Roy Jones Jr has warned Jake Paul that Mike Tyson can punch with all the strength of a mule’s kick.

Tyson, 57, and Paul will lock horns at the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on July 20 in an exhibition bout streamed live on Netflix.

There is a 30-year gap in their ages but boxing icons have cautioned Paul about his opponent’s immense power.

Jones Jr fought Tyson in 2020, a split decision draw which was billed as the ‘Lockdown Knockdown’ and generated over £63million in revenue.

‘Mike Tyson is still the strongest puncher that I’ve ever been in the ring with,’ he told Shane Mosley.

‘The first time he hit me in the chest, it felt like a mule had kicked me in the chest.

‘And if he hits anybody with a shot like that, they are either going out or down, especially guys who are not used to being hit like that.

‘With these types of people like Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis, these guys are bigger and can take it.

‘But Jake Paul, I don’t think he’s going to be able to take that.

‘It might hit him on the chin like that, we’ll see, but it’s going to be tough [for him].’

This assessment isn’t coming from any old weakling.

Jones Jr is a former four-weight world champion, having held titles from middleweight all the way up to heavyweight.

He had 76 fights with 66 wins and 47 knock-outs, taking on the likes of Bernard Hopkins, James Toney, and Joe Calzaghe.

Lennox Lewis has also cautioned Paul, a man whose career in the limelight began by posting videos on Vine.

Lewis, who fought Tyson in 2002, knocking him out in the eighth round to retain his three world title belts, said: ‘It’s going to be a great fight, I am looking forward to it.

‘No [I’m not upset about it not being a professional bout], because I would feel really bad for Jake Paul. I don’t want him to get hurt.’

With the highly anticipated bout between boxing legend Mike Tyson and YouTube sensation-turned-boxer Jake Paul getting closer, former opponent Roy Jones Jr. has issued a chilling warning to Paul, likening Tyson’s ferocity to that of a “Pitbull dog.”

Jones Jr. says Mike Tyson won’t hold back

In a recent interview with Boxing King MediaJones Jr., who faced Tyson in an exhibition match in 2020, emphasized that age wouldn’t hinder Tyson’s performance.

“We [are] warriors. We don’t care about getting punched-[we] don’t care what age we are. This [is] what we do,”Jones Jr. declared.

Addressing concerns about the exhibition nature of the fight, Jones Jr. dismissed any notion of restraint from Tyson, stating, “Mike [doesn’t] know how to hold back. Mike’s like a Pitbull dog. Pitbull dogs don’t know how to play. It’s going to turn [into] a fight either way.”

Jake Paul, known for his controversial matchups with UFC fighters, expressed both excitement and apprehension about facing Tyson.

While Jones Jr. predicts an easy victory for Tyson, recent reports suggest potential alterations to the rules, fueling speculation about the nature of the showdown.

The fight, which is scheduled for July 20th at AT&T Stadium in Dallas has been surrounded by mystery regarding the regulations it will be held under.

A source from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations claimed that the contest might only be sanctioned under exhibition rules.

Despite uncertainties, fans eagerly await the clash between ‘Iron Mike’ and ‘The Problem Child’ on July 20, craving more than just a spectacle but a true test of grit and skill in the ring.

Roy Jones Jr believes Terence Crawford is the pound-for-pound king of boxing.

However, ‘RJ’ insists fellow two-weight undisputed champion Naoya Inoue is ‘fast on his heels’.

“Right now the pound-for-pound king with the Kid [Naoya] Inoue right on his back,” Jones Jr told talkSPORT Drive.

“I’ll tell you why, Terence Crawford has been dominating for the last ten years, ain’t nobody come close.

“The only reason he didn’t get the pound-for-pound title earlier is because no one higher up the ladder would give him the opportunity, but he is definitely now pound-for-pound the king.

“Inoue is fast on his heels because anyone you give Inoue, he destroys.”

Jones Jr’s assessment lines up with the Ring Magazine’s pound-for-pound ratings which have Crawford at No.1 and Inoue at No.2.

Just below them on the boxing icon’s list is Dmitry Bivol who faces Artur Beterbiev on June 1 in Saudi Arabia for all four major sanctioning body belts at light-heavyweight.

Providing Bivol wins that fight, Jones Jr believes he can leapfrog both boxers into pole position.

“After that, you’ve probably got to go with [Dmitry] Bivol, he’s been doing his thing for a while,” he added.

“Bivol has shown that he can beat whoever he wants to beat, now if he beats [Artur] Beterbiev he’s going to get the new crown of pound-for-pound king.”

Crawford became the consensus pound-for-pound king after beating Errol Spence Jr last July to become undisputed champion at welterweight.

In doing so, he became the first two-weight undisputed champion in the four-belt era having already claimed all of the titles at super-lightweight six years prior.

Inoue was the second man to achieve this distinction when he followed up his reign of dominance at bantamweight with another four-belt unification at super-bantamweight at the back end of 2023.

Roy Jones Jr insists Oleksandr Usyk will have to make Tyson Fury respect his power if he hopes to beat him.

The Ukrainian slickster is not known for being a massive puncher, particularly at heavyweight, where he is on the smaller end of the spectrum.

