In a chat with HT City, the world boxing champ shares if he’d be open to do a Bollywood film, his secret skills in the ring and more.

Floyd Mayweather is in town. Which also means you don’t hold back the punches in a chat with him. The former world undisputed boxing champion is just as adept at striking up good conversation about his experiences, his love for all things Indian and of course, the secret to success, as he is on his two feet in the ring!
As part of a tour in India, he made a stop in Mumbai where a packed schedule saw him visit various landmarks like Gateway of India, Siddhivinayak Temple and other spots, including dropping in to designer Manish Malhotra’s store in Bandra.
The affable 47-year-old legend gets candid on his professional learnings, his diet and what he thinks of Bollywood, over a chat with HT City:

You’ve been undefeated in your boxing career. What is the one secret to your success?
FM: The secret to my success is I’m always strategising. I’m always seeking, I’m always learning. I’m confident, but at the same time I’m calculated. I am confident enough to know that I’m going to win because in my mind, I’ve already won; I’ve already conquered the challenge. It’s mental jujitsu and that’s what I ‘m doing.” He adds, “To sum that it would be knowing in my mind I’ve won, telling myself that I have already won and constantly strategising and never losing focus or sight on the prize.”

You’re said to have the ability to foresee the moves your opponent will make. How do you do that?
FM: Well, I just learn,’ I constantly learn. I’ve mastered the art of boxing. I feel that is why I’m known as TBE (the best ever) and I’m intuitive. I study my opponent very well. I don’t think I know it all, but I know enough to know which direction my opponent will be going in. And I’m quick, I’m quick on my feet, quick with my hands and it all comes through my training, the decisions I make and it comes through the amount of time I spend on constantly improving my skills.
I am a globally-recognised athlete. I did that by discipline, making the right choices and by surrounding myself with the right people and that’s how I became the best ever. Because I was able to focus on what mattered.

Before a fight, what is your diet like?
FM: Training camp is training camp. And training camp is very serious. It’s all about how many calories you put into your body a day, so my diet is very strict: it’s lean, it’s about how cutting weight and being in the best physical shape possible. Drinking a lot of water and staying hydrated and getting a lost of rest. It’s also a 12-week process and during those 12 weeks, I’m strictly focused on conquering my opponent.

Do you enjoy Bollywood movies and who’s your favourite actor?
FM: I enjoy all movies. I do think that Bollywood is bigger than Hollywood. I am very familiar with it and with some of the big names that are out here. One thing that a lot of the Bollywood names have in common with me is that they’re fit, they’re healthy, they focus on looking good, feeling great, staying in shape and they’re great brand ambassadors for Bollywood. I wouldn’t say that I have any one favourite actor because they’re so many and they’re so talented, but Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, John Abraham, Ranveer Singh – they’re all great. I’d love to be involved in some capacity with them. Would I like to act in a Bollywood film? I’m open to any opportunity that presents itself. I know if there’s any opportunity I can be successful at it because my formula and recipe is the same for everything: If I get involved in something, I stay disciplined till I win.

Francis Ngannou claims he was tricked into getting to the arena much earlier than Anthony Joshua for their heavyweight clash in Saudi Arabia earlier this month. The former UFC champion believes his arrival time was two hours before his opponent. He says it lead to him “falling asleep” in the changing rooms, before being on the wrong end of a second round knockout.

It was only his second professional boxing contest, having narrowly been beaten by Tyson Fury in 2023.
But he says he was put off by being made to get to the arena much earlier than his opponent.
“I remember being in the locker [room] trying to warm up, and it wasn’t going well,”
“I was falling asleep! I’m sweating, but I was falling asleep.
“But I’m sure that’s how some people that I have fought and have beaten have been before. No blame on anybody, the blame here is all on me.
“It’s not like I fought at 3am and he fought at like midnight or something. We both fought at 3am.
“Something that’s happened is that they get me to the arena very early. My pickup time was 10.30pm to go to the arena. And then when we get to the arena, they tell us that we are scheduled around 1.45am.
“They come to the locker room around 1 and Joshua [was just arriving]. I’m like, ‘OK, we are fighting at the same time, how come I have a pickup time?’
“We received a schedule, an email, and then for some reason I was there at least one hour before.

