Mexican heavyweight Andy Ruiz Jr. has expressed his desire to have a third bout against British boxer Anthony Joshua.

“He gave me an opportunity, I gave him an opportunity, and we have another one. I think it’s great. He’s doing what he has to do. I welcome him. I’m not here to speak badly about any fighter. I think Joshua is doing his job, but now it’s my turn. Now I’m back at 100%,” stated Ruiz.

Recall that in the Ruiz-Joshua rivalry, the score stands at 1-1 in terms of victories. In 2019, Ruiz scored a highly unexpected technical knockout victory over then WBA, WBO, and IBF world champion Anthony Joshua.

Joshua, on March 8th, convincingly defeated Francis Ngannou, with the fight lasting only two rounds. Among the potential opponents for the British boxer are the winners of the fights between Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang, as well as Filip Hrgovic and Daniel Dubois.

Anthony Joshua has backed Oleksandr Usyk to beat Tyson Fury next month – and is keen to take on both men in the future after he “steamrolls” his next opponent in September.

On May 18, the two heavyweight champions will take to the ring in Saudi Arabia to settle their score.

They were previously supposed to face off before the bout was rescheduled due to a cut that Fury picked up in his training camp.

“I’ve fought Usyk, so I can only speak on what I’ve experienced with him—a phenomenal fighter. I would say he’s going to do a really good job,” he told TalkSport.

“I’ve never fought Fury, so I can’t speak about what it’s like to face him. Only speaking on what I know, I have to say Usyk will be victorious.”

Joshua has lost to Usyk twice on points and was heavily criticised for his performance in the first fight.

Former heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. has expressed his desire for a trilogy fight against Anthony Joshua, signaling a potential rematch between the two renowned heavyweight boxers, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

In a remarkable upset in June 2019, Ruiz seized victory from Joshua, claiming the heavyweight titles in New York.

However, Joshua reclaimed his titles in a rematch held in Saudi Arabia six months later, concluding their immediate rivalry with one win each.

Acknowledging Joshua’s recent resurgence, Ruiz attributed his opponent’s regained momentum and confidence to his commendable performances in recent fights.

“He’s getting his momentum back. He’s getting his confidence back. I think that’s the most important thing. He’s doing what he’s supposed to do. I think he’s doing his thing. I’m just happy for him. I would love to have that trilogy with him,” Ruiz said.

“He gave me that opportunity. I gave him back that opportunity, and there’s one more. I want to become a two-time heavyweight champion of the world.”

Joshua and Wilder both fought on the same night last December, with a view to meeting in April 2024, but the British-Nigerian was forced to face former UFC champion Francis Ngannou instead, after Wilder’s defeat.

Boxing legend, Mike Tyson, has described former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua as a dangerous boxer while giving his thoughts on the current crop of heavyweight stars.

Six-time heavyweight champion Tyson is considered an icon in the sport by peers and boxing fans and has remained in tune with the heavyweight division, where he fought for over 20 years from 1985 to now.

He became the youngest heavyweight champion in the world at age 20 in 1986, a feat that remains untouched.

Speaking with Joe Rogan on his podcast, Tyson praised the current generation of stars, including Joshua and Fury, who have dominated the division’s new era. Regarding Joshua, Tyson said, “He has never lost hope, he is still learning. That’s why he’s dangerous. Because he’s still learning.”

Mike Tyson gave brutally honest opinion when asked to predict Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua

“Joshua needs to pick up the pace. He’s got so much potential. He has got to turn those jabs into something. Joshua is no walkover. He’s going to have a beautiful life after boxing. He’s beautiful,” Tyson added.

Joshua’s power punch-hunting methods and inconsistent game plan execution have been criticized throughout his career as he tends to leave himself vulnerable to heavy counterpunches.

Many have suggested that the British’s boxers biggest flaw is that the more aggressive he becomes in a fight, the more he will take punishment. However, his recent performances seem to have dispelled those beliefs for now.

