Mike Tyson is regarded as ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet,’ but that wasn’t enough to scare Floyd Mayweather

Mike Tyson has never been one to hold back when speaking about Floyd Mayweather. In fact, he once claimed that a prime version of himself would kick Mayweather’s “a**e” in a street fight.

The 54-year-old also slammed the undefeated boxer for believing he’s better than the great Muhammed Ali ever was.

“He’s very delusional,” Tyson said. “Listen, if he was anywhere near that realm of great as Muhammad Ali, he’d be able to take his kids to school by himself.

“He’s a little scared man. He’s a very small, scared man.”

Tyson and Mayweather’s well documented feud has often produced entertaining snippets and for many, a moment in 2015 sticks out as one of the best.

It all went down when the pair bumped into each other at a WBC convention at the Mirage Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Mayweather, who was the WBC welterweight and junior middleweight champion at the time, shook hands with those on stage when ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ entered the room.

Tyson soon approached ‘Money’ and pretended to throw one of those famous right hands before walking away with a smirk on his face.

To his credit, Mayweather didn’t even flinch. He soon embraced the former heavyweight champion of the world while wearing a huge smile on his face.

Of course, this isn’t the only eyebrow raising incident involving Tyson and Mayweather in years gone by.

When ‘Iron Mike’ was asked about the previously mentioned street fight with ‘Pretty Boy’ in his prime, he told GQ: “[I would] kick Floyd’s a**e… there wouldn’t even be no match.”

The former undisputed heavyweight champ put his rivalry to one side with Mayweather when he suggested that he’d lose in a boxing fight if he were the same size as him.

He admitted: “[If] I was his size in the ring, he would outpoint me.”

Mayweather, who boasts an unbeaten record of 50-0, once claimed that he was the best boxer in history and rated himself higher than the likes of Muhammad Ali and Tyson.

Both men have competed in exhibition fights in recent years with Tyson set to battle YouTuber Jake Paul on July 20.

After increasing calls for Rolando Romero to defend his WBA Super Lightweight belt, the fighter finally undertook his defence for the title on 30th March. However, while he’d have hoped to retain the belt under his kitty, his opponent, Isaac Cruz swooped in, and established his dominance, to win it. The loss left ‘Rolly’ and his supporters in a sense of disbelief.

Those in shock included Floyd Mayweather. The former welterweight champion, who stood by Rolly since the inception of his boxing career wrote a heartfelt note in the wake of his devastating loss. In it, ‘Money’ drew from his own experience of defeats to teach his prodigy a lesson on embracing loss. Here is what the Mayweather Promotions kingpin had to say.

On his Instagram, 47-year-old Mayweather posted an image of him with his Las Vegas-origin fighter. While asking him to not let the defeat misalign him from his goal, ‘Pretty Boy’ invoked the achievements Rolly has made so far. He wrote, “I’m incredibly proud of you for achieving the remarkable feat of becoming a 2-time world champion in less than 18 fights, all without any prior amateur background, and in just 14 years of total fighting experience.”

In November 2016, right before his debut, the fighter signed with Mayweather Promotions, and fights under the stable to date. As a mentor, Mayweather explained that wins and losses are two sides of the same coin in the sport of boxing and life in general. He continued, ” In this journey, we call life, you’ll win and you’ll lose, that’s the game. But in life, we all face losses, including myself. So remember, when people try to knock you down, don’t let it keep you there.”

“Get back up, stay true to yourself, and acknowledge just how much you’ve accomplished,” he concluded. For Romero, the loss comes unexpectedly. While the power of his opponent, ‘The Pitbull’ was quite heard of, he showed no signs of concern until the gong went off. In the first round itself, he was silenced with a left hook to the head. While he recovered from the blow, he hardly managed to faze his opponent. In the sixth round, he was dropped to the canvas. While his well-wishers have embraced Rolly in the wake of his career’s second loss, the fighter displayed extreme sportsmanship. Post the fight, he gracefully conceded to Cruz.

