Floyd Mayweather recently claimed he made millions from his eternal rival Manny Pacquiao’s announcement that the two boxers would spar in the near future.

On New Year’s Eve, Pacquiao shocked the world by revealing a fight with Mayweather was in the works.

The eight-weight world champion was beaten by Mayweather nearly a decade ago in a fight that generated the most revenue to date at £500 million.

Years after the fight, Pacquiao, now retired, boldly claimed a rematch was on the cards at a RIZIN event.

Mayweather’s response

The announcement apparently did not sit well with Mayweather, who slammed his former rival while appearing on The Pivot Podcast.

“It’s so crazy when he spoke about it. I could have easily come out and say, ‘Yeah you spoke about it I ain’t have to say nothing’. Just by him saying my name they gave me a cheque for $4 million.”

Known for his outspoken nature, Mayweather further claimed Pacquiao’s claim to fame was mainly the hype surrounding the possibility of the Filipino boxer dethroning him.

After getting floored in 2015, Pacquiao blamed the defeat on an apparent shoulder injury, per Sports Illustrated.

For Mayweather, he recorded two more professional wins against Andre Berto and Conor McGregor before retiring with a flawless record of 50-0.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) unfortunately rejected a request to have the retired boxer compete at the games, effectively killing his dream of representing the Philippines at the Olympics.
