JOSHUA has dropped a huge hint that he could fight Tyson Fury in September.

AJ was cheering on runners at the London Marathon when he was asked by the BBC when he could be back in the ring.

Joshua confirmed he is waiting in the wings to face the winner of Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk.

The undisputed heavyweight title fight is set for May 18.

And the world champion could be set for another mega-money fight – potentially worth £200million against AJ.

Joshua said: “Boxing is changing a lot, there is a new player, Turki Alalshikh, who is taking the world by storm.

“He is doing what he wants for the fans, it’s amazing.

So if the fans demand it, I know that he will deliver. I know the fans want me and Fury, I want that.

“I’m not going to give away plans, but he is a man of action.

“It’s coming, most definitely it’s coming.”

Asked if that is going to be his next fight, Joshua replied: “To be honest, he said be ready for September.

“Why he said that is because they have got a fight on June 1, all the heavyweights, five vs five, Eddie Hearn vs Frank Warren.

“And they have got Fury vs Usyk in May. And then they will have me in September. It’s unbelievable.”

Joshua’s latest update on the potential bout comes just days after meeting up with Saudi promoter Alalshikh.

Supporters have long been desperate for the two British heavyweights to go head-to-head – but AJ’s defeats to Usyk in 2021 and 2022 halted the chance of it happening.

SunSport understands Alalshikh and events group Sela – who sponsors Newcastle – could branch out to the UK and potentially host Fury vs Joshua at Wembley.

Anthony Joshua joked that he barely had time to enjoy Christmas before fight brokers reminded him ahead of New Year’s Eve that he would soon be turning from his late-December stoppage of Otto Wallin to meet former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in March.

Joshua’s destructive second-round knockout demonstrated that his activity was high and the union with trainer Ben Davison was going swimmingly.

And now Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs) will wait to see what transpires May 18 when the man he lost his three heavyweight belts to, Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs), steps into a ring in Saudi Arabia against Joshua’s countryman, Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs).

Although a rematch clause exists between Usyk and Fury, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has said he would like to stage the long-awaited Joshua-Fury bout in the interim, should Fury defeat Usyk.

In discussing Joshua’s future on Friday’s episode of Pro Box TV’s “Deep Waters,” analyst and former welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi said that he believes Joshua has fully resurrected himself from those consecutive losses to Usyk in 2021 and 2022.

“The new-look Joshua with [former Fury trainer] Davison … I’m buying what they’re selling,” Malignaggi said. “I really feel he’s a threat to Usyk if they fought a third time.”

Joshua’s ability to so convincingly defeat a problematic southpaw in Wallin, who opened up a gash on Fury that required 47 stitches to close, and then destroy Ngannouy after the former UFC heavyweight champion knocked down Fury and took the bout to the scorecards, is a significant turn.

“I’m back on the Joshua train,” said Chris Algieri, another “Deep Waters” analyst. “If I’m making a video game character of a heavyweight, I’m making that guy. He’s got everything: the look, the power, the technique; the attitude is back.”

While Joshua lost some luster in losing his U.S. debut in a stunning TKO loss to Andy Ruiz Jr. at Madison Square Garden in 2019, his revival in this Saudi doubleheader makes him the top challenger to whoever emerges victorious May 18.

The wrinkle is the Usyk-Fury rematch clause, and if that takes precedence following a tightly contested May 18 bout, then Joshua should turn to unbeaten Croatian Filip Hrgovic (17-0), should he defeat Daniel Dubois on June 1 in Saudi Arabia, said Malignaggi.

“Can we start mentioning Filip Hrgovic and make this an actual sport?” Malignaggi roared. “Hrgovic has been avoided. The Joshua-Hrgovic and Fury-Usyk winners should fight.”

Algieri agreed that if Hrgovic “washes, dismantles” Dubois, then he deserves that opportunity to test Joshua’s chin.

“We’ve seen [Joshua] be inconsistent, and that inconsistency starts here,” Algieri said, motioning to his head.

A heavy blow to Joshua’s head “can happen anytime, and it’s like what Mike Tyson said: your life changes with one punch. It’d be very easy for [Joshua] to revert to that guy who struggled against Andy Ruiz.”

With Davison in his corner and a major bout looming, the presence of Joshua adds to the anticipation of activity in the sport’s most compelling division.

Tyson Fury did the media rounds on Wednesday at a press conference ahead of his fight against Oleksandr Usyk, which will take place on May 18.

Although Usyk is the main focus, the topic of Anthony Joshua came up. Joshua could very well face the winner of Fury-Usyk, although he’s already lost twice to Usyk.

Tyson Fury calls Anthony Joshua a “fat sausage”

A fight against Fury could be on the cards whether Fury beats Usyk or not, and it sure sounds like Fury is already trying to promote that one. First, Fury called Joshua a “useless sausage“.
Fury himself even said that he expects to fight Joshua not once but twice following the Usyk fights.
He then followed up later by claiming there’s no bad blood between the two boxers. But then he delivered an eyebrow-raising quote when prompted on what he thinks of Joshua’s recent improvement since hiring a new trainer.

The battle for all the marbles was pushed back from its February 17 date after Fury pulled out due to a cut above his right eye sustained in sparring.
At a press conference in his hometown of Morecambe, the reigning WBC champion was told by Alalshikh: “Tyson, you are the diamond in world boxing. You know I want you to be our crown jewel for 10 more fights.”

