Tyron Woodley’s two professional boxing fights have resulted in a pair of losses to Jake Paul, but the former MMA star is now setting his sights on Manny Pacquiao.

“I don’t wanna have to start ruffling Manny Pacquiao’s feathers, but if that’s what I gotta do to get this done because I can’t just linger around waiting,” Woodley told TMZ Sports. “If I take another fight, that can f–k this fight up.”

Woodley said he’s been negotiating with Pacquiao’s camp for months, but the two sides have not been able to reach an agreement. The deal would apparently pay Woodley and Pacquiao millions of dollars to go head-to-head, despite Woodley’s two appearances in a boxing ring being underwhelming.

Woodley lost to Paul via split decision in August 2021 and then was knocked out by the Problem Child four months later. Dating back to the four straight losses that ended his MMA career, Woodley is now 0-6 in his last six fights.

In the same TMZ interview, Woodley revealed he was supposed to originally fight longtime Pacquiao rival Floyd Mayweather last year. Mayweather instead pivoted to an exhibition against John Gotti III.

“I was supposed to be the original fight, and the plug kind of got pulled,” Woodley said.

Pacquiao retired from boxing after losing to Yordenis Ugás in August 2021. He performed in an exhibition against DK Yoo in December 2022 and has expressed an interest in a more serious potential return.

The 45-year-old held political office as a senator in his native Philippines from 2016 and 2022 and cited those commitments at the time of his retirement. With his schedule clearer two years later, it’s possible Pacquiao could return to the ring for a paycheck against a likely overmatched Woodley.

After Floyd Mayweather dominated Manny Pacquiao in 2015, all three judges scored the bout in Mayweather’s favor to declare him a winner by UD. While Burt A. Clements and Glenn Feldman scored the fight 116-112, Dave Moretti scored 118-110. However, when Max Kellerman interviewed Manny Pacquiao immediately after the match, ‘PacMan’ said he thought he had won the fight. Now, almost echoing Pacquiao, an interviewer lately told Mayweather that some people thought the Pacquaio fight was “close“.

In his response, Mayweather strongly defended his laudable victory against Manny. In doing so, he bragged about being a Hall-of-Fame inductee. By the by, ‘TBE’ announced he could still demand $100 million for a fight at 47. Here is what happened.

As per the data uploaded by BoxRec, there were eight rounds when all three judges gave Floyd Mayweather a 10-9 score against Manny Pacquiao. However, all three judges felt Mayweather also lost the fourth and sixth rounds against ‘PacMan’. And ‘TBE’ largely agrees with the judges. As per ‘Money,’ he lost only two rounds against the then WBO Welterweight champion at MGM Grand, Las Vegas. Therefore, when ZOOM correspondent Rudrani Chattoraj said there were people who “nitpicked” Mayweather’s performance against Manny, the 50-0 boxer had to correct her.

They never said that with Manny. That was a blowout. That was a 10-2. You really could say 11-1. But, I’m going to say I’mma be a gentleman and give him two [rounds],” said Floyd Mayweather about the $600 million fight. “We know he won one round for sure. But, the other one could have been close. So, we’ll say 10-2. [And] 10-2 is a blowout,” he added.

Along these lines, speaking about the naysayers, Mayweather declared he was in the Hall of Fame for a reason. “I could have been in the Hall of Fame 20 years ago. I just went into the Hall of Fame a few years ago. [So,] I’m appreciative. I’m very very thankful for all the naysayers. For all the people who wrote articles about me,” said ‘TBE,’ who believes he can defeat Pacquiao 100 out of 100 times.

So, that’s why I’m still in the position right now at my age. I can still go out and demand $100 million,” he concluded proudly. With that said, do you agree with Mayweather on ‘TBE’ winning 10 rounds against Manny Pacquiao in 2015?

Floyd Mayweather added another wrinkle to the fallout of his fight against Manny Pacquiao by saying he would be open to a rematch after the Filipino southpaw recovers from shoulder surgery, according to an ESPN report on Tuesday.

