Just two months into the 2024 tennis season and after our first edition of our ATP power rankings we are definitely starting to see some players rise and potentially challenge Novak Djokovic for the top spot on the ATP tour. In fact, as you will see below, we see one player already overtaking Djokovic. For now, at least.

Following a busy week in Rotterdam, Buenos Aires, and Delray Beach last week – and it should be noted Djokovic played in none of those tournaments – but with mostly expected results, there were not many changes. The top of the rankings changed and the bottom as well.

The question is, of course, how long the new number one can stay atop the rankings. He has not lost this year so far. Here are the rankings as we see fit now.

Power ranking the ATP top ten

1. Jannik Sinner (Previous ranking – 2)

Following his triumph in Rotterdam there is really no doubt that Sinner is the hottest name in the sport right now. The past few months have been incredible for the 22-year-old and with some big wins over players below him on the list in recent times, he has certainly justified his spot at number one.

2. Novak Djokovic (Previous ranking – 1)

Any list without Djokovic at the top feels a little bit wrong, but having not seen him on court since defeat in Melbourne, it’s natural for him to be replaced by his Italian rival. The top two will both return to action at Indian Wells, a few weeks from now, and we’ll see then if Djokovic can get back on top.

3. Daniil Medvedev (Previous ranking – 3)

The Russian is another not to have played since the defeat at the Australian Open, but in Medvedev’s case, the chasing pack hasn’t quite done enough to take his spot in the top three. He is scheduled to return in Dubai but has been struggling with injury, so it could yet be a few weeks until we see Medvedev back in action.

4. Carlos Alcaraz (Previous ranking – 4)

The Spaniard was upset by Nicolas Jarry in the Buenos Aires semi-finals this week, costing him another great chance at a title. Alcaraz hasn’t reached a final since his defeat to Djokovic back in Cincinnati last year and is in desperate need of a good week in Rio to start turning his fortunes around.

5. Alexander Zverev (Previous ranking – 5)

Zverev is set to make his return to action in Los Cabos this coming week as the top seed, where he’ll look to start climbing the rankings. Luckily for him, the mixed fortunes of those behind him have kept his position in the top five safe, at least for now.

6. Andrey Rublev (Previous ranking – 6)

Rublev’s quarter-final defeat in Rotterdam wasn’t enough to see him climb into the top five. The gap isn’t insurmountable, however, and a strong week in Doha could quickly see him make a jump.

7. Taylor Fritz (Previous ranking – 8)

Fritz’s first outing since losing at the Australian Open saw him pick up his first title of the season at Delray Beach. The American didn’t drop a set all tournament and looks to be one of the strongest players on tour at the minute.

8. Alex de Minaur (Previous ranking – 9)

It’s a jump up the rankings for the Australian, who’s 2024 just keeps getting better. A great week in Rotterdam reaching the final only reinforces the form he’s in. He’s got a chance to really prove his credentials when he heads to Los Cabos this week as one of the favourites for the trophy.

9. Hubert Hurkacz (Previous ranking – 7)

The Pole might feel hard done by to fall by a couple of places, but the last few weeks haven’t been the best for Hurkacz. Reaching the semi-finals in Marseille wasn’t bad, but an early exit in Rotterdam was far from ideal. A week off might do Hurkacz some good, with Dubai a good chance to climb up the rankings the week after next.

10. Grigor Dimitrov (Previous ranking – Unranked)

It’s a top-ten debut for the Bulgarian following a strong week in the Netherlands, and reaching the final in Marseille a week prior truly shows the form that the 32-year-old is in. We’ll have to wait and see if Dimitrov can push on and add a few titles to his name in 2024, but as of right now, he’s certainly a worthy inclusion in the top ten.

Tennis players need to follow a strict diet to always be on top of their game. Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic is already known to be a stalwart in the field, who maintained a great fitness and dietary regime. Much like Djokovic, the Italian tennis star and the world’s number-one player, Jannik Sinner also expressed a huge dedication to his lifestyle.

Previously Sinner spoke about his diet plans before the semi-finals of the Miami Open in 2021. He mentioned how a little snack in the evening doesn’t hurt the fitness requirement of the players. Now he impressed his fans by revealing a Djokovic-like focus on his health and fitness.

Recently, in an interview, Sinner candidly opened up about being structured and focused on maintaining his health. That is why he chose to limit his celebratory moments in between the hectic schedules of tournaments. Sinner said– “Right now I’m 100% careful about it. For example: on Sunday I played the final, the next day I flew to Italy and the following morning I immediately went to the gym. I didn’t celebrate excessively, I didn’t drink, because it’s not good for the body. We went to eat something and then I went back to the hotel.”

Previously, Sinner explained his dietary habits to the fans. He mentioned- “Honestly, for me, it’s not important so much what I am eating. I am just trying to somehow, when I have to eat carbohydrates or protein, just trying being in like the biggest or easiest food. It’s very simple. It’s not that if I am going to eat dessert in the evening, I am going to lose the match the day after. That’s for sure not what we think. A dessert in the evening, I’m always eating.”

Jannik Sinner also mentioned that during extremely hot temperatures, this Italian tennis prodigy prefers to change his food habits a bit and eat better. He thinks this is how he has been able to maintain his performance in extremely hot conditions of the Australian Open tournaments. Sinner’s dedication to fitness and lifestyle reminded fans of Novak Djokovic, who once responded to Navratilova by saying that he doesn’t drink alcohol. Djokovic also mentioned that he hadn’t had beer for years.

