Relive coverage of Anthony Joshua’s explosive second-round victory over the former UFC world champion Francis Ngannou

Anthony Joshua propelled himself back into the heavyweight world title picture with a destructive second-round knockout win over Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia.

Joshua, the two-time former unified world heavyweight champion, sent Ngannou to the canvas in the opening round of their fight and then felled him a further two times in an emphatic second round.

Ngannou, the former UFC heavyweight champion of the world, appeared to be out before he even hit the canvas and required medical treatment before leaving the ring.

The heavyweight contest was just the second professional boxing match of Ngannou’s career, although the Cameroonian impressed in a split decision loss to WBC champion Tyson Fury in Riyadh last October.

Promoter Eddie Hearn afterwards called for Joshua to face the winner of Fury’s upcoming unification showdown with Oleksandr Usyk, who has twice before defeated Joshua.

Fury and Usyk will fight to become the undisputed heavyweight world champion in May, with a rematch agreed to take place later this year.

Kila H: “Great win, but it’s pretty hilarious to see his manager say there’s no one in the world that can beat him and then in the next sentence show his record has 3 losses on it. Putting down Ngannou that early is no joke though, he’s got a serious chin on him. Now lets see them run it back in MMA.”

Isaac L: “That’s a perfect night for Joshua. A big knockout, embarrassing Fury and propelling himself back into the world title picture.”

Ngannou has switched back to an orthodox stance. His switch to southpaw wasn’t successful in the slightest. But it hasn’t done him much good — Joshua lands another right hand, which connects with Ngannou’s chin. The former UFC champion is once again in trouble.

There is no doubt that Charlie Woods was born into a life filled with privilege. But there are two sides to being Tiger Woods’s son. While the superficial glory that is readily available to the naked eye is on one side of the coin, the other is nowhere near as glorious. From facing the wrath of being constantly compared to the greatness of his father to facing numerous security threats and getting the smallest of his mistakes overly critiqued, not everything comes easy for this budding golfer.

Surely, then, growing up in the shadow of his father does not seem as easy as the widespread assumption. Call it destiny or a coincidence, but the same happened at the AJGA’s Will Lowery Junior Championship this week, where he received a sponsor’s invite.

At just the age of 15, the news of Junior Woods’s performance already invites massive crowds to the greens, wherever he is spotted teeing up. What was tipped off at the pre-qualifier of the Cognizant Classic now seems to have turned into a vicious trend cycle from what is being witnessed at the AJGA’s ongoing event. So much so that the young star’s safety has become a growing concern.

Yes, you read that right. This is the main reason why Woods Jr. has been forced to arrange for a host of security personnel and armed police in case of any unexpected mishaps from overenthusiastic fans. In fact, it has also been reported that there are increased security measures in place in light of his first official appearance at the AJGA event, including stringent identity verification processes.

At the Cognizant Classic’s pre-qualifier, the young talent’s performance was impeded because of the unruly behavior exhibited by the fans. The crowd surrounded and pressurized the young golfer in more ways than one. Some fans were even seen walking alongside him, thereby distracting him in attempts to catch Charlie’s glimpse.

But who is the culprit for the same? Well, it’s probably the fame he has gotten from his 82-time PGA Tour winner father. Junior Woods is living a reality that would be a completely strange occurrence for any other amateur of a similar stature as him. So has it influenced his performance in some way?

All About Tiger Woods' Son Charlie Axel Woods

Is Tiger Woods’s shadow casting a dark cloud over Charley Woods’s career?

The answer to this might invite different opinions, but in some ways, that is certainly the case. Unlike most of the other golfers, who could remain at peace and perform at the event, the heavy weight of expectations and the concerningly high level of scrutiny certainly played a key role in an unfortunate result on his part.

A similar saga seems to be forming at the Carolina Trace Country Club-Creek Course in Sanford. Junior Woods’s performance can be best described as inconsistent so far, and the public scrutiny pool is certainly not impressed.

