Jonathan Owens recently said he’s “the catch” in his relationship with Simone Biles — despite the Olympian being the most decorated gymnast of all time. And her fans aren’t having it.

Owens, 28, and Biles, 26, both appeared on The Pivot podcast, hosted by former NFL players Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor, and Channing Crowder, in a wide-ranging interview that also discussed how the two athletes met.

In a clip of the podcast released on Tuesday, the Green Bay Packers safety told the hosts he met Biles on the dating app Raya.

“I didn’t know who she was at the time, but like, the first thing I saw was she’s got a bunch of followers, so in my mind, I’m like, she gotta be good,” he said.

When pushed about how he could have possibly not heard of the multi-Olympic gold medalist, Owens said he had been busy.

“When she won the Olympics, I was in college, and we didn’t have NBC. We didn’t have Olympics channels and we’re in camp. We’re in camp in late July, early August,” he said. “So I’m not paying attention…I’m like, ‘Lemme see who this is.’ I never really paid attention to gymnastics, so it piqued my curiosity.”

After Biles messaged him on the app, the two eventually wed in April 2023 in Houston, People reports.

Clark later asked Owens: “So you was really the catch?”

“I always say the men are the catch,” Owens responded.

Owens’ response drew criticism and consternation across the internet — especially as the clip dropped the week Biles was named the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year for the third time.

“Simone Biles’ husband is a walking red flag,” said one TikToker.

“The way this unknown man sat there and tried to humble his wife, Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast in history, Simone Biles. In the words of Adele, ‘Divorce babes, divorce,'” said another.

One X user went all the way back in Owens’ X profile to dig up a tweet in which he proved he was at least aware of the sport (though Biles didn’t compete in the 2012 Games).

Still, there were some users on social media who seemingly defended Owens, writing: “Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens [are] clearly happy together and they can joke about how they met and initially got together but leave it to total strangers on here to get irrationally invested and upset over his comments about their relationship.”

To be fair, Owens is not the only person to end up dating or marrying someone whom they didn’t realize was famous at the time.

Lena Dunham’s husband Luis Felber said he had to Google her before they went on a date. The singer Lily Allen just thought “Stranger Things” star David Harbour was “a sexy policeman from a reality TV show” because he’d posted a pic of himself in his Jim Hopper costume.

Despite the online backlash, Owens seems to be “unbothered” by the criticism over his comments, or at least that’s what he posted on Instagram on Friday.

“Just know we locked in over here,” he wrote.

Business Insider reached out to Owens for comment on the backlash but didn’t hear back immediately.

Simone Biles brought a little bling to the basketball arena!

The 27-year-old Olympian doubled up on the sequins for a night out with her husband, Jonathan Owens, as the couple apparently caught a Houston Rockets game at the city’s Toyota Center on April 5.

While the Miami Heat ended up handing the Rockets a 119-104 loss, Biles’ outfit was a total win. She teamed a bright red pair of sequined cowboy boots with a white sequined Prada bag. She shared a close-up of both on her Instagram Stories on April 6.

Biles also posted a few other shots of the outfit, including two selfies with her NFL player husband, 28, who opted for ripped biker jeans, a few chains and a matching brown T-shirt to go with his brown sneakers.

Since her boots commanded the room, Biles kept the rest of her outfit relatively simple. She rocked an oversized dark denim jacket, matching denim shorts and a white cropped T-shirt.

This wasn’t the pair’s first time at an NBA game. They previously attended a matchup between the Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers at the Toyota Center on Jan. 29.

Just last month, Owens shared his gratitude for Biles in a heartfelt Instagram caption in honor of her 27th birthday on March 14. The couple has been married since April 2023.

For the special post, the Chicago Bears safety called his wife his “rock” and his “best friend,” and shared 10 images from an oceanside photo shoot in Hawaii.

“My heart, my rock and my best friend all in one,” he added. “I love you so much baby, this is going to be a special year for you and I can’t wait to support you every step along the way.”

American star gymnast, Simone Biles Owens, has won her first competition, two years after a difficult run at the Tokyo Olympics.

The athlete faced several difficulties at the 2021 competition including “twisties”, a condition which makes gymnasts lose orientation mid-air.

She also revealed she had been dealing with mental health issues during the period after losing a family member.

Biles withdrew from several events at the games citing concerns for her mental health and physical safety. She however won third place at the beam finals in the competition.

She participated on the uneven bars in which she scored 14.0, her lowest in the game. She also landed 14.8 and 14.9 points for her beam and floor exercises routines respectively. Her vault routine earned her 15.4 points and 59.1 points in total for the competition.