“They do this kind of trick to get you tired. I was like cool. I didn’t know how it was, how important that was, until the fight day that I have to get there two hours before.”
Ngannou had already announced ahead of the contest that he now plans to return to MMA to fight Renan Ferreira.
A date for the bout has yet to be confirmed, but the 37-year-old had stated he would take on the winner of Ferreira’s contest with Ryan Bader last month, which the Brazilian won by TKO in the first round.
As he prepares to return to the octagon though, Ngannou – who has stated he is not finished with boxing just yet – insists he has no regrets about how the fight with Joshua ended.
“It is the game unfortunately,” he added. “We all knew it [the knockout] could happen.
“I wasn’t seeing it happen like that, but I always knew it could happen. At least, I was always prepared for that.”

Francis Ngannou doesn’t remember much about his devastating knockout loss to Anthony Joshua.

The Cameroonian MMA star’s night got off to a disastrous start when he was decked by AJ in the opening stanza.

Ngannou did well to see out the round and make his way back to his corner after such a heavy knockdown.

However, he admits he has no recollection of getting up from his stool between rounds.

In the second round, Ngannou was downed again by a perfectly timed pull counter before he was knocked unconscious by a clubbing right hand.

The former UFC heavyweight champion lay motionless on his back for an extended period before, thankfully, coming around when he received oxygen from the on-site medical team.

Shortly after suffering the first stoppage loss of his combat sports career, Ngannou shared some footage to his YouTube channel of him recovering backstage.

Scottie Scheffler gave a knowing smile when an inevitable comparison with Tiger Woods was made in the immediate aftermath of his historic Players Championship victory at Sawgrass.

Such is the current dominance enjoyed by the man who became the first to defend the PGA Tour’s flagship title, some are starting to equate him with the 15-time major champion.

Scheffler’s mind went back to Woods’ tournament, the Genesis Invitational at Riviera, last month.

“I think that’s a funny question,” he smiled.

READ MORE ;Tiger Woods will NOT play the Players Championship next week as 15-time major winner misses the deadline to commit to the $25million tournament at TPC Sawgrass

“I’m not going to remember the exact numbers, but we were playing at ‘Riv’ this year, and I hit my tee ball and this guy yells out, ‘Congrats on being number one Scottie. Eleven more years to go. Eleven more years to go’.”

And, of course, the fan was right. Scheffler is miles away from coming close to the longevity of dominance achieved by Woods in his pomp. But right here, right now, there is an argument to mention the two players in the same breath.

“Any time you can be compared to Tiger is really special, but, I mean, the guy stands alone in our game. He really does,” Scheffler added.

“This is my eighth tournament win now out here, I’ve tied him in Players Championships. Outside of that, I have got 14 more majors and 70-some PGA Tour events to catch up.

“So I think I’m going to stick to my routine and just continue to plot along, try and stay as even-keeled as I can.”

That said, we cannot disregard the level of play that Scheffler is achieving at the moment.

Sunday’s win was his second big title in as many weeks in Florida. The last man to do that double in the Sunshine State was Woods in 2001.

And Scheffler did it in style with an imperious bogey-free final round of 64 to fend off two reigning major champions in Brian Harman and Wyndham Clark.

The Olympic gold medallist Xander Schauffele also tied for second a single shot behind. It was a welcome star-studded leaderboard and just what the beleaguered PGA Tour needed at its flagship championship to showcase its best talent.

Scottie Scheffler wins Hero World Challenge; Tiger Woods finishes 18th - SCOREGolf

For Scheffler it was the narrowest of wins, but it was champion stuff that was in keeping with the way the tall American dominates so many aspects of the game.

This season he tops the PGA Tour charts in scoring average, birdie average, strokes gained, greens in regulation and approach shots to the putting surfaces.

He does not need to putt the lights out to win. When he does – as he did at Bay Hill the week prior – he wins big. Five shots was the margin of victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

At Sawgrass he was 37th in strokes gained on the greens, which was decent. Indeed, his work with English coach Phil Kenyon and the switch to a mallet-style putter is paying off nicely.

