In the post by Laureus on X, Biles stated, “…my standout moments from 2023, if I had to describe it, it would be “unpredictable.”” She said that she didn’t have plans of competing that year, especially with the Tokyo incident still fresh in her mind. On top of that, Biles is a stern planner who likes to mentally chalk out every detail of her life and career, and going into the new season without any prior thoughts about it made her heart quiver with anticipation.

To keep things less pressurizing, Simone confessed her focus was to get back some of her skills first. “And then I ended up competing, which I didn’t plan to, and I’m very big on planning – everything is a set schedule for me“, revealed the 27-year-old. Therefore, according to Simone, “going into a year kind of blindsided was a little bit nice” for her. It gave her the freedom to let things find their own course.

After the incident at the last Games, Biles stayed out of competition for a considerable time, only to return to action in 2023. And what a comeback it was! At the 2023 World Championships, Biles won five medals (four of them gold) to firmly announce her intentions of reclaiming her throne. Considering the fact that the feat took place in Antwerp, the very place where she turned heads ten years ago, made things even more formidable.

What Should Fans Expect From the Next Phase of Simone Biles's Career?

Biles’ tryst with mental health has been a long one. Apart from her troubles during the last Olympics, the entire incident with former US national gymnastics team coach Larry Nassar had left Simone and several of her colleagues traumatized by the experience that they had to go through. Having gone past such horrid moments in her life, Biles has taken a firm stand to advocate for athletes’ mental health. Ahead of last year’s World Championships, the four-time Olympic gold medalist noted that having faith in one’s own self is the key for anyone to continuously perform at the highest levels.

However, with Jonathan Owens by her side, Simone has come out of her shell in style in recent months. The Chicago Bears star never fails to support Biles’ endeavors despite both of them having thigh professional schedules. As the Texas native looks forward to securing her spot as a member of the national team for the upcoming Paris Olympics and touching bases all over the country for the Gold Over America Tour, it waits to be seen if her mental ordeals are now a thing of the past.

Simone Biles is steadily making her comeback in gymnastics. Initially, the seven-time Olympic gymnast was poised to join the US women’s first national team camp of 2024 with a total of 26 participants. In a surprising turn of events, Simone didn’t perform at the Team USA camp. That sparked speculation and curiosity among her fans. Despite missing the USA Camp, a recent social media video of Simone Biles assures that she is ready to showcase her unparalleled talent on the world stage once again.

What Should Fans Expect From the Next Phase of Simone Biles's Career?

Recently, an Instagram handle posted a video of Simone Biles where they showcased some of the stunning shots of Simone performing in various competitions. The original post carried the caption, “Got to shoot one of the greats 📸🌟”. Reposting this video on her story Biles captioned“almost that time again, 😅🤸🎉👀 t-2 weeks.” She further wrote, “I Could Vomit” along with the clip. Apparently, with that comment, she referred to the nervousness of starting the season. And that happens in two weeks, that is May 17th and 18th, when the U.S. Classic in Hartford, Connecticut raises its curtains.

Biles is set to make her Olympic season debut in the U.S. Classic in Hartford. This return to the mat will mark Biles’ first competition since taking herself out of some events at the Tokyo Games in 2021. USA Gymnastics announced the full lineup for the event on April 12 via Twitter. Simone Biles, the world’s most decorated gymnast, will be joined by 2021 Olympic teammates Jade Carey and Jordan Chiles. The participation of 2012 Olympic champion Gabby Douglas is expected to be confirmed later.

This event will serve as a crucial qualifier for the Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships in May and the U.S. Olympic Trials in June, both of which will be essential steps in Biles’ quest to secure a spot on the 2024 U.S. Olympic team. She has been receiving support from her coach, Cecile Landi, as they focus on making her feel comfortable physically and mentally while training for upcoming events. In her recent comments, Biles has emphasized the importance of managing her physical and mental well-being in her training routine and opened up about her struggles.

The two-year break Simone took after the 2021 Tokoyo Olympics due to ‘twisties’ had to face a lot of struggles. During the training, she had twisties despite competing in the Tokyo Olympics just for the team’s sake. Simone had said in the popular podcast ‘Call Me Daddy,’  “I’m fighting demons right now, but I’m fighting for you guys.” She didn’t know what she would do at the event, so she prayed to god. After she got over with the performance, Simone wanted to run away from the people. Simone knew that was not her best performance. She shared in the podcast that her first thought after the performance was, “America hates me, the world is gonna hate me, and I could only see what they’re saying on Twitter right now.”