At the post-fight presser, Romero, disappointed from the loss kept it simple. He did not make allegations nor did he make claims he could not back up. “We gave the fans a great fight,” said Romero. “Unfortunately, we came up short. I want to thank ‘Pitbull’ Cruz and all the fans that came out and made this a great event. I’ll be back,” he remarked.

While it is unsure where he will take his career next, it will be interesting how he will return to the ring. Who do you think the fighter should go against next?

Tyron Woodley’s two professional boxing fights have resulted in a pair of losses to Jake Paul, but the former MMA star is now setting his sights on Manny Pacquiao.

“I don’t wanna have to start ruffling Manny Pacquiao’s feathers, but if that’s what I gotta do to get this done because I can’t just linger around waiting,” Woodley told TMZ Sports. “If I take another fight, that can f–k this fight up.”

Woodley said he’s been negotiating with Pacquiao’s camp for months, but the two sides have not been able to reach an agreement. The deal would apparently pay Woodley and Pacquiao millions of dollars to go head-to-head, despite Woodley’s two appearances in a boxing ring being underwhelming.

Woodley lost to Paul via split decision in August 2021 and then was knocked out by the Problem Child four months later. Dating back to the four straight losses that ended his MMA career, Woodley is now 0-6 in his last six fights.

In the same TMZ interview, Woodley revealed he was supposed to originally fight longtime Pacquiao rival Floyd Mayweather last year. Mayweather instead pivoted to an exhibition against John Gotti III.

“I was supposed to be the original fight, and the plug kind of got pulled,” Woodley said.

Pacquiao retired from boxing after losing to Yordenis Ugás in August 2021. He performed in an exhibition against DK Yoo in December 2022 and has expressed an interest in a more serious potential return.

The 45-year-old held political office as a senator in his native Philippines from 2016 and 2022 and cited those commitments at the time of his retirement. With his schedule clearer two years later, it’s possible Pacquiao could return to the ring for a paycheck against a likely overmatched Woodley.

After Floyd Mayweather agreed to fight Logan Paul on June 6, 2021, at the Hard Rock Stadium, ‘The Maverick’ took to X and declared his mother was “terrified.” However, besides being 19 years younger than Mayweather, Paul had a six-inch reach advantage against ‘TBE’. But, while Mayweather had 50 pro wins, Paul had only two matches against fellow influencer KSI. Hence, when the duo stepped inside the ring, Mayweather out-landed Paul by 27.3%. But, in a recent interview, Paul claimed Mayweather was “beatable“! However, when Paul was asked to replace a fighter Mayweather was going to face on top of the Burj Al Arab in Dubai on six weeks’ notice, ‘The Maverick’ also rejected the offer. Now, in light of this incident, Logan Paul revealed why he agreed to fight Mayweather in 2021. Here is what he said.

Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul: Round-by-round coverage

Although no winner was announced, ESPN had scored Logan Paul vs. Floyd Mayweather 78-74 for ‘TBE’. Meanwhile, after the match, Logan Paul claimed that Mayweather had not paid him for the contest. Therefore, although Paul stated he could beat the 50-0 boxer in a rematch, he felt he had a “bigger fish to fry“. Anyway, speaking to Graham Bensinger, Paul said “respect” motivated the WWE wrestler to agree to a boxing match against the boxer who held 15 major world championships.

The lead-up to the fight between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney is filled with name-calling. The latter’s father-cum-trainer, Bill Haney, has now roped in Floyd Mayweather and his business aide, Leonard Ellerbe, accusing the duo of recording a controversial sparring video of his son, that went viral earlier this month.

Hostilities percolate deep within for the 20th April matchup. ‘Ry’ in his means of pulling down his opponent, leaked a video of Gervonta Davis causing serious damage to ‘The Dream’ in an old sparring session at the Mayweather Gym. While it looked like the controversy had died down in light of Ry’s other internet antics, it seems like senior Haney is still sore about it.

When asked about the video that showed his son taking some major beating, a riled-up Bill Haney blamed Mayweather and his promotion company’s CEO Leonard Ellerbe for recording the video. He remarked to Fight Hub TV“He didn’t leak the video, he made the highlight film and then gave it to Ryan Garcia to leak it.”