Tyson Fury’s power and fundamentals have culminated in a nearly flawless record (34-0-1) with two wins against Wilder in their high-profile trilogy.

The lineal champ will defend his undisputed heavyweight championship against Oleksandr Usyk in an upcoming contest billed “Ring of Fire” on May 18, 2024, at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

“It’s weird to take him seriously because he’s so funny. He doesn’t take fighting seriously, he laughs at people, licking the blood. What’s wrong with this guy? You’ve got to be out of your mind,” Tyson said on Fury.

For Usyk, Tyson admired the Ukrainian fighter’s quickness, precision, and elite movement saying, “Usyk is very hard to hit, he has that elite amateur-level movement. It was too much for Joshua.”

Usyk has won world championships in two weight classes, holding the unified heavyweight title since 2021 and the Ring magazine title since 2022.

While Tyson praised Wilder’s immeasurable power, the 2007 National Golden Gloves received the most criticism from the boxing icon. Even in acknowledging the “Bronze Bomber’s” power, Tyson said, “Having a hard punch is like having a nuclear war, but it doesn’t serve any military value if it doesn’t land on his target.”

British fighter offered an impressive display of clinical efficiency in Riyadh but these events should not happen

In the early hours of Saturday morning in Riyadh it was totally expected and yet still strangely alarming. Joshua had so much time he could plant his feet, take aim and unleash a ferocious overhand right that stuck Ngannou so forcefully on his temple that he began slipping into unconsciousness as he slumped to the canvas. Within seconds, he was stretched flat on his back. The referee, waving his left arm frantically to signal the fight was over in the second round, ran to his rescue.

Anthony Joshua vs. Francis Ngannou: Briton delivers devastating blow as he brutally knocks out UFC star in second round | CNN

Boxing thrives on such graphic violence, which means that, even for those of us who somehow still love the courage, resolve and skill of its fighters, it is ultimately a bleak and often distressing business. Joshua, who has been stopped shockingly by Andy Ruiz Jr and dismantled twice by Oleksandr Usyk, understands these harsh truths. He did not roar or celebrate Ngannou’s demise by climbing the ropes. Instead, Joshua looked away from his stricken opponent and walked quietly across to his new trainer, Ben Davison, who tapped his glove in acknowledgment of a brutal job done well.

They were right not to indulge in jubilation. Joshua did his work with clinical efficiency while showing some of the spite that all great heavyweights carry inside. Mike Tyson used to produce these stoical reactions better than any other fighter. After he had obliterated yet another hapless opponent, Tyson would trudge around the ring with a contemptuous lack of surprise. A sombre expression reflected his certainty the outcome had always been obvious. It was chilling, intimidating and built the myth of Iron Mike.

I Will Knock You Out -Joshua Warns Ngannou - Complete Sports

But Tyson was lost in a dark maze. He unravelled outside the ring and between the ropes. Joshua, a student of heavyweight boxing, has immersed himself in these compelling yet quietly tragic stories – and lived through the pain of his own defeats.

Joshua also knew, as long as he prepared hard and fought with calm intent, he would blow Ngannou away. He has been boxing professionally for 10 years and 10 months, while it is just over four months since Ngannou’s pro debut.

Boxing logic had been skewed on that strange night last October when, in his first fight as a boxer, Ngannou stunned Tyson Fury by dropping him in the third round. Fury got up and shaded a split-decision victory. Ngannou performed admirably and Fury had been lethargic and bereft of his usual cascade of trickery.

Number one' Joshua defeats Ngannou with brutal second-round KO

It turned out to be a mirage as Joshua crushed Ngannou in the desert of Saudi Arabia. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, resorted to the exaggeration that Joshua shunned. “You’re looking at the baddest man on the planet,” Hearn said, stealing one of Tyson’s old nicknames as he pointed to Joshua. “He’s the best heavyweight in the world and I can’t wait for him to beat Tyson Fury.”

