A 2012 Golden Gloves champion, Davis is also a former super featherweight champion. The Baltimore-born fighter won the WBA (Regular) lightweight title against Yuriorkis Gamboa in 2019. Davis won two fights in 2023, his last contest being a money fight in April against Ryan Garcia. The 29-year-old beat Garcia following several brutal body shots.

Dubbed “the face of boxing” after the Garcia win, Davis immediately dealt with a fight outside the ring. He appeared in court for his alleged involvement in a hit-and-run incident in November 2020. Pleading guilty to four traffic offenses, Davis was sentenced to 90 days of house arrest. However, he violated the terms of his home detention and served the remainder of his sentence in prison.

Back to focusing on boxing, Davis looks to continue where he left off.

Martin earned gold at the 2016 Golden Gloves. After an impressive decision win against Michel Rivera in 2022, he returned and forced Artem Harutyunyan to take a knee in their fight in July 2023. “The Ghost” is ranked high above the WBA rankings, where Davis holds gold.

The co-main event will be David Benavidez vs. Oleksandr Gvozdyk in a light heavyweight fight. Benavidez is a former WBC super middleweight champion who was the top contender for Canelo Alvarez. Realizing he wasn’t getting a Mexico vs. Mexico fight against Canelo at any point soon as Canelo was focusing on other fights, Benavidez moved his focus to light heavyweight.

It’s been nearly a year since the audience last saw him in the ring. But the prolonged wait may finally come to an end. After the sensational knockout triumph over Ryan GarciaAbdul Wahid (previously Gervonta Davis) may finally make a comeback. Per the available accounts, an agreement has been reached between him and Frank Martin for a fight, tentatively by the second quarter of this year. The latter’s WBA lightweight title could be at stake. Discussions over the match’s outcome have already started making appearances across social media. Curmel Moton also shared his two bits on the matter.

He is one of the most prodigious hands to have come out of the Mayweather stable. The teenage sensation scored his third professional victory on the Tim TszyuSebastian Fundora headliner the day before yesterday. The details regarding the ‘Tank’ and Martin match-up have yet to receive any confirmation. However, Moton minced no words when a reporter tried to gauge his views on the potential Abdul Wahid, whom Mayweather Promotions used to promote until 2022, and Martin line-up.

‘Champside’ caught up with the Salt Lake City-born boxer. The reporter asked, “Can I get a prediction on uh Tank versus Frank from you if if that fight were to come?” Curmel Moton replied that it would be a great fight. The way he saw it, Martin might be able to take the lead in the initial few rounds. He clarified that the reason he thought so was because the Baltimorean has shown in the past a tendency to sacrifice a few rounds in bouts.

Uh, I think it’s going to be a great match uh I feel like Frank will probably get the first few rounds; we know Tank give away rounds a lot,” said Moton. However, he added that ‘Tank’ won’t take much time before, using his vast experience, he will catch up with ‘The Ghost’ and force his will to win the contest. The Mayweather boxer said, “I feel like he’ll probably catch him, uh, he used to experience, and catch him later on in the fight and take get the dub.

Abdul Wahid remains, arguably, one of the ‘faces of boxing’. The mere suggestion of his return and fight talks seems to have sent fans and followers into excitement. It may be too far-fetched to consider the bout for a detailed debate. However, it doesn’t do any harm either to check with those whose business concludes with the exchange of blows in the ring.

Curmel Moton professionally debuted on September 30. He scored a first-round knockout win over Ezequiel Flores on the Canelo Alvarez and Jermell Charlo undercard. Two months later, he was back to face Hunter Turbyfill at the David Benavidez and Demetrius Andrade headline event. The second match followed the previous fight’s pattern, with Moton dispatching Turbyfill in the opening round of their match. In the latest edition, he defeated Los Angeles-born Anthony Cuba by a unanimous decision. Yesterday, he even shared a post that showed him standing fourteenth in the BoxRec rankings.

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Frank Martin are set to collide for the WBA lightweight title this summer, and now the potential date of the fight has been revealed.

Davis is coming off an emphatic seventh-round stoppage over social media sensation Ryan Garcia –who himself is now training for his shot at the WBC world super lightweight title against Devin Haney on April 20.

Since that destructive performance in April last year, Davis has been linked with several names in other divisions, including Conor Benn, but has turned his attention to face Martin.

Martin shone in a scintillating performance against Michel Rivera back in 2022 when the American slickster showcased his refined skills, headlining his biggest show at the Chelsea Ballroom in Las Vegas.

In April last year, the 29-year-old returned to Sin City where he took on undefeated German Artem Harutyunyan coming away with a unanimous decision victory.

Why hasn’t Gervonta Davis been fighting?

Like many fighters in Al Haymon’s stable, Davis hasn’t always been the most active.

In this case, rather than boxing politics being to blame, Davis has been unable to fight due to legal reasons.

Just last week, Davis took to social media with a photo of his legs, alluding to the fact he was no longer sporting an ankle monitor he’d been forced to wear.

UPDATE ;Eddie Hearn says Gervonta Davis turned down lucrative offer to face Conor Benn

Many took that to mean Davis was now free to resume full training and a fight was potentially around the corner.

10 months after last stepping foot in the ring, Gervonta “Tank” Davis has his next dance partner. Mike Coppinger reports that Davis and Frank Martin have agreed to headline a PBC pay-per-view “in late spring/early summer.”

Davis (29-0, 27 KO) got off to a red-hot start in 2023, dispatching Hector Garcia and Ryan Garcia in the span of 3.5 months. That marked his fastest turnaround since 2017, but self-inflicted setbacks halted his momentum in his tracks. Davis, who had plead guilty to hit-and-run shortly after defeating the first Garcia, was sentenced to 90 days of house arrest, only to violate the terms less than a month in and spend the rest of the time in jail.

There had been some chatter as to whom he’d face in his return, with Conor Benn making the most recent spurned bid, but it now appears that Martin (18-0, 12 KO) will get the call. “The Ghost” picked up a head of steam with a three-fight, three-win 2022, but like Davis, it didn’t last. Martin had significantly more trouble than expected in last July’s WBC eliminator against Artem Harutyunyan, his sole bout of 2023, and subsequently turned down a guaranteed title shot against Shakur Stevenson.