Tyson Fury has warned Oleksandr Usyk that while the Ukrainian might have defeated Anthony Joshua he won’t be able to overcome an “elite, big” heavyweight.

“Anyone would have to respect the man’s achievements. He’s unified heavyweight champion, undisputed cruiserweight champion,” he added.

He is determined to leave his mark on the sport’s history and crown himself as, indisputably, the best heavyweight in the world next month.

“I’ve studied this game all my life. This is my time, my destiny, my era, and my generation,” he said.

Tyson Fury has emphasised facing Anthony Joshua is part of the plan for his next few fights if his fellow Briton “keeps going and keeps winning”.

Since being beaten twice by Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 and 2022, former world heavyweight champion Joshua has recorded four victories, most recently a second-round knockout win over ex-UFC fighter Francis Ngannou in Riyadh last month.

WBC title-holder Fury is currently preparing for a May 18 clash at the same venue with Usyk, who has the WBA, IBF and WBO belts, to crown the first undisputed world heavyweight champion of the century.

And on Joshua being part of the equation for what lies beyond that, Fury told the PA news agency: “Yeah, for sure – if he keeps going and keeps winning, like I’m going to keep doing.”

He added: “Either way, me and AJ could still fight at Wembley if we were 50 years old and still make a s**t ton of money. I think that’s facts for sure.”

In February, just after the meeting with Usyk had been rescheduled for May, Fury spoke about five fights he had in mind – two with Usyk, then facing Joshua “maybe twice” before a rematch against Ngannou, who he beat via split decision in October.

Fury said that was “just the start…five fights for you to whet your appetite”.

At a press conference in Morecambe on Wednesday, the talk was of 10 fights, with Turki Alalshikh, a Saudi adviser who has helped put on major boxing events, saying via a phonecall that was played out over a top-table microphone: “We want Tyson for five, seven, 10 fights more.”

And Fury told PA: “Ten-fight plan. Ten fights for over a billion dollars – doesn’t sound bad does it?”

Fury, who said he felt Joshua “did really well” against Ngannou, was knocked down by the mixed martial artist in the third round when they fought in October last year.

The clash between Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) and fellow unbeaten fighter Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) had originally been scheduled for February 17th, but was postponed 15 days prior to that after the former suffered a cut above his right eye in sparring.

Fury at Wednesday’s press conference described himself as being in “fantastic shape” and expressed his confidence he will defeat Usyk, the former undisputed cruiserweight champion who made his heavyweight debut in 2019, stressing that “size really matters”.

The 35-year-old added that it was “my time, my destiny, my era and my generation”.

“I’m not really proving anybody wrong or right any more, I’m just doing it for the fun and love of the game really.

Oleksandr Usyk appears to have bulked up to face Tyson Fury.

The Ukrainian has been pictured in his training camp as he prepares to take on the ‘Gypsy King’ for a chance to become undisputed champion, the first since Lennox Lewis achieved the feat in 1999.

Usyk posted footage on a speed ball, showing off both his fast hands and impressive shape, where he looks significantly bulkier than in previous appearances on social media.

And fans were quick to react, with one writing: “Usyk is always in shape, but he looks like he’s ready to fight right now!”

Another agreed: “Looks in great shape, and his arms seem a lot more muscular than normal.

One even predicted: “You’re looking at undisputed champion right here, I’ve said it from the start.

“Usyk will bully him with his hand speed and better footwork.”

Although some were less optimistic, with a fan writing: “Things to note – Bag high up to imitate Fury’s head. Punching up reduces power. Usyk has got no power.”

A viewer was more impressed with his skills, concluding: “Absolutely amazing skills while looking at the camera, he only missed the ball once!”

The Ukrainian previously reigned as undisputed cruiserweight world champion, before piling on weight to compete in the blue-riband division.

He has made a huge impression despite being smaller in size, beating Derek Chisora, Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois since stepping up.

But the size difference to 6ft 9ins Fury could be huge on the night, given the unified champion stands six inches smaller at 6ft 3ins.

Fury has regularly aimed critical jibes at Usyk for his size, but many are expecting the Ukrainian to possess the superior boxing skills on the night.

The Briton also himself looks in brilliant shape, and has shown off a remarkable transformation since narrowly beating Francis Ngannou in October 2023.

The British boxing legend anticipates Usyk will get a read on Fury early, nullify him on the inside and then outwork him over the distance.

‘The Gypsy King’ is 6ft 9in and tends to weigh in at around 270lb for his fights.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Usyk, who previously boxed plied his trade in the cruiserweight division, stands at 6ft 3inch and will likely be 50lb lighter when he steps on the scales.

However, McKenzie, a former three-weight world champion and veteran of 46 professional fights (39-7), expects Usyk’s boxing IQ to shine through.

“Usyk wins, I hate to pour cold water on anyone’s parade but for me, Usyk wins because he’s a much more complete all-round fighter,” he told talkSPORT Fight Night on Saturday.

“I don’t think Fury has boxed anyone like him and Usyk will be so up for this fight and a good Oleksandr Usyk probably hold his own with just about any heavyweight that’s ever lived…

“His ring IQ, he’s very intellectual, very sensible, he punches perfectly, he times himself perfectly, he can nullify the bigger guys’ size.
