Gervonta Davis says Devin Haney’s performance against Ryan Garcia exposed who he was as a fighter.

Haney was dropped three times with the same left hook as Garcia pulled off an upset win. This was the same Garcia that Davis had stopped last year with a seventh-round body shot. Before the Garcia fight, comparisons were drawn between Haney and Floyd Mayweather. There was the perception that Haney had taken the mantle over from Mayweather with his boxing style. However, Haney’s jab went missing in the Garcia fight. He also failed to make any adjustments.

Gervonta Davis shows off his impressive pad work during training session

“I watched the fight. I think that he [Devin Haney] overlooked the guy. He seen what I did to the guy and thought that he could do the same thing. It’s a lot of things he did wrong, and it showed that he’s not who they think he is…or who he says he is, but life shows you,” Davis said

There was the perception that Haney had underestimated Garcia. In the build-up, he referred to Garcia as a C-level fighter. Looking back, people have questioned Haney’s opposition. Garcia was the first opponent of a similar size Haney faced in his prime. Before the Garcia fight, Haney’s biggest wins were against older fighters. Even the win against Vasiliy Lomachenko was controversial, with many feeling Haney lost.

Davis has said he wants to fight Haney following his 6-7 fight deal with PBC. The deal in question is more lucrative than the deal Floyd Mayweather signed with Showtime in 2013. Davis would fancy his chances against Haney, given he could do similar damage with his left hand. He has already faced off against Haney in person, teasing a potential fight.

Tank' Davis' Coach Kenny Ellis on Haney comments: 'It's all cap'

Tank was pictured trolling Haney by posing near his truck. He then confronted Haney face to face as their entourage kept them apart. Any fight must occur at 140 once Davis clears up the 135-pound division. Even without a rehydration clause, Davis will fancy his chances based on what Garcia did.

Before Davis entertains a Haney fight, he must get past Frank Martin on June 15. Davis has his first fight since beating Garcia as he defends his WBA Lightweight Title. Should he win, he will target a fight with Vasily Lomachenko next. Tank responded to the Ukrainian’s win over George Kambosos Jr. to win the IBF Lightweight Title, saying Loma was next. With his new deal in place, Tank wants the biggest fights.

Gervonta Davis has surprisingly told his old rival Ryan Garcia that he should now retire from boxing.

Garcia achieved a career-best win on Saturday night by beating Devin Haney.

The young American floored his rival three times as he shocked the boxing world and ultimately won on points.

From the very first bell Garcia seized control, hurting Haney with a left hook in the opening round.

Haney boxed well in the next few sessions, but was stunned again in the sixth and knocked down for the first time his career in round seven.

The WBC super-lightweight world champion never truly recovered from this point on.

Garcia scored two further knockdowns in rounds 10 and 11 to seal a victory not many had predicted.

However, as he missed weight before the contest, he did not claim Haney’s belt with the win.

Regardless, the result is a huge triumph for Garcia and has set him up for massive future fights.

This was his second PPV outing, having lost his first major step-up against Gervonta Davis last year.

Davis was ecstatic with Saturday’s result, given that he had an ongoing feud with Haney and was delighted to see him lose.

However, his happiness at seeing Garcia emerge victorious has not prevented him from firing a few shots in his old foe’s direction also.

In a deleted tweet, Davis wrote: “It’s best Ryan retire now. He gonna get hurt bad.”

The likely provocation for this is the fact that Garcia and his promoter Oscar De La Hoya discussed a potential rematch with Tank at their post-fight press conference.

Ryan Garcia wins by majority decision!

Garcia has handed Haney the first defeat of his professional career in stunning fashion. He’s just won a majority decision to score the seismic upset. The judges’ scores were 114-110 and 115-109 for Garcia with the third scoring it a 112-112 draw.

Round 6

Garcia opens the sixth guns ablaze, meeting Haney in the center of the ring and reeling off no fewer than 20 uncontested punches while whipping the crowd into a frenzy. A couple of them get through Haney’s guard but he weathers the barrage well, then picks up right where he left off in the fifth, using educated pressure to score. Close round and the early spurt was enough for Garcia.

Arnold Barboza Jr has just won a highly controversial split decision over Northern Ireland’s Sean McComb. It was a bit of snoozer, with long periods of inaction drawing boos from the nearly full Barclays Center crowd. But the Belfast southpaw was clearly getting the better of the action and the result came as a surprise. One ringside judge had it 98-92 for McComb while the other two scored it 96-94 and 97-93 for Barboza. (The Guardian had it 97-93 for McComb.)

The announcement of the decision was greeted with a chorus of boos and catcalls that only grew in volume when Barboda conducted an in-ring interview before departing the arena floor. Compubox’s punch statistics reveal that Barboza landed 10-of-44 shots per round after averaging 22-of-70 in his previous seven outings.

That concludes the undercard. Haney and Garcia should be making their ring entrances in short order.