Biles placed first at the competition which was held in Chicago. She was followed by Leanne Wong, who scored 54.1 points in total. The win qualifies Biles to compete at the 2023 U.S. Gymnastics Championships which will take place at California, later in August.

Despite being a sturdy Texan resident, Simone Biles holds a special partiality towards the NBA squad of Golden State Warriors. It all comes down to the presence of Wardell Stephen ‘Steph’ Curry II in the number 30 jersey. The blandishing went to a heightened level when Simone wished to babysit Steph Curry’s children, Riley and Ryan, out of joy. That awe still exists in the 27-year-old gymnast.

So, when Curry required special support for an astounding task in the basketball arena last night, Simone Biles appeared. Adding an extra voice of support, Jonathan Owens joined her in the box. With that, multiple goals were achieved last night in Houston.

While Steph Curry’s Golden State Warriors extended their victory run in the arena, the Biles-Owens couple immersed themselves in the box, enjoying the warmth. To make the spent moment a memorable one, Jonathan clicked a selfie with Simone Biles and posted it on his IG story. In the meantime, the athletic couple took a moment to pleasure themselves by noticing the balling prowess of Steph Curry against the home team, the Houston Rockets.

In the same IG story, the NFL safety captured the movements of both teams in the arena. However, the game ended with handing the Golden State Warriors a season-high six-game victory on a trot. But while enjoying her favorite basketball player’s game from the box, for Simone Biles it was one of the rare moments while her husband was with him despite the NFL season taking a start.

Jonathan Owens will handle the safety post being the ‘Chicago Bear’ this time. The practice is already in full swing. In the same IG stories, the 28-year-old NFL homebody added about his balance practices with the squad on a sand-filled ground. In the meantime, he came to Simone Biles to enjoy his leisure time. However, the couple received some good news a few days ago from JO’s previous club.

The rare achievement before starting the new season

Jonathan Owens’s leaving report from the Green Bay Packers came out of the blue. However, his performance in the last season does not hold a similar stature. Even, according to the NFL, Simone Biles’s husband was eligible to receive the highest performance-based pay from the GBP. So, as per the rules, his earnings went beyond the regular ones from the present lineup.

As per the available report, it is USD 671, 433. It comes after comparing the playtime and the salary, donning the club’s jersey. In that situation, Jonathan Owens earned a big, being the consistent performer in the previous club. That recognition made Jonathan Owens more phenomenal and Simone Biles celebrated the moment in the arms of her husband, spending a shared time.

Kaliya Lincoln’s recent performance at the 2023 Pan American Games was spectacular, solidifying her status as a primetime player for Team USA. Her outstanding display of skill and determination led to her capturing not just one, but two gold medals – one in the team event and another on the floor exercise. A two-year hiatus from international competition due to a stress fracture in her shin at the end of 2021 and diagnosis of OCD in her knees, requiring surgery, could have derailed her career.

Kaliya Lincoln’s recent video has sparked an outpouring of love and admiration from her fans, with supporters eagerly sharing their heartfelt comments and reactions. One of the fans witnessed Simone Biles’ performance and exclaimed, “I would say that she has the potential to be the 2nd best behind Simone because Simone is the only outlier who can break 15 on floor as of now. Domestically, I don’t think Jade is gonna outscore her even with her Olympic floor difficulty because Jade doesn’t have some valuable dance elements (credible double L / double wolf turn) and she loses at least 0.3 in her D dance elements.”

Other fan commented on Lincoln’s potential to follow in Biles’ footsteps and become a dominant figure in gymnastics and said, “She has the potential to be the best floor worker in the world.” A fan shared their sentiment, saying, “God her tumbling is so good, I really want to see her floor in Paris! Someone else chimed in with enthusiasm, “I am rooting for her to make the Paris team!” Another fan expressed a high level of confidence in Kaliya Lincoln’s abilities and said, “I think she has a really high chance for a floor medal in Paris, but I’m not sure whether the selection committee will pick her or a gymnast who can do a Cheng + a potential low 14 floor.”

Simone Biles once shared WCC’s story on #KneadingDough: The Podcast, revealing her frustration at lacking a proper gym for training. One day, her mother surprised her by telling her they were going to the grocery store but took her to a plot of land and said, “I just purchased this lot. We’re going to build a gym.” Despite initial trepidation, they embarked on a journey, transforming that empty plot into a place where dreams were realized.