Mayweather has one fight remaining on his Showtime contract and has repeatedly said he intends to retire after a bout fight in September, although after Saturday’s fight he told reporters that he is “human” and occasionally contradicts himself.
“I will fight him in a year after his surgery,” Mayweather, who earned a unanimous decision over Pacquiao, told Smith in a text on Tuesday, according to ESPN.
His reported comments added to the complicated aftermath of the so-called “Fight of the Century,” with possible lawsuits in the works and Pacquiao likely to face disciplinary action for failing to disclose a pre-bout shoulder injury.

Barely one hour after the contest ended, Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, said the 36-year-old southpaw had been hampered by a previous injury to his right shoulder.
On Monday, an MRI scan in Los Angeles confirmed the boxer has a torn rotator cuff that will require surgery.
Apparently neither Pacquiao nor his team informed the Nevada Athletic Commission about the shoulder issue until a couple of hours before the start of the fight when they asked for an anti-inflammatory injection.

When Team Pacquiao filled in its pre-fight medical questionnaire on Friday, a query about any shoulder injury was clearly marked “No” before the form was signed by Pacquiao and his advisor.
The fact that Pacquiao did not disclose his injury until the night of the fight could also lead to possible lawsuits from boxing fans who may feel cheated after paying record sums for tickets in the MGM Grand Garden Arena or pay-for-view (PPV).
Some of the ringside spots in the 16,800-seat arena demanded up to $350,000 on resale site StubHub while a record $300 million or more is expected in PPV revenue from at least three million customers who paid $100 to watch.

Floyd Mayweather played coy this week when asked about a rumoured rematch with Manny Pacquiao, amid reports that the old rivals could fight in an exhibition match.

With 4.6m reported buys, Mayweather’s 2015 bout with Pacquiao remains the highest-grossing boxing pay-per-view of all time. However, many fans lamented the dynamic of the fight and claimed it had occurred five years too late, as the American comfortably outpointed the Filipino.

Speaking on The Pivot Podcast on Tuesday (20 February), Mayweather said: “When Manny Pacquiao spoke about that, he shouldn’t have, because there’s a time and a place for everything.

“I’m not gonna say he’s right, and I’m not gonna say he’s wrong. But it’s so crazy: When he spoke about it, I could’ve easily come out and said: ‘You spoke about it, I ain’t have to say nothing.’

“I want you guys to go check out Manny Pacquiao, when he got upset a few times, when he said: ‘Oh, Floyd, you’re using my name.’ But remember, he got famous because they said: ‘This could be the guy that could possibly dethrone the king.’ Did it happen? Absolutely not. Was it easy? Absolutely.Per reports, Pacquiao, 45, and Mayweather, 46, could fight each other on a Rizin card in Japan. Rizin is a Japanese mixed martial arts promotion.

There have been talks about a fight between eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao (62-8-2, 39 KOs) and the undisputed welterweight champion Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs). If Pacquiao’s trainer is to be believed, ‘Pacman’ will soon be ready for the potential showdown.

Justin Fortune, Pacquiao’s former strength and conditioning coach, was in an interview with Lucky Block. In conversation, he mentioned that he is not interested in seeing a rematch between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) and instead wishes to see him face Crawford.

“That’s a massive payday, and guess what, it’s a 50-50 fight. Manny has a 50 percent chance of winning because he’s still a freak athlete, and it wouldn’t take much to pull him into shape,” he said. “The power he has is a gift from God, he hasn’t lost his power. Manny has never ducked anyone. He’s always fought the best, and not saying Mayweather’s not the best, but he’s old. I’d prefer Manny to come back and prove himself against a current world champion like Crawford.”

Fortune stated that pulling Pacquiao back into shape would not be an issue. However, he added they’d have to work on his speed and explosivity. “He was a gym rat. I could pull him back into shape for Crawford in eight weeks. Of course, we’ll need to know when to push him or pull back because of his age,” Fortune mentioned.

The only way to “become greater”

Pacquiao’s team might not be the only one eyeing a Crawford fight. In fact, Teofimo Lopez has been vocal about fighting the champ. Lopez had previously taken a dig at Crawford, an action that ‘Bud’ expressed his displeasure to. In a later interview with SkySports, Lopez opened up about his thoughts on a potential Crawford fight.

What would I be if I didn’t do these things? Who would I be if I didn’t face the best? That is the only way I become greater.”