But the rest of his game is what sets him apart. Last week he was number one in strokes gained off the tee, tee to green and in driving accuracy. He has the ball on a rope with such reliable and powerful ball striking.

Statistically he was top 10 around the green and from bunkers – not that he has to rely very often on those departments. And for greens in regulation he tied third in the putting statistics.

Scottie Scheffler is reaching a dominance not seen since Tiger Woods | The Hill

It is a formidable armoury that is allied to an exemplary mental approach. A painful and niggling neck problem that emerged in the second round of the Players only served to increase his determination to become the first to defend the title.

“That’s probably why I kept playing,” he said of the moment he received treatment five holes into his round on Friday. He still felt he could win and he did not want to spurn the opportunity.

Nevertheless, he needed to make up five shots in the final round, a feat only previously achieved twice at Sawgrass – by Justin Leonard and Henrik Stenson – in Players history.

This is where his unflappable temperament came to the fore. Scheffler is blessed with a real sense of perspective allied to a fierce competitive spirit.

He does not get carried away, which is why his rivals should continue to fear him as the golf year heads towards major season starting with the Masters in April.

“I try not to place too much emphasis on results, good or bad,” he said, refusing to look further than his next PGA Tour stop in Texas later this month.

Tiger Woods Scottie Scheffler comparison is closer than you think - SBNation.com

“I think you can take some positives in the momentum, but I’m going to go home, get some rest and continue my prep work for Houston.”

This is someone who used to wear the same brand of clothing as Woods out of fandom. He has long since been paid handsomely to do that.

And he is starting to match the 82-time PGA Tour winner in the way he sits at the top of the world rankings.

Admittedly they are somewhat compromised by the absence of points being awarded to LIV events, but the gap between Scheffler and number two Rory McIlroy [4.4 points average] is greater than the margin between the Northern Irishman and Collin Morikawa, who is 18th in the standings.

It is a commanding position. Then again, Woods’ lead over Phil Mickelson was once greater than that between the world number two and anyone else in the standings.

World No.1 Scottie Scheffler May Never Attain a Nearly Impossible Tiger Woods Feat in This Lifetime - EssentiallySports

So let us not get too carried away. As Scheffler said: “Yeah, we all idolise Tiger. He’s been our guy. Watching what he did in special moments over the years is crazy to watch.”

What we can say, though, is that Scheffler’s Sawgrass exploits over the past two editions, and his current overall statistics, are also of the rarest quality.

What does Novak Djokovic’s Miami Open withdrawal mean for the world No. 1 battle with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner? When could Djokovic lose the No. 1 ranking? Djokovic has pulled out of the Miami Open saying he needs to balance his “private and professional schedule”. He has been world No. 1 since September 2023, but how long will this run last?

Novak Djokovic’s return to Indian Wells and the Miami Open was supposed to be a chance for him to bulk up his lead as world No. 1 over Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
With no points to defend, having not played either event since 2019, Djokovic had the chance to pull away at the top of the rankings.

READ MORE ;Why Novak Djokovic’s Miami Open move makes sense as he shifts focus to two key goals

Instead he could start the clay season with the world No. 1 ranking up for grabs.
Djokovic’s shock third-round exit at Indian Wells to Luca Nardi saw him gain just 50 points, while Alcaraz defended his title and Sinner made the semis for the second year in a row.
He has since pulled out of the Miami Open, saying he needs to balance his “private and professional schedule”.
So how much can Alcaraz and Sinner gain on Djokovic across the next fortnight? And when they could replace him as world No. 1?
Wimbledon 2023: Novak Djokovic meets Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz faces Daniil Medvedev - BBC Sport