He finished with a score of 21 over par and tied for 33rd on the leaderboard, making it a less-than-appreciable performance. His first round saw him card a 78, whereas he concluded his second round with a score of 81, and a third round of 78 quashed the expectations of many fans of the Woods family who were vastly interested. Has TW been helping his son in coping with the struggles that he continues to face on the greens?

Despite the fact that it is inadvertently the shadow of his father that has opened the window to the challenges being faced by Charlie, it is his father’s golden advice and constant support that makes it easier for him to cope with the challenges.

Novak Djokovic is currently enjoying his time off the court. A few days ago, he attended the Le Club Lacoste Miami Open Launch Party at the Soho Beach House in Miami, Florida, along with his ATP peers. And, now he was seen enjoying a bright sunny day at the beach with his wife Jelena Djokovic.

Novak Djokovic and Jelena first met each other while attending and playing tennis in high school. They went on to date for almost 8 years, before eventually tying the knot in 2014 (just a few days after Djokovic won his second Wimbledon Championship) in Sveti Stefan, a small coastal town in Montenegro. In this instance, Jelena took to Instagram to post a picture with her husband at the seashore of Miami and captioned the picture with a ‘heart’ emoji.

The 2023 season was one of the best seasons of Novak Djokovic’s career. After its end, Djokovic penned down a heartfelt note to his wife saying, “What an amazing season this has been. Forever grateful to my wife for being the best mother I could ask for to kids, while I was making history of the sport. Her support and love that I have been feeling from my family made this historic season possible.

In 2021, during an interview, Jelena revealed that despite being a “great professional” Djokovic is also a  “wonderful father.” Notably, he was recently seen taking some time off his busy schedule to express his love and affection for his wife by sending her kisses during the 2024 Indian Wells Masters campaign. Having said that, Djokovic also acknowledges how it can be a challenging affair to be with him.

During an on-court interview, Novak Djokovic revealed that being in a relationship with him can be very challenging. He referred to himself as a wolf and stated,“It can be very stressful to run with the wolf. I know that she doesn’t enjoy it at all times. It’s kind of living on the edge with the wolf.” He believes he “carries” the traits of a wolf within himself, saying that the dynamic energy can sometimes turn into a roar or outburst.

Meanwhile, getting a lot of public attention and being in the limelight all the time is pretty challenging for Jelena Djokovic. During an interview with ‘Hello Magazine,’ she stated that their relationship was like ‘science fiction’. “Us getting together was like science fiction almost. I was a student barely getting by, and he was a very young tennis player who also had no money to spare on expensive trips.” She also revealed that their relationship would have been impossible if she hadn’t left her job.

Terence Crawford is ready to mix things up and is on the move again. The American is leveraging his ‘Super Champion’ status to book a fight with the winner of Tim Tszyu vs. Sebastian Fundora next. But is it a right call when the likes of Jaron Ennis are waiting in the ranks? Is it a desperate decision to bag the legacy with Canelo Alvarez? It seems there is more to the star boxer’s move, and he might be better off making the switch.

‘Bud’ is now Tszyu’s mandatory for the latter’s WBO strap. After cleaning up two divisions, he is eyeing a sweep of a third one. However, such a move was not on the cards until this year. He was waiting on Errol Spence Jr. to trigger a rematch and have the payday of his career. But that didn’t happen. Suddenly, Crawford was left with one option at 147: fighting Jaron Ennis. Is this how the 36-year-old envisioned closing off his stay at 147? It doesn’t seem so.

As soon as Crawford held all four marbles at 147, he knew his tenure as undisputed champion would be short-lived. Soon, the IBF would snatch its belt and bestow upon Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis. With Spence Jr. out of the frame, why would you expect Crawford to fight back for the title that was taken away from him too fast? Moreover, it’s not about the gold anymore; it’s about the money bags.

Ennis, 26, has a thin resume. You could argue the current IBF champion hasn’t fought any of the big names or importance. While he boasts an impressive undefeated record, his fights have gone under the radar. His record of 31-0 with 28 KOs is an eye-popping stats, but if you dig deep, no name attracts eyeballs. You can debate whether he has done enough to bag a fight with Crawford. Ennis is a remarkable fighter, but he is not a draw yet.

