Anthony Joshua is travelling to Saudi Arabia to watch Tyson Fury v Oleksandr Usyk from ringside, putting his name on the agenda – but will he face the winner?

The prospect of an all-British, multiple-belt title fight between AJ and Fury under the arch at Wembley has been touted for years, but it still remains unclear as to whether that showdown will ever materialise.

Movement on the Fury-Usyk front will thaw the heavyweight division out of its current freeze, and Joshua’s presence in Riyadh will inevitably add spice to the pot.

Anthony Joshua is highly unlikely to fight the winner of Tyson Fury v Oleksandr Usyk in 2024 due to a rematch clause between the latter two fighters.

The loser of Fury and Usyk has a contractual right to trigger a rematch, expected to go ahead in October 2024 barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Therefore, Joshua is likely to be denied a shot at Fury – or a third crack at Usyk – until 2025 at the earliest.

Speaking of Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh, the British fighter told talkSPORT: “We’re on the same page and he’s on the same page as the fans as well.

“He’s trying to deliver what the fans want, I know they want that big fight with Tyson Fury and he’s working on it.

“But Fury’s got his obligations with Oleksandr Usyk, so I’ve gotta make sure I stay focused and disciplined, keep steamrolling through opponents so I can get closer and closer to having the opportunity of me versus Tyson Fury.”

AJ is set to fight in September, with Deontay Wilder, Filip Hrgović, Daniel Dubois and Zhilei Zhang on the shortlist of opponents.

Fans can tune in to watch Tyson Fury v Oleksandr Usyk on DAZN PPV for a £24.99 fee with a free month of DAZN.

Derek Chisora has let slip who he believes Anthony Joshua will be fighting next.

‘Del Boy’ claims AJ will box the winner of Daniel Dubois vs Filip Hrgovic at Wembley Stadium when he makes his return to the ring later this year.

Of course, that is coming from a man who is not directly involved in planning Joshua’s career path, although Chisora is close friends with AJ and is currently represented by his management company, 258 MGT.

“He will fight the winner of Daniel Dubois and (Filip) Hrgovic in Wembley (Stadium),” Chisora told iFL TV.

Dubois and Hrgovic are reportedly set to face each other on a blockbuster card on June 1 alongside Dmitry Bivol vs Artur Beterbiev, plus Deontay Wilder vs Zhilei Zhang in the Queensberry vs Matchroom 5 vs 5 event.

It is unclear whether the fight will be for the IBF belt which is expected to be vacated after Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk’s undisputed showdown on May 18.

The IBF are next up in the heavyweight sanctioning body rotation system and are due to order their mandatory challenger, Hrgovic, to face the winner of the four-belt showdown next.

However, the heavyweight titans have a rematch clause signed into their contract, so are unlikely to be able to accept the IBF’s call.

The IBF have already confirmed that they will strip the winner of the undisputed fight should they proceed with a second fight, and instead order Hrgovic to fight the next-highest-ranked boxer for the vacant title.

Currently, that is Joshua, who is placed at No.3 in the IBF rankings with the No.2 spot unoccupied.

Meanwhile, Dubois occupies the No.4 spot with the sanctioning body.

Joshua recently revealed his next outing would be in June or July.

However, if Chisora’s claims prove to be true then he is more likely to box in September.

His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, revealed last month that he plans to stage a huge show at Wembley Stadium in September.

“I’m talking, thinking and studying with Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn to do something huge in Wembley in September as a commercial for Riyadh Season,” he said.

One of the few fighters who could sell out the 90,000-seater would be AJ so it would make sense for him to headline that card.
