It’s ‘Tank’-War now. After that sensational win over Ryan Garcia, which established him as one of the faces of boxing ‘abso-f**king-lutely’, Gervonta Davis returns to the ring on June 15. However, unlike the last match, when he fought a catchweight bout with Garcia, this time he has to defend his WBA lightweight title from Frank Martin. The sparring video of the two boxers had sparked controversy not long ago. They came face-to-face during the kick-off press conference for their match at the MGM Grand Arena.

Incidentally, the event is co-headlined by the fight for the WBC (interim) light heavyweight title between David Benavidez and Oleksandr Gvozdyk. At the presser, the two 175-pounders went about their business in the most composed manner. However, Davis and Martin’s discussion was anything but collected and controlled. The reigning champion went straight after his challenger. It didn’t take him much time to raise his battle cry, reminding Martin about the storm he would face in June.

Initially, it was all smiles. ‘Tank’, after the thank-you notes, spoke about David Benavidez. He revealed how he had been impressed by ‘The Monster’s performance against Caleb Plant. Davis touched base with his prison term and house arrest. He mentioned how happy he was with the comeback, doing what he loves to do. “I’m just happy to be back uh here where I’m comfortable at where I’m you know um I could be flawless, and you know, and do what I do best, and that’s uh give you fans the uh best boxing um you seen up to date you,” he said.

Gervonta Davis and Frank Martin were at each other’s throats during their launch press conference on Saturday night.

‘Tank’ is set to defend his WBA lightweight world title against Martin on June 15 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Gervonta Davis is already in great shape over two months out from his next fight against Frank Martin.

‘Tank’ recently confirmed on social media that he would be returning to the ring against Martin on June 22 in Houston, Texas.

The fight has not been officially announced at the time of writing, however, Davis is already hard at work preparing for his upcoming clash.

Following a gruelling session, the Baltimore banger flaunted his ripped physique in a video uploaded to X on Sunday evening as fans expressed their concerns for Martin.

Reacting to the video, one supporter wrote: “That boy in shape I feel sorry for Frank.”

Another tweeted: “Boy Frank Martin is in a world of trouble, 2 months out and Tank looks like this.”

A third added: “Frank Martin might be going to sleep I can’t lie.”

Davis has been out of action since his seventh-round knockout win over Ryan Garcia in April last year.

Shortly after the triumph, he spent 44 days in prison for violating the terms of a sentence which initially saw him avoid jail time.

Last May, Davis was sentenced to 90 days of home detention, three years probation and 200 hours of community service over his November 2020 hit-and-run car crash which injured four people.

He was later found guilty of violating the terms of his home detention and as a result, was ordered to serve the rest of his 90-day sentence in jail.

It was initially reported that the bout was being targeted for June 15 but Davis has since affirmed that it has been pushed back seven days.

Gervonta Davis has indicated that his next fight against Frank Martin will take place on June 22 in Houston, Texas.

The American lightweight star is known to be nearing a return after more than a year out of the ring, though an official announcement has not yet been made.

Davis won a breakout fight last April when he knocked out Ryan Garcia in their Las Vegas blockbuster.

However, he then spent 44 days in prison after violating the terms of a sentence that initially saw him set to avoid being sent to jail.

At the start of May, Davis was sentenced over his November 2020 hit-and-run car crash which injured four people.

Because he accepted a plea deal and pled guilty to four traffic offences, he avoided a custodial sentence.

Tank was instead ordered to fulfil 90 days of home detention, but was sent to prison not even a month later.

He was adjudged to have violated the terms of his home detention and was ordered to serve the rest of his 90-day sentence in jail as a result.

It was revealed that he violated the terms by trying to serve the home detention order at the Four Seasons Hotel and a $3.4million penthouse, rather than trainer Calvin Ford’s one-bedroom home as the judge had agreed.

Upon being released, Davis spoke out on social media several times to express his anger and frustration about the restrictions placed upon him preventing him from returning to training at times.

In February though, the American took to social media to show that his ankle monitor had been removed.

Therefore, he is now free to move on with his next fight and has agreed a deal to face Martin, something he’s previously confirmed on social media.

It was initially reported that this bout was being planned for June 15, but Tank took to social media again on Wednesday to suggest a slight change of plan.

When a fan pointed out that the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas (the rumoured venue for the bout) was already booked by Megan Thee Stallion for June 15, Davis replied: “I let Meg do her thing… week after.”

Tank is the WBA world champion and will be staking his belt in the fight.

29-year-old Frank Martin is reportedly all set to challenge Gervonta Davis for Davis’ WBA lightweight title.