At cruiserweight, he racked up a few impressive stoppages, most notably his vicious knockout of Tony Bellew in 2018.

But since moving up in weight the majority of his fights have gone the distance, barring Chazz Witherspoon retiring on his stool and Daniel Dubois seeing out a count on his knee.

Instead, Usyk has won most of his fights by using his superior speed and fundamentals to thoroughly outbox his opposition.

However, Jones Jr anticipates this won’t be enough to defeat Fury when they duke it out for the undisputed heavyweight crown on May 18.

“Usyk is a great tactician but he’s not all that explosive,” Jones Jr told Darren Bent and Troy Deeney on talkSPORT Drive on Thursday afternoon.

“If he was explosive it would be a problem. When you are smaller coming up to the big guys you’ve got to bring explosives to the ring or they won’t respect you.

“If he can’t find those explosives before that fight takes place he will not beat Tyson Fury, I don’t care what they say.

“Tyson Fury didn’t take Ngannou seriously and he didn’t look the way he should have against Ngannou but he’s still Tyson Fury and he’s definitely going to take Usyk seriously.”

Jake Paul has left a good impression in his role as a boxer. In his short career, the influencer has a 9-1 record; however, his next opponent is none other than Mike Tyson, and according to former boxer Roy Jones Jr.“Iron Mike” could be more than the “Terrible Child” can handle.

Jones, champion in four different weight divisions, was Tyson’s most recent rival. Officially retired in 2017, Jones Jr. returned to the ring to face Tyson in an eight-round exhibition fight four years ago.

Although the fight was declared a draw, Jones Jr. was able to see firsthand that Tyson still retained the punching power that led him to rack up 10 successful defenses of his world heavyweight championship.

Following his experience with TysonJones Jr. issued a warning to Jake Paul“If he hits anybody square on the chin it’s going to be problematic, I don’t care who it is.”

Tyson still hits like he did on his best days

In conversation with “The Lunch Club,”Jones Jr. recalled that the Tyson-Paul fight would no longer be an exhibition and would be sanctioned as a real fight. “If it’s a fight, it’s very interesting how it may turn out,” noted the former champion.

He admitted that Paul has improved with each fight, “but Mike Tyson, even at 58 or however old he is, is still Mike Tyson. When I boxed him, he still punched like Mike Tyson.”Jones also warned, “If Mike comes out and does what Mike normally does, then it’s going to be a tough situation for Jake.”

“I like Jake Paul,”Jones admitted, “he’s a good guy, and he’s doing good with his boxing stuff. I think it’s a good promotional situation for him and Mike. They should go really good numbers, especially having upgraded to a real fight.”

Finally, he considered that there is still hope for Paul“If Jake can stay away from him for four or five rounds, then Jake has a chance, but he’s going to have to do a lot of maneuvering to stay away from him.”

However, he agreed with Jones Jr. by pointing out that the attention the fight is generating is almost incredible, and he said he feels grateful for the reception it has had from the public.

UPDATE :Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson: Everything you need to know, including rules and predictions

Tyson and Paul will meet on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. In yet another twist that so-called “influencer boxing” has brought, Netflix will stream the fight exclusively.

A weighty topic consuming boxing these days is who should be Gervonta Davis’ next opponent.

“Tank” currently competes as a lightweight but has previously fought at 140 pounds and it’s been said by his camp that he could even still make 130 pounds.

There is no scarcity for top-shelf opponents Davis could face. Chief among them are lightweights Shakur Stevenson and Vasiliy Lomachenko and super lightweights Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez Jr.

In recent weeks, Davis has even been open to fighting Conor Benn, who last fought at 150 pounds and 154 pounds before that.

Hall of Fame fighter and former four-division champion Roy Jones Jr. was the pound-for-pound king during his heyday and knows first hand giving up size advantages. Jones famously stepped up from light heavyweight to heavyweight in 2003, competed at a 33-pound disadvantage as a 193 fighter to score a unanimous decision win against John Ruiz for the title.

“Tank has been doing a great job of what he’s been doing, so he doesn’t have to call anyone’s name. He’s fine because he’s must-see TV by himself. That’s what you want to be able to be,” Jones told BoxingScene.com in an interview. “If you’re must-see TV by yourself, it doesn’t matter who you fight. The rest of those guys need him. He doesn’t need them. So, for him he can fight whoever he wants to fight.

Haney Responds: "Truth Be Told I Beat The Shit Out Of Tank"

“Yeah, they’re going to demand that he fights some names soon, but in the meanwhile, he fights whoever he wants to fight because why? He’s must-see TV, no matter who he’s in there against.

“You want to see him fight Shakur. Yeah, you want to see him fight Haney. Haney is probably going to outgrow him. Shakur ain’t going to be far behind that because [Davis] is short, and they’re not.

“So, if he’s going to fight one of them, he better hurry up and do it now because the longer he waits, the more it weighs in their favor. They’re both going to get bigger than him. So, maybe he’ll go and fight Loma. They’re both still at 135. Why not go and fight Loma now? I don’t know. Tank is a very difficult guy to deal with. He’s got a lot of weapons and a lot of tools.”

Davis last fought in April and knocked out Ryan Garcia in a 136-pound catchweight clash.