What’s more? The Philadelphia native has the power, talent, speed, and reach to unleash punishment on Crawford. Whether he can do that is a debate for another day. So, it doesn’t make sense for Crawford to fight for a belt with less money and more chances of sustaining damage. With the illustrious career he had, he deserves to fight for money. That assumes more importance when the 40-0 record is already charting his retirement and he is looking to solidify his legacy.

Moreover, the Omaha native also craves a huge payday and can retire comfortably. Social media sensation Paul has never been dropped in 10 professional fights and he challenged boxing legend Tyson to try and put him down in their July fight

Jake Paul has challenged Mike Tyson to try and break his ‘iron chin’ in their boxing fight.

YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul has divided opinion since ditching his internet fame for a career in the ring and he will face 57-year-old boxing legend Tyson in his next fight. There will be over a 30-year age difference come the fight, which takes place at the 80,000 seat AT&T Stadium in Texas on July 20.

“I want to see how hard he hits. Mike, I really want to see, bro. Let’s see all the legends, the myths, because you’re Iron Mike Tyson, but I have an iron chin, people know that. I take shots. I think people are underestimating me being able to deal with his power, and that’s something that’s going to make it interesting,” Paul said on his BS podcast.

“I am biting off a lot. This is definitely the toughest, most savage, lethal opponent regardless of age, because the power is the last thing to go. The reaction and reception of it is insane. I almost can’t even believe it, so very surreal and very, very grateful for all of that. We’re going to see. I’m excited. I literally can’t wait to look across the ring and see him and give him a f****** death stare.”

Fine details for the fight, such as the amount of rounds and contracted weight, are yet to be revealed. The fight will air live on Netflix and Paul thinks it won’t be the streaming giant’s only venture into combat sports.

“I did the face-off, and then I walked away and I just laughed to myself. I was like, ‘Ha! This is insane.’ On my screen, my eyeballs are the ones facing off against Mike Tyson, and I just couldn’t believe it. The fact that it’s on Netflix, I think that’s going to really revolutionise the game in boxing. I think streaming could eventually be a very bright future for the sport,” he added.

Jake Paul’s bold comments on boxing have stirred the pot again. This time, it’s about Ryan Garcia’s defeat. Garcia, floored by Gervonta Davis with a body shot, couldn’t rise on 20th April 2023. The moment was intense, and pivotal in the bout’s outcome. Meanwhile, Paul gears up for an unexpected ring return on 20th July.

His opponent? Boxing legend Mike Tyson. Yes, Tyson, 30 years older than Paul, is stepping back into the fray. Could Paul’s critique of Garcia come back to haunt him? Fans definitely are making him regret that.

When asked about his pick for the fight, Paul declared, “Devin. He’s gonna smoke him.”

He elaborated, criticizing Garcia’s dedication and heart. “One person who’s been in the gym taking the sport seriously, Ryan, isn’t taking it seriously,” he argued, “and he showed me his lack of heart by not getting up off the canvas when he basically quit.” The conversation didn’t end there. Touching upon a potential future matchup with Ryan Garcia, Paul expressed, “As like an exhibition, probably. I would love to just like deflate his little 130 pounds.” This candid exchange set the stage for the uproar to follow, as Paul’s stark assessments ignited a firestorm of reactions

Firstly, one fan expressed disdain, highlighting the irony in Paul’s critique, “Jake has no room to talk about lack of heart shown in a fight while he’s about to fight a 60-year-old man 😤.” Next, another fan reminded everyone of Paul’s own ring challenges, “Dude, you lost to Love Island Tommy Fury.” This comment cut to the core of Paul’s credibility, questioning his standing to critique others after his own defeats.

This fan added a touch of humor to the critique, “If dude got hit with that same body shot he’d probably be in the hospital straight up😂.”