Simone Biles’ Best Moves

Simone was concerned about what the people of America would think about her after her flop performance. Through therapy, her coach, and her close ones’ support, she could come out of such trauma. Simone has been vocal about her coach, Laurent Landi, saying, “Whenever Laurent (Landi) last year, he told me I was competing. I was like, how can I compete? I’m not over the twisties yet. Because every time I went to bars or beam or floor, I was praying that I did the amount of twist I was supposed to.” At the 2023 World Championships in Belgium, Biles won gold medals in the team competition, all-around, balance beam, and floor exercise. She also won a silver medal in the vault final. With these wins, Biles became the most decorated gymnast in world and Olympic history, surpassing the previous record of 33 career medals held by Vitaly Scherbo. Surely, the Paris Olympics 2024 will add more notches on her bedpost.

Both Simone Biles and LSU’s Konnor McClain found unwavering support and guidance from their coaches during their potentially career-ending gymnastics scare. Simone Biles experienced the twisties in the 2020 Tokyo Games. Amid her recovery journey and beyond, she has been vocal about her coach Laurent Landi helping her overcome it.

For Konnor McClain, while her transition to collegiate gymnastics at LSU has been nothing short of remarkable, she had a rocky way to the top marred by a growth spurt. Her LSU collegiate coach Jay Clark has been a rock by her side through these times. These mentors played a pivotal role in preserving their hopes for the Paris Olympics 2024, turning their struggles into stories of success.

The Media Needs to Stop Comparing Konnor McClain to Simone Biles – An Old School Gymnastics Blog

In an interview with NBC after LSU’s NCAA win, Konnor McClain spoke about her struggles with the full-out dismount off the uneven bars back routine that had been troubling her since an unexpected growth spurt. “I lost it and I just could not get it back,” McClain told NBC. “I got really scared of it. Once I came to school Jay (coach) was like, ‘We’re learning a dismount. That’s the first thing we’re going to do.’ After two weeks of going into the pit, I got my dismount!” McClain competed every weekend for three months, nearly triple what elite gymnasts do in a year. This boosted her confidence and reignited her joy in competing.

Just as McClain found renewed joy and confidence in competing after an intense schedule, Simone Biles faced a similar resurgence during the 2020 Tokyo Games. She experienced “twisties,” which caused her to lose her sense of orientation in the air during the team’s final competition. Her coach has been instrumental in overcoming the block. On a popular Spotify podcast Call Her Daddy, Simone Biles also elaborated saying, “So whenever they were looking at me and doing it, it just like, it’s so weird. And so we, yeah, we had to go back to the basics.” She mentioned feeling uncertain about competing since she hadn’t fully recovered from the twisties.

Konnor McClain’s coach Jay Clark emphasizes the importance of getting McClain healthy, happy, and adjusted to the new environment. She endured the loss of her grandmother and father and underwent two surgeries last year to address a cyst and a metal plate in her hand. Now, she is fully healed and ready to focus on her training. From her announcement of joining the Lousiana State University a season early to originally planning to join the squad at the 2024 Paris Olympics, that decision made all the difference. She said, “The light wasn’t there, it was very dim last year.” She wanted to make a huge difference because she wanted to prove what she was capable of saying. “If they say I can’t do something, I want to come back even better,” McClain said.

Similarly, Simone Biles’ coach, Laurent Landi, has played a crucial role in her preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Landi and his wife Cécile have been coaching Biles since 2018. Their approach has focused on prioritizing Biles’ safety and mental well-being, as seen during her struggles with the ‘twisties’ at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. They have encouraged Biles to compete at the upcoming Olympics and consider transitioning into a specialist role focusing on the floor and vault. Biles shared that going to talk therapy was significantly helpful as it allowed her to “process all her emotions.”

It seems to be fate intertwined with the paths of Simone Biles and Fred Richard. On one side of the coin, Biles was bright and bubbly child, couldn’t sit still and loved spending hours flipping and twisting on the trampoline in her grandparents’ backyard. She was interested in the day-care field trip to Bannon’s Gymnastics, at the age of six, and she trained under the tutelage of her coach, Aimee Boorman. Perfecting her game gradually, it saw compete at the elite level in 2011. Conversely, 20-year-old Fred Richard, too, is pinning badges to his lapels steadily.

Likening him to Biles, Richard too had already showed an inclination at a nascent age by watching gymnasts practicing their routines and staring up in fascination, hoping to emulate them one day with his sinews. At 19 years old, he became the youngest male gymnast in U.S. history to win a bronze medal at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, making him the first American person of color to achieve this accomplishment. However, his love for the sport is tied to his childhood home.