Hello and welcome to Barclays Center for tonight’s fight between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia. We’re ringside in Brooklyn for what, at least on paper, is a top-drawer matchup between two of America’s brightest young boxing stars, both 25 years old and at the front of their athletic primes. But following one of the most unusual build-ups to a major fight in recent memory, defined by Garcia’s highly erratic behavior and questions over his mental fitness, it’s left many asking whether it should even be taking place.

Devin Haney vs Ryan Garcia LIVE RESULTS: Garcia SHOCKS Haney to win after knocking down champ THREE times - updates | The Sun

Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) unified all four major titles at 135lbs with a career-best win over Vasiliy Lomachenko nearly a year ago, before climbing to 140lbs and becoming a two-weight champion with an impressive shutout of Regis Prograis to win the WBC’s version of the super lightweight title.

Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs), a social-media superstar with upwards of 10.5m Instagram followers with 7.5m more on TikTok, was supposed to be fighting for that strap tonight. But he came in an eye-popping 3.2lbs over at yesterday’s weigh-in, making him ineligible to win the title. (Should Haney lose, the belt will become vacant.)

The weight debacle was the culmination of a months-long pattern of unsettling behavior by Garcia, both in person and on social media. Since the bicoastal press tour announcing the fight where Haney claimed to smell alcohol on his rival’s breath, Garcia’s once-polished presence on social media has descended into a disturbing blur of conspiracy theories and apparent cries for help, not least an X Spaces stream with Andrew Tate (and subsequent tweetstorm) where he claimed he was kidnapped by “the elites” at Bohemian Grove, the secretive Sonoma County club for the rich, and “forced to watch kids getting raped”.

Ryan Garcia misses weight, Devin Haney fight still on - Bad Left Hook

Owing to Garcia’s volatile comportment, there were many points over the past few months where it didn’t seem like we’d ever make it to fight night. But here we are. And we the fighters should be making their ringwalks for the main event in a little more than an hour’s time.

The biggest star in boxing at the moment, Ryan Garcia has been all over the front pages of the combat world. For some reasons related to his upcoming boxing match against Devin Haney, but mostly for his unpredictable antics on his social media. However, his outbursts have made quite a lot of people burst out in laughter, including UFC superstar, Nate Diaz, and Boxing GOAT Claressa Shields.

The former UFC welterweight took to his Instagram account to post a clip of the conference on his story. The former boxing champ turned MMA fighter also shared her reaction to a post that Ryan Garcia posted on his Instagram account.

Ryan Garcia most probably had one of the most entertaining and memorable press conferences in his career. What started as a calm praise to God turned south in a matter of minutes as Garcia ended up cursing his opponent’s teammate. UFC superstar, Nate Diaz took notice of the press conference and posted a clip on his Instagram story with a laughing emoji.

Ryan Garcia would also post a clip of his rant in his Instagram account with the caption, “Don’t talk about my Mom Excuse the language  Not sorry at all just excuse the language,” as Garcia’s rant was most likely triggered by a comment made by one of Haney’s teammate about his mother. Shields commented at the post writing “omg” which came after some laughing emojis.

However, the thing that was more bizarre than the press conference and Ryan Garcia’s antics was “King” missing weight by a large margin. Here is what Garcia had to say about missing weight for the fight against Devin Haney.

Garcia addresses missing weight on Twitter

Ryan Garcia missing weight for his fight against Devin Haney came as a surprise to everyone involved in the fight, except “King Ryan” himself. The 25-year-old put out a series of tweets following his miss in weight which seemed like the 24-1 boxer knew that he was en route to missing weight. At least that is what it seemed like in one of his tweets.

After Gervonta Davis, now Abdul Wahid after converting to Islam, defeated Ryan Garcia last year, ‘Tank’ called himself the new face of boxing. On the other hand, after his WBO Super-Lightweight title defense against Dierry Jean in 2015, Terence Crawford branded himself as “the new face to boxing“. Later, ‘Bud’ Crawford became undisputed at 140 and 147 lbs. But, Oscar De La Hoya feels when it comes to “focus,” Devin Haney deserves to be called the face of boxing!

Haney is currently undefeated with 31 wins. In addition to becoming undisputed at Lightweight, he moved up to Super-Lightweight last year to win the WBC from Regis Prograis. Now, on April 20th, Haney will defend the same against Ryan Garcia. On that note, De La Hoya just praised how Haney has maintained his career in the sport.

During his latest interaction with FightHype, a reporter told Oscar De La Hoya that Bill Haney always drew a parallel between Canelo Alvarez and Devin Haney’s journey. “The way he built his career, people and kids look up to him. So, that’s what makes him the face of boxing. Would you agree with that?” She asked Oscar De La Hoya. In his reply, De La Hoya said that Haney had been in boxing forever.

Since he was a kid, right? And he was brought up by a good man. That’s what I respect about Bill. I’ve spent a lot of time with him at a home in Vegas, on the plane. And I respect that. He keeps him in line and he keeps him focused and hungry,” said De La Hoya.