As per reports, the video dates back to when Devin, now 25, was almost 17 and ‘Tank’, now 29 was 21. In the video, Tank can be seen going hard at Haney, leaving him hardly any moment to recuperate. While it showed the 2-division champion under heavy pressure, he claimed that the fight was edited to omit the last few moments of it.

Why did they not release the entire video, though? Senior noted, “Same reason why Floyd didn’t show the video of Devin when he got in his a**. Imma tell you this one time, I guarantee you, after Floyd got in there with Devin, he rethought boxing from a professional standpoint and not an exhibition standpoint.”

In an earlier interview, Senior Haney claimed that when ‘Money’ and his son sparred, the former welterweight champion was not even close to making it equal to Devin Haney. He noted, “He should’ve showed the sparring video of him and Devin while he’s showing all those sparring videos. And it was 6-0, it wasn’t close.”

Haney-Lomachenko: The Week That Was

The Haneys and Mayweather are not on good terms. Post the ‘KingRy’ fight, if he successfully dominates it, Haney will strongly push for a fight against the WBA light titlist, Tank. While he is no longer associated with ‘Pretty Boy’, there are worries if his cordial relationship with the latter implicates the fight against Haney. To these concerns, Bill Haney has an answer.

In the conversation, Bill Haney observed that his beef with Mayweather and Ellerbe would not jeopardise a fight between his son and Davis. After all, it is the audience that seeks this fight, and their wish is his command.

Jimmy Sweeney is bare-knuckle boxing’s most decorated fighter of all time.

The Irish cult hero has left a lasting legacy of destruction during his 33-fight (29-4) reign at the top of the sport.

A six-time four-weight world champion, Sweeney is one of the leading figures behind bare-knuckle boxing’s re-emergence from the underground over the last ten years.

Before promoters, Jim Freeman and Joe Smith-Brown, professionalised the sport in 2015 under their promotional banner BKBtm, bare-knuckle boxing was unsanctioned.

Now, it is one of the fastest-growing combat sports in the world with shows staged across the globe in prestigious venues such as the O2 Arena and Madison Square Garden.

When ‘The Celtic Warrior’ got involved in bare-knuckle ten years ago, the sport was filled with what he described as ‘brawlers’ and ‘local hard men’.

Most of the early fights resembled pub brawls but when Sweeney, a seasoned amateur pugilist, came along BKBtm’s promoters were forced to draft in higher calibre opponents just to keep up with him.

“Before me, it was a sport more or less full of brawlers and local hardmen but I’ve brought a bit of skill to it,” he told talkSPORT.com.

“If you look throughout my career I’ve been used as the guy that’s took on all the Americans, MMA fighters and pro boxers.

“Because of my style and what I’ve brought to the sport, a lot of people have taken notice because I’m not a brawler, I’m a technical fighter.

“I’ve revolutionised this game and the way it is fought. Now, it is bare-knuckle boxing with an emphasis on the boxing.”

Ex-UFC stars Cody McKenzie, Shonie Carter, Melvin Guillard and Colin Fletcher were all brought in to provide stern tests for Sweeney only to be beaten handily by the bare-knuckle icon.

Meanwhile, former boxing world title challenger Edgar Puerta and Olympian Jean Carlos Prada are also among the long list of stellar names he has bested.

In the early days, he would rarely train and loved a drink, even on the day of his fight

Recalling one of his infamous pre-fight benders, Sweeney said: “In my town [Sligo, Ireland], they had put on a boxing event, and they asked me to be a judge.

“So, I went down on the Friday and had full intentions of not drinking because I was fighting the next day in Coventry.

“But as soon as someone asked me if I wanted a drink, I said ‘Get me a bottle of Bud (Budweiser)’, before I knew it, I was drinking endless bottles of Bud judging the fight. I then ended up at a house party doing all sorts.

Sweeney’s mindset changed completely when he lost his first-ever bare-knuckle fight to Ultimate Fighter contestant Julian ‘Let Me Bang’ Lane all the way back in 2017.