He said: “Listen, I think we both fight at 3am. It’s not like I fought at 3 a.m. and he fought at like midnight or something. We both fought at 3am. And then when we get to the arena, they tell us that we are scheduled around 1.45am. right? They come to the locker around 1 and Joshua [was just arriving around 1]. I’m like, ‘OK, we are fighting at the same time, how come I have a pickup time?’ We received a schedule, an email, and then for some reason I was there at least one hour before. But for the fight, at least two hours beforehand. They do this kind of trick to get you tired. I was like cool, I was like, ‘Bro, it’s OK.’ I didn’t know how it was, how important that was, until the fight day that I have to get there two hours before.”

Anthony Joshua did not respond to these accusations, nor do we think he ever will respond because that is how the game is played. Fighters who know this sport will all tell you that they need to be prepared for anything. Ngannou wasn’t prepared for getting his time wasted and that played a significant role in his defeat. Novak Djokovic is enjoying “a little bit of an off-season” as he is using the “smaller” events to prepare for the French Open, Wimbledon and the Olympics, according to tennis great Mats Wilander.

The 2024 season has been a curious one so far for Djokovic as his Australian Open title defence came to an end in the semi-final as he was beaten in four sets by eventual champion Jannik Sinner.

The 24-time Grand Slam winner then opted to skip the Qatar Open before finally making his return at the Indian Wells Open at the beginning of March, but he was then stunned in the third round by the unheralded Luca Nardi, who was ranked No 123 at the time.

But while the lack of titles and match practice could be problematic for other players, former world No 1 Wilander says there is no reason to be concerned if you a Djokovic fan as it is all part of a bigger plan for the Serbian with his focus on the Grand Slams and 2024 Paris Olympics.

“Novak Djokovic doesn’t really care when he loses in the smaller tournaments,” the seven-time Grand Slam winner told Eurosport.

“I mean, he would like to win every tournament, he’d like to win every match. But I do think that sometimes these days he goes on a trip just to test himself.

“‘How good has my practice been back home?’ or wherever he’s been practicing, and then he gets to a tournament and he’s playing the other pros, the best players in the world, and he realises after he wins a round or two or three or whatever the result is, I think he realises, ‘oh okay, I’m close enough, I don’t need to be any better at this particular moment’.

“But right now, in terms of competition, it is a little bit of an off-season. It would be great to win the Sunshine Double again for Novak Djokovic, but he’s not even playing in Miami.

“So basically, it’s a [case of] getting a couple of matches, understand that he’s very close, ‘I’m going to go home, I’m going to practice again and then I’ll be ready for the next match’.

The 48-year-old golfer injured himself last year during the third round of the 2023 Masters stating he had plantar fasciitis. He had surgery performed on his ankle shortly after pulling out of the tournament. He was able to come back from the surgery and played at the Hero World Challenge and PNC Championship last fall. He did make his first tour start since the surgery last month when he was active for The Genesis Invitational. He opened with a 1-over 72 but withdrew from the tournament on the seventh hole of the second round. The 2023 Masters was the only PGA tournament he played in last year after competing in the Masters, PGA Championship, and Open Championship the previous year in 2022, according to the Bleacher Report.

Tiger hasn’t made a tour start since The Genesis Invitational but there is speculation he will be playing at the Augusta National since his name is on the Masters Tournament list, although he has not confirmed his participation.

Inside Tiger Woods' blueprint for a massive 2024

Last month, it was announced that Tiger, along with other PGA Tour players are set to become equity holders in PGA Tour Enterprises, a newly established for-profit company, after a $3 billion investment from the Strategic Sports Group, according to MSN. The deal marks a significant moment in sports history now that the players will now own a share of the PGA Tour, a concept unprecedented in professional sports.

Tiger has played in 25 Masters, winning five of them (1997, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2019) – and is one win away from matching Jack Nicklaus’ record of six green jackets (the green jacket goes to the winner of the tournament). He is also tied with Fred Couples and Gary Player for making the cut in 23 consecutive starts at the Augusta National.