At this, on being asked how hard it was for a boxer to stay focused, De La Hoya recounted personal experience.

According to Oscar De La Hoya, with critics as well as admirers, it is tough to stay focused when one has reached the elite level in the sport. For the same reason, observing the manner in which Haney has been maintaining his career, the 51-year-old said, “It’s so hard and I know that from experience. With me, they had to keep me away from the women. Because they would chase me all the way up to the mountain.

But, it’s hard to keep that focus. Especially, at this level. The elite level. So, that’s why you gotta respect it,” he added. At this, Oscar was asked if Devin Haney resembled Floyd Mayweather. To conclude, the 51-year-old announced that Haney had his own style and was on his way to writing his own story. Anyway, do you think it is the focus that makes Haney the face of boxing?

In the boxing world, eyes are on Ryan Garcia as he preps for Devin Haney. Their fight is slated for April 20th, stirring anticipation. Recently, Garcia’s behavior has sparked discussions. His social media is a mix of erratic and intriguing posts. A notable clip showed him shadowboxing in slow motion.

Derrick James, his trainer, watched, visibly annoyed by the spectacle. This wasn’t typical training footage. Yet, Claressa Shields saw potential in Garcia’s mitt-hitting session. The champion boxer shared the clip, signaling approval. Her recognition shifts the narrative, suggesting Garcia is more focused than perceived.

Ryan Garcia claims that his ’emotional clip’ was shortened to make it look different

Ryan Garcia recently addressed the misconceptions surrounding a particularly emotional clip circulating online. On his X account, he clarified the tears shed were an expression of his deep religious fervor, not mental health concerns. “Praise Jesus, those who know the Holy Spirit will make a grown man cry. You shortened the video I was worshipping God on my TikTok live with my community,” Garcia expressed, emphasizing the spiritual context misunderstood by many.

He criticized the misleading portrayal, stating, “I love God and you titled this as if I was crying due to mental instability. I find it distasteful, and disrespectful to my beliefs. Devin Haney used to idolize Floyd Mayweather Jr. He wanted to tailor his game after “The Best Ever“, going so far as to use him as a mentor. But that relationship appears to have fully deteriorated and it hit rock bottom on Friday.

Ryan Garcia had shared footage of Haney getting pummeled by Gervonta “Tank” Davis during a sparring session. Despite Garcia admitting that Haney was only 17 at the time against the older Davis, the video has already circulated everywhere on social media.

None of what Haney says would be too surprising if we delve a little bit deeper. Garcia recently spoke about Mayweather’s influence, and he seems to take what the legendary boxer says very seriously and into account.

Just a couple of days ago, Haney’s father, Bill, made a bold claim that a certain sparring session between Haney and Mayweather was a big reason why the then-40-year-old decided to walk away from boxing. Mayweather retired that same year after beating Conor McGregor.

We’re still 50 days away from Haney vs. Garcia, but it’s already been a chaotic start to the fight’s build-up.

Ahead of the bout scheduled for April 20th, at the press conference in New York, Ryan Garcia made a spectacle, bantering with Devin Haney. Besides boldly expressing that he desired to stop the WBC Super-Lightweight champion with only his “right hand“, ‘KingRy’ promised to retire professionally given he was knocked out by ‘The Dream’ in the very first round of their fight. But, the boxing world raised an eyebrow when Haney alleged that Garcia arrived drunk at their press conference.

Infuriated by Devin’s allegation, Garcia claimed he would “drink beer” and still “beat the f**k out of” Haney. At this, while the boxing community questioned Garcia’s integrity, Claressa Shields, the undisputed Middleweight champion, reacted to Garcia’s antics.

At the New York press conference, Devin Haney claimed Garcia lacked the IQ, skills, and heart required to face ‘The Dream’. In addition to that, Haney referred to Garcia’s fight with Gervonta Davis. In the 7th round of their fight, Davis hit Garcia with a powerful body shot which led ‘KingRy’ to quit. Therefore, Haney said, “We’ve seen you take a knee, and it won’t be no different. When it gets hot, you quit.” However, Garcia claimed he would beat Haney up intoxicated.

At this, reacting to Garcia’s comments, Claressa Shields wrote, “Y’all i can’t breathe! Ryan said he drink & smoke weed!!!! this is the craziest press conference I’ve ever seen!” Anyway, even though Shields found Garcia’s banter with Haney entertaining, she thought Garcia was being over the top. Likewise, in a follow-up, Shields said, “I think the trash talk is too much for Ryan Garcia.”

In this context, it is worth mentioning that Shields is not the only person who feels Garcia crossed a line. In his latest interview with Fight Hub TV, even Caleb Plant implied that ‘KingRy’ was being carried away by his emotion. However, Garcia is scarcely bothered by Plant or Shields’ comments. As a result, the 25-year-old rode a horse to the LA press conference today to startle his fans more. Anyway, what do you make of Claressa’s reaction to Garcia’s trash talk?