Up until that point, Sweeney looked virtually invincible and had won all 18 of his bare-knuckle fights. But Lane upset the apple cart, dropping Sweeney twice en route to a majority decision victory.

After Floyd Mayweather dominated Manny Pacquiao in 2015, all three judges scored the bout in Mayweather’s favor to declare him a winner by UD. While Burt A. Clements and Glenn Feldman scored the fight 116-112, Dave Moretti scored 118-110. However, when Max Kellerman interviewed Manny Pacquiao immediately after the match, ‘PacMan’ said he thought he had won the fight. Now, almost echoing Pacquiao, an interviewer lately told Mayweather that some people thought the Pacquaio fight was “close“.

In his response, Mayweather strongly defended his laudable victory against Manny. In doing so, he bragged about being a Hall-of-Fame inductee. By the by, ‘TBE’ announced he could still demand $100 million for a fight at 47. Here is what happened.

As per the data uploaded by BoxRec, there were eight rounds when all three judges gave Floyd Mayweather a 10-9 score against Manny Pacquiao. However, all three judges felt Mayweather also lost the fourth and sixth rounds against ‘PacMan’. And ‘TBE’ largely agrees with the judges. As per ‘Money,’ he lost only two rounds against the then WBO Welterweight champion at MGM Grand, Las Vegas. Therefore, when ZOOM correspondent Rudrani Chattoraj said there were people who “nitpicked” Mayweather’s performance against Manny, the 50-0 boxer had to correct her.

They never said that with Manny. That was a blowout. That was a 10-2. You really could say 11-1. Along these lines, speaking about the naysayers, Mayweather declared he was in the Hall of Fame for a reason. “I could have been in the Hall of Fame 20 years ago. So, that’s why I’m still in the position right now at my age. I can still go out and demand $100 million,” he concluded proudly. With that said, do you agree with Mayweather on ‘TBE’ winning 10 rounds against Manny Pacquiao in 2015?

Canelo Alvarez was taken aback by the recent praise he received from his old rival Floyd Mayweather.

The pair haven’t had many nice things to say about each other over the years, but ‘TBE’ was one of the few figures in boxing that defended Canelo for choosing Jaime Munguia instead of David Benavidez as his next opponent.

While many members of the boxing fraternity slammed Canelo for ‘ducking’ Benavidez, Mayweather recently came out and stated that the Mexican superstar has ‘nothing left to prove’.

In a later interview, he even backed Canelo to become a future Hall of Famer as he heaped praise onto his former foe.

You all remember the time when during a press event for the Floyd Mayweather vs Logan Paul fight, Jake Paul stole the show. When Jake stole Floyd’s cap, Logan Paul already knew this was happening but he wasn’t expecting the over-the-top reaction from the legendary boxer. Clearly, he loudly threatened to kill Jake Paul multiple times. In fact, when the whole event happened, there were people from Mayweather’s entourage who punched Jake Paul in the head. The bad blood was palpable and Floyd had to go on Barstool Sports’ Sundae Conversation right after it happened. But for Jake Paul, life has been kind of dangerous since that happened.

Jake Paul Said He'd Struggle Watching Logan Paul Box Floyd Mayweather

During an interview on the ‘In Depth with Graham Bensinger show, Logan Paul revealed that Jake Paul still has a 24-hour security team with him when he goes to Miami. This is out of fear for the death threats he got directly from Floyd Mayweather when the incident took place. He said: “Jake has not been without a security guard since that moment. What the f*** do we know about Miami, bro? Floyd knows Miami, he’s been around the block,’ claiming ‘he got goons who kill a man for $200. He told me he was gonna do it, I didn’t think he was gonna do it. He did it, and I felt like Jake had put me in jeopardy. Then there is also the alleged lawsuit that Logan Paul has against Floyd for failing to pay him the money from that fight. After a while, Logan did mention that problem was finally sorted out. What ever that means. Currently, Jake Paul is going to do a similar event to what Logan did against Floyd but with Mike Tyson involved.
