Tennis legend Serena Williams is set to host the 2024 ESPYs on July 11, according to a release from ESPN.

It was noted that Williams will take on the role as host of ESPN’s annual awards show one day after the premiere of the first episode of the eight-part documentary series In the Arena: Serena Williams.

“I couldn’t be more excited to host The ESPYS,” Williams said in the release. “This is a dream come true for me, and something I’ve wanted to do for as long as I can remember. It has been a sensational year for sports and an unprecedented one for female athletes. I can’t wait to celebrate everyone on-stage in July.”

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Through nearly three decades in the public eye, Tiger Woods has remained a consummate corporate cipher, dodging troublesome inquiries with an enigmatic ease that would have impressed Louisville’s own Muhammad Ali. No one has ever said less more often, a muscle he’ll work strenuously while facing inquiries about his work on the PGA Tour’s new subcommittee tasked with talking to the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund.

On Monday, independent director Jimmy Dunne resigned from the Tour’s Policy Board and bemoaned a lack of progress in advancing the Framework Agreement with the PIF that he helped architect, the June 6 announcement of which blindsided players (including Woods) and sparked a bitter governance review during which a faction of player-directors repeatedly demanded accountability from those who worked secretly on the deal unbeknownst to the rest of the board. A day after Dunne’s departure, Woods was asked how optimistic he is about a Saudi deal being reached.

Tiger Woods responds to 'surprising' PGA Tour leadership drama

“I think we’re working on negotiations with PIF. It’s ongoing; it’s fluid; it changes day-to-day,” he said, revealing as much as a burka. “Has there been progress? Yes. But it’s an ongoing negotiation, so a lot of work ahead for all of us with this process, and so we’re making steps and it may not be giant steps, but we’re making steps.”

Unlike Rory McIlroy, who has said a deal with PIF is in the best interests of the game, Woods hasn’t detailed what resolution he’d like to see, an astute strategy in that it keeps his counterparts wondering if he wants one at all. He was a vocal critic of LIV and allied with McIlroy to reshape the Tour in an effort to prevent more players leaving, but that was before executives performed an about-face on the Saudis to rival that of Linda Blair in “The Exorcist.” Woods acknowledged that he and McIlroy are not so aligned in their thinking now.

“It’s good to see it differently, but collectively as a whole we want to see whatever’s best for all the players, the fans, and the state of golf,” he said. “How we get there, that’s to be determined, but the fact that we’re in this together and in this fight together to make golf better is what it’s all about.”

Pressed on what he wants to see happen, Woods blocked: “I’m not going to comment. Except that we’re making steps. That’s all I can say.”

Are you personally open to a deal with the Saudis?

“I’m personally involved in the process.”

Dunne called me Monday evening and described his position on the board as having become “superfluous,” describing a ghostly existence in which he wasn’t a decision-maker and wasn’t consulted by those who are — a predictable result of his role in the Framework Agreement. Woods was asked if he agreed with Dunne’s assessment.

“No,” he replied. “Jimmy and the amount of work and dedication that he put into the board and to the PGA Tour, it’s been incredible. It was a bit surprising that he resigned yesterday and just how it all came about, but, no, his role and his help, then what he’s been able to do for the PGA Tour has been great.”

It was a commendable effort at sincerity. Woods’ fellow director, Jordan Spieth, was also at pains to push back on a narrative that players now wield too much power, insisting that good governance has now been established. He used the word “balance” or a derivation thereof 11 times in his Tuesday press conference.

The first press conference ahead of the highly anticipated fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson has taken place, and fans think there is a clear winner following the face-off.

Both Paul and Tyson took part in a launch press conference on Monday ahead of their blockbuster fight on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, with tickets for the fight going for insane prices.

At the presser, Tyson sent Paul a rather chilling warning while his YouTuber opponent talked his usual talk.

“I really like Jake a lot, but once he’s in that ring, he has to fight like his life is depending on it. Because it will be.”

Gervonta Davis says Devin Haney’s performance against Ryan Garcia exposed who he was as a fighter.

Haney was dropped three times with the same left hook as Garcia pulled off an upset win. This was the same Garcia that Davis had stopped last year with a seventh-round body shot. Before the Garcia fight, comparisons were drawn between Haney and Floyd Mayweather. There was the perception that Haney had taken the mantle over from Mayweather with his boxing style. However, Haney’s jab went missing in the Garcia fight. He also failed to make any adjustments.

Gervonta Davis shows off his impressive pad work during training session

“I watched the fight. I think that he [Devin Haney] overlooked the guy. He seen what I did to the guy and thought that he could do the same thing. It’s a lot of things he did wrong, and it showed that he’s not who they think he is…or who he says he is, but life shows you,” Davis said

There was the perception that Haney had underestimated Garcia. In the build-up, he referred to Garcia as a C-level fighter. Looking back, people have questioned Haney’s opposition. Garcia was the first opponent of a similar size Haney faced in his prime. Before the Garcia fight, Haney’s biggest wins were against older fighters. Even the win against Vasiliy Lomachenko was controversial, with many feeling Haney lost.

Davis has said he wants to fight Haney following his 6-7 fight deal with PBC. The deal in question is more lucrative than the deal Floyd Mayweather signed with Showtime in 2013. Davis would fancy his chances against Haney, given he could do similar damage with his left hand. He has already faced off against Haney in person, teasing a potential fight.

Tank was pictured trolling Haney by posing near his truck. He then confronted Haney face to face as their entourage kept them apart. Any fight must occur at 140 once Davis clears up the 135-pound division. Even without a rehydration clause, Davis will fancy his chances based on what Garcia did.

Before Davis entertains a Haney fight, he must get past Frank Martin on June 15. Davis has his first fight since beating Garcia as he defends his WBA Lightweight Title. Should he win, he will target a fight with Vasily Lomachenko next. Tank responded to the Ukrainian’s win over George Kambosos Jr. to win the IBF Lightweight Title, saying Loma was next. With his new deal in place, Tank wants the biggest fights.

Oleksandr Usyk insists Tyson Fury is looking ‘skinny’ ahead of their Saudi Arabia showdown.

The Brit has always carried a bit of extra timber around his midriff but ahead of his four-belt shootout with Usyk on Saturday, he is looking very trim.

Pictures uploaded to his social media earlier this week showed Fury with abs while his father, John Fury, has claimed that his son is coming in at a career-lightest weight.

As Fury made his way to the stage at the Grand Arrivals on Tuesday, Usyk, who was watching his adversary make the walk from the balcony above, could be heard saying: “He looks skinny.”

However, ‘The Gypsy King’ claims his weight isn’t any lower than usual.

“I’m in good shape I’ve had two or three camps back to back.

Lennox Lewis has issued a word of concern for Jake Paul before the 27-year-old steps into the ring to fight Mike Tyson on July 20, despite Tyson fighting just once in 20 years.

Lewis, who was the last undisputed heavyweight champion in boxing, is regarded as one of the finest fighters ever and the best British fighter of all-time. That means he knows what he’s talking about and he called for Paul to be very weary of Tyson’s power.

Tyson’s preparing for his first professional fight since 2005 and there has been a wealth of concern about his long-term health if he sustains a series of head blows at the age of 58, but Lewis is looking at it differently as he worries for the inexperienced Paul.