Hearn’s statement was almost as absurd as the very idea of these crossover fights. Fury, of all people, spoke with composed good sense as he responded to Hearn’s bombast: “I’m sure Oleksandr Usyk will have something to say about that, considering that he beat [Joshua] twice. It’s me and Usyk who fight for the No 1 and No 2 positions and the undisputed championship of the world [in May]. I had a shit performance against Ngannou. I’ve never said anything different. Joshua knocked him out and that’s what a boxer should’ve done.”

Usyk holds the IBF, WBA and WBO world heavyweight titles, while Fury retains his WBC belt. It has been a week in which Joshua restored some order and clarity to boxing – by underlining the dangerous folly of such crossover bouts. They should not be allowed because lasting damage may yet happen.

Of course, as this is boxing, a grim announcement was made the day before Joshua faced Ngannou. On 20 July, Jake Paul, the YouTube influencer turned boxer, will fight Tyson in “a blockbuster exhibition” at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. It is predicted that the stunt of a bout, to be streamed live on Netflix, will draw a crowd of 80,000 and generate more than $100m. Tyson will have just turned 58.

For all the hard-edged realism Joshua doled out just before 3.30am on Saturday morning, the madhouse of boxing roars on. But, at the dead of night, we were reminded that only real boxers should occupy such perilous terrain.

According to WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman, Anthony Joshua would be “accepted” to challenge Oleksandr Usyk or Tyson Fury for the undisputed heavyweight title.

Fury and Usyk will compete for all the belts on May 18 in Saudi Arabia. Later in the year, they are anticipated to rematch. While this was going on, Joshua(28-3, 25KOs) from England was patiently waiting for his chance. He had defeated former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou via second-round knockout and the prize for winning had been constantly mentioned as facing one of the top two in the division.

According to Sulaiman, nothing would prevent Joshua from eventually meeting Usyk or Fury. “The WBC was presented a sanction request which was to fight for the undisputed. The WBC accepted that sanctioning and we accepted the rematch they have requested,” said Sulaiman in media reports.
“But, if it is not anything to do with contractual or promotion, we would absolutely accept the winner to fight Joshua. The WBC has been very much attentive to this matter. So we have completely freed the ground for the undisputed, for a rematch, and for another fight of that level,” he added.

Following the MMA star’s spectacular boxing debut against Fury, Joshua decisively stopped Ngannou three times during the evening to make yet another statement. The former unified heavyweight champion, who lost his titles to Usyk, is still working to regain his world title opportunity. This was his third consecutive stoppage victory.

Ben Davison would prefer Anthony Joshua enter a third fight with Oleksandr Usyk over a first with Tyson Fury.

Under Davison’s tutelage, following impressive stoppage victories over Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou – opponents Fury struggled with – Joshua has returned to contention to fight for a world heavyweight title having agreed to box the winner of this year’s two undisputed title fights between Usyk and Fury.

Davison was similarly influential in Fury’s return from retirement when he guided him into the risky fight with Deontay Wilder that revived his career, and having since split from the WBC heavyweight champion and more recently been recruited by Joshua, he is potentially on course to confront an opponent he considers a friend.

Fury, at 35 one year older than Joshua, continues to speak positively about Davison’s qualities. It is also tempting to believe that Joshua partly wanted to be trained by him because he already had a future date with Fury in mind.

Davison, however, having enhanced his reputation with Fury and Joshua more than any other fighter, believes that after having helped Joshua rediscover his confidence – he didn’t go as far as to say he wanted Usyk to beat Fury – it is a fight with Usyk, twice victorious over Joshua, he would relish most.

“I don’t know [if it’s also the fight Joshua wants most]. I don’t think he’s fussed. I think he’s a boxer; he gets matched and he’s happy to kick some a*** either way.

“We’re miles away from it at the minute, because Tyson’s got to fight Usyk – potentially a rematch – so, yeah, we’re still steps away from that. We’ll see [how I feel about preparing Joshua for Fury]. When the time comes around, if the time comes around, we’ll see.