Fred Richard in an interview with Time Magazine has laid out how he got his start in the sport. His mother, Anne-Marie Richard, said, he “literally flipped out of his crib,” and also added, He was always upside down.” A young Fred observed the gymnasts in his older sister Alexandra’s gym and was fascinated. He would imitate the moves he saw back at his parents’ house. Fred Richard said, “I tried it on my parents’ bed and landed on my head a couple of times, so my parents figured they had better put me in some classes.”

Simone Biles faced a crucial moment when her coach left Bannon’s Gymnastix. She was attached to her coach and hesitant about training under someone else, even if it was her mother, Nellie Biles. Nellie sold her nursing homes to fund a gym for the girls to continue training under Aimee Boorman, but the process was more challenging than expected. She shared, I had no idea how complicated the whole process would be. It wasn’t anything like the nursing home business.” The experience was quite different from Nellie’s previous business ventures, leading her to express, If I’d known what wе wеrе gеtting into, wе would nеvеr havе donе this.” But this challenging endeavor led to Biles becoming the unstoppable force she is today, having hosted the Simone Biles Invitational.

After Simone Biles achieved unprecedented success at the 2016 Rio Olympics, her coach Boorman told PEOPLE, “I will always be willing to coach her”,“I will be there as a mentor.” On the other hand, Richard competed at his first elite-level National Championships in 2019, finishing eighth overall but earning a bronze medal in floor exercise behind Nick Kuebler and Khoi Young. Later on, despite being younger than their peers, both quickly surpassed in skill level, mastering advanced techniques that surprised their coaches. However, they also faced setbacks, just as Biles, Richard suffered back injuries that required lengthy recoveries. How does the behemoth games look for them?

Social media fame is an inevitable part of being the world’s most decorated gymnast, and Simone Biles is no stranger to it. With 7.1 million followers on Instagram, 1.6 million on Twitter, and 879.8K on TikTok, she commands a substantial social media presence. However, this fame has come at a cost, often in the form of hate, nasty comments, and criticism. From the aftermath of her 2016 Rio Olympics success to her current preparations for her fourth Olympic appearance, Biles has continuously faced scrutiny and negativity.

Despite this, Simone Biles has consistently responded with grace, often clapping back at her haters with firm but dignified responses. However, Biles was once again left reeling and ultimately fed up with the X app. Let’s delve into the ongoing challenges the seven-time Olympic medalist has faced over the years, and how she has garnered support from countless fans, especially during her recent criticism of Elon Musk’s X platform.

Simone Biles ends the first day of competition at the US Gymnastics Championships with the lead | CNN

On May 1, 2024, Simone Biles tweeted, “X is a scary a** place,” expressing her emotions publicly. This tweet seemed to be an outburst due to the public scrutiny she and her partner, Jonathan Owens, faced after comments he made on ‘The Pivot Podcast.’ However, this frustration goes deeper, as this is not the first time Mrs. Owens has expressed her frustration with Elon Musk’s Twitter.

After the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Biles faced public scrutiny for her mental health crisis, being criticized for taking time off the mat and termed a “quitter” for choosing to protect her mental health. Hate was also thrown at Simone Biles even after her historic performance at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where she won five medals.

Criticism arose over one of her Instagram posts made seven years prior, with followers targeting her serious expression. Responding firmly, Biles said, “Talk to me when you train for 14 years and earn 5 Olympic Medals.” She expressed her frustration, adding, “Take a couple seats.” Additionally, she shared her dismay, stating, “Comments like this have me shook. I really wanted to blur her name out so she doesn’t get attention, but it is what it is… #BLOCK.”

She even faced hate in July 2021 when comedian Michael Che made insensitive comments about her on Instagram. His cruel jokes were posted on Twitter, including a joke about Larry Nassar, the former USA gymnastics doctor convicted of abusing hundreds of girls and women, including Simone Biles.

Then, in November 2022, Simone Biles expressed her frustration with Twitter after Elon Musk’s company took over. In an Instagram story, she showcased her problems with the platform, stating, “I’m literally about to delete Twitter, I can’t stand it anymore.” As we see a series of frustrations expressed over the years, we understand why Simone Biles’ most recent update surfaces. Let us now see how her fans reacted to her post.

So when TeamGB’s fans were weaving their dreams on the Paris Olympic medal probability, the 20-year-old gymnast informed about her bowing out from elite gymnastics. But how could that add to Simone Biles’ TeamUSA’s brimming chance in Paris?

Several injuries troubled the British national gymnastics team. The veteran Ondine Achampong moved out from the line-up. Jessica Gadirova has a faint chance to return, as she is also going through an injury scare. Alice Kinsella is also having the same. So, a replacement before the Paris Olympics could be troublesome. Such a situation might help Simone Biles and her compatriots.