Serbian tennis player and world No 1Novak Djokovic returned to practice on the tennis court for the first time since he was surprisingly eliminated by 22-year-old Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open in January.

Although he said goodbye without being able to win the first Grand Slam of 2024, Novak will compete in the 2024 Indian Wells tournament to be played from March 6 to 17, according to the schedule published on his website.

Djokovic will seek to win his sixth Indian Wells title in this 2024 edition, after having won it in 2008, 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2016. His last participation in this tournament was in 2019.

The 36-year-old tennis player currently holds 40 ATP Masters titles. The last time Djokovic competed in a Masters tournament was in Paris in 2023, where he took the title by beating Grigor Dimitrov in the final.

Novak Djokovic’s physio Miljan Amanovic has recently been seen in his box after scaling back his responsibilities.

Novak Djokovic’s long-serving physio Miljan Amanovic was forced to adapt his career after suffering a heart attack which he attributed to the stress of travelling on the tennis tour. Amanovic started working with the world No. 1 back in 2007 but has since taken a step back, working at Djokovic’s tennis centre in Serbia and travelling with him on a part-time basis.

Amanovic has been one of several trusted figures in Djokovic’s camp since the early days of his career. The pair started working together a year before the Serb won his first Grand Slam title in 2008 but they briefly split in 2017, when Djokovic gutted his team entirely, also axing long-term coach Marian Vajda and fitness trainer Gebhard Phil Gritsch.

While Amanovic eventually returned to Djokovic’s box, it came after he suffered a heart attack which meant that he could no longer travel full-time. The incident is mentioned in Novak Djokovic: The greatest of all time, a new book profiling the 24-time Major champion’s rise to the top of tennis.

After making a full recovery, the Croatian physio later said: “I survived a severe heart attack. I was resuscitated four times. Now I can say that it was God’s will in the true sense of the word, because if only one link in the chain of events had not been in place that day, I would probably have left this earthly life. They say that they fought for me for 40 minutes.”

Djokovic eventually rehired Amanovic and Vajda after getting rid of them in 2017. While Vajda left the camp for good in 2022, Amanovic has been seen cheering the world No. 1 on as recently as last month at the Australian Open. But he was forced to relieve his workload after the heart attack.

In 2022, Djokovic announced that the physio would be taking up a new role at his Novak Tennis Centre in Belgrade. “Miljan has travelled a lot, he has got three kids. Also, we have big plans here in the Novak Tennis Centre, we intend to transform it to an Academy, and Miljan is one of the key people there. I am delighted that he has accepted that role, he will mean the world to us,” he said during the Serbia Open – a tournament held at his facility.

But Amanovic was back in his team by the end of the year after the world No. 1 got rid of his other physiotherapist Ulises Badio, who he hired in May 2017. Amanovic – who also worked with Red Star Belgrade – travelled to the 2023 Australian Open with Djokovic, who won the title despite suffering a hamstring tear.

He paid tribute to his long-time physio for looking after his body during the tournament, telling Serbian reporters: “Miljan is one of the closest people in my life. He has been working a lot these days, always gives his best. I am very grateful to Miljan, it would be a lot harder without him.”

Renowned tennis author and commentator Chris Bowers expressed a surprising fact about Novak Djokovic in the group of tennis’s big elite trios. The rivalry between Roger Federer and Spaniard Rafael Nadal was always celebrated more. It was 2003 when Djokovic turned pro in the scene. Chris Bowers evaluated how Djokovic entered the scene slightly and achieved way more than the Federer-Nadal duo.

Now Bowers knows Djokovic’s life details since he wrote the Serbian tennis god’s biography. He also narrated in an interview that Djokovic’s life stories are truly inspirational for any tennis young enthusiast. Now he delves deeper into Novak Djokovic’s position as a tennis personality.

Author and commentator Chris Bowers talks about profiling tennis legend Novak Djokovic

In Tennis Channel’s recent podcast, Chris Bowers spoke about the Federer-Nadal on-court rivalry and Djokovic’s swift entry into that group. He mentioned how despite not reaching the Federer-Nadal status at the beginning, the Serbian tennis god achieved more than the duo.

Federer and Nadal congratulate Djokovic for tying their Slam record

In this podcast, Bowers said- “Djokovic was a boy from, he wasn’t from poor background, but he was from modest surroundings, no history of tennis. It was a massive learning curve for the families had to go into the background of real chaos. Much better story. And yet the Federer book sells 10-1 better, which tells you something. If someone’s more popular, their story will sell, even if it’s not as good story as somebody who’s less popular. And that’s the tragedy of Djokovic. He is less understood because he’s not as popular, perhaps because he was the third man in a two man show.

Sharing the clip, the official X (formerly Twitter) page of Tennis Channel wrote- “‘People loved the Federer/Nadal rivalry, and Djokovic was a slight interloper in that respect, and ended up achieving more.’ Author and commentator @chris1bowers discusses what he learned profiling @DjokerNole on the Inside-In Podcast.”

In this same podcast, Bowers spoke about Novak Djokovic’s struggles to become a professional tennis player despite the war-like situation in his country while growing up. Bowers said- “the economy at the time when he was a teenager was really chaotic. When NATO planes bombed Belgrade, he had to move his practice every day, because they had to work on intelligence about, you know, what was likely to be bombed and what was probably going to be safe.”

Chris Bowers’s statement about Djokovic represented that despite his outstanding tennis achievements, he is not celebrated as much as Federer and Nadal are among the fans. However, looking at Djokovic’s great career track, he surely deserves to be acknowledged as one of the best ATP players.