DJOKOVIC STILL IN STRONG POSITION – FOR NOW

Even though he will start April with just one match win since the Australian Open, Djokovic will still be world No. 1.
He is guaranteed to stay atop the rankings for three more weeks, which would see his total time spent as No. 1 reach 420 weeks.
Djokovic leads the rankings on 9,725 points, 920 points ahead of Alcaraz and 1,415 ahead of Sinner. Daniil Medvedev is in fourth place on 7,765 points.
Alcaraz can add a maximum of 640 points to his total if he wins the Miami Open, while last year’s runner-up Sinner could add 400 if he lifts the title.
If Alcaraz wins Miami and beats Sinner in the final then the rankings ahead of the clay season could be:

The real fun looks set to start in the clay season.
If Alcaraz does win the title in Miami then the No. 1 ranking will be on the line in Monte Carlo, which is a Masters 1000 and the first big event of the European clay swing in April.
Alcaraz and Djokovic both missed the tournament last year so will have the same amount of points to gain.
Sinner made the semi-finals in Monte Carlo last year so isn’t able to make as big a gain as Alcaraz or Djokovic.
However, across the entire clay season Sinner does not have many points to defend.
Djokovic will defend 2,315 points over the clay swing, most of which will be at the French Open where he is the defending champion, and Alcaraz has 2,265 points to defend.
Sinner will only defend 585 points to defend on clay, which gives him the chance to make up ground.
CAN SINNER GET TO NO. 2 IN MIAMI?
The live rankings ahead of the Indian Wells semi-finals had Sinner moving up to world No. 2 for the first time.
But Alcaraz battled back from a set down to reach the final and swing things in his favour.
If Sinner had reached the final he would have got to world No. 2 and had at least a 350-point lead over Alcaraz heading to Miami.
Now Alcaraz has a 495-point advantage and also has fewer points (360 v 600) than Sinner to defend in Miami.

Sinner will looking to recover properly for Miami after appearing to hurt himself taking a fall in his semi-final against Alcaraz.
“At the moment, I feel a little bit everything on my body. But it’s normal. It’s sport. You know, you have to accept this,” he said afterwards.
“I had some problems, just small problems, but it was okay throughout until the third set. Then when I fell, I felt a little bit the elbow because I fell over the elbow and I rolled over. So was for me after tough to serve.
“Hopefully we will see in the next days if physically I will be good for Miami, which is for me personally the most important.”

Simone Biles‘ 27th birthday celebration went without any fancy colors or glittery hues, as the gymnast shared previously. In the celebration, her loving mood toward her husband, Jonathan Owens, came out to be prominent. Furthermore, the couple’s furry babies, Rambo, Lilo, and Zeus, made the perfect attendees of the simple celebration that night in their Texan abode. However, the most decorated gymnast savored the familiar company entirely after including a few more loving faces from her inner circle in extending the celebration.

Among those faces, the baby Biles made an aspiring attendance at all the love she usually brings. After noticing her niece at the birthday celebration, the ingenue aunt was on cloud nine. Eventually, the aunt, Simone Biles, made her IG fans witness baby Biles’s presence at the simple party.

On March 18, Simone Biles shared an IG story, divulging more about her birthday celebration. But keeping everyone in awe, baby Biles aka Ronni Biles appeared on that celebration spree. The story showed the year-old niece, with a curious gaze towards her aunt, taking her time to taste a snack bar. The pacified aunt could only give out at the moment with an exchange of love. So, the story’s caption remained that way: “cutie girl[emoji]”. Incidentally, Simone Biles’s brother Ron Biles II was also present in the visual. But for little Ronni Biles, Aunt Simone holds a special place. In previous places as well, the gymnast shared certain spectacles.

Since her birth on November 25, 2022, Ronni Biles has claimed the loving lap of her aunt. Moreover, in narrating her first meeting with the youngest member of the Biles family, Simone penned, “My precious little niece made her debut friday. I’m so proud to be your TT & I’m excited to spoil you!” Since then, the bond strengthened between the Biles with a mixture of love and affection. However, the birthday bash went succulent for Simone Biles as well after the gathering of such homebodies. Moreover, a few more special ones came to the fore to make the birthday occasion more than a special one.

In exemplifying the merriment, she once wrote “Also I just love the city of Chicago” on X. Moreover, she also expressed her ethereal love towards the Chicago cuisines. Therefore, Chicago could not stop reciprocating her emotions.
