Demetrious Johnson stands by his Francis Ngannou take.

In March, Ngannou was brutally knocked out by Anthony Joshua in their heavyweight boxing match billed as “Knockout Chaos.” The fight was so uncompetitive that just a few days later, Johnson claimed Joshua would beat Ngannou in an MMA fight.

As you can imagine, “Mighty Mouse” caught a lot or crap for that take, but one month later, he stands by it.

“It’s not like Francis is some world-class kickboxer,” Johnson said recently on The MMA Hour. “You look at all Francis fights, he does have some submission wins, he does have some where he takes somebody down.

“But if I can take a guy like Anthony Joshua, who is an athletic specimen, who understands range and distance, and I train him for six months — six months — to defend a takedown, check the leg kick, and just box. You’re not going to have 16-ounce gloves. The distance doesn’t change at all. … So if I can take somebody who is athletic, which, Anthony Joshua is athletic, it’s an easy fight.”

Francis Ngannou fight an option for Anthony Joshua, says Eddie Hearn - BBC Sport

Johnson — the former UFC flyweight champion and one of the greatest fighters of all-time — argues the issue for Ngannou is one of styles. If Joshua was to fight a different heavyweight in MMA, things would not go as smoothly.

“Now, here’s the flip side: How would it go against Anthony Joshua vs. Jon Jones? Different animal,” Johnson said. “Jon Jones would go out there and force the clinch. He would go out there and force the wrestling exchange. Maybe Francis Ngannou would do that, but I don’t think Francis would do that. From the years I’ve seen him fight, that’s how I view that fight. I’m not saying Francis is going to get destroyed, but I do believe [Joshua] has a chance of beating him, because he just knocked him the f*ck out in a boxing match!”

“Francis has been very successful in the boxing world in MMA,” Johnson continued. “He boxes people. When he beat Stipe Miocic, yes he threw some leg kicks. That’s very easy to manage. It’s not like an Edson Barboza leg kick. But him and Stipe were going back and forth. Stipe actually rocked him.

For celebrities and sports stars, life in the spotlight often means that their personal lives become the subject of public discourse. Simone Biles, the indomitable seven-time-medal-winning Olympian, has become the focus of chatter; not for her skill on the gymnastics mat, but for her marriage. Following her recent victory at the 2024 Core Hydration Classic, Biles took a moment to address the ongoing scrutiny surrounding her marriage to husband, Jonathan Owens

After years of medal after medal news, the spotlight shifted from her gravity-defying flips to her personal life, and she wasn’t about to let it slide. Simone Biles’ marriage has captivated fans and media alike, but she has made it clear that her relationship is not up for public debate.

With grace and poise, Biles emphasized the importance of boundaries and the strength she draws from her support system, showcasing that her resilience is as unwavering in her personal life as it is in her athletic career. Her candid response serves as a powerful reminder that behind every superstar is a human being deserving of respect and privacy.

The controversy began with a seemingly innocuous “The Pivot” podcast episode where Jonathan Owens, Biles’ husband and safety for the Chicago Bears, mentioned that he didn’t know who Biles was when they first met on a dating app in 2020. Owens humorously claimed he was the catch” in the relationship. His words sparked a social media frenzy, with debates raging on whether his comments were harmless or subtly dismissive.

As Biles continued to dominate the gymnastics world, most recently taking home the all-around gold medal at the U.S. Classic, the online negativity towards her marriage persisted. Critics latched onto Owens’ comments, using them as fodder for disrespect toward the couple’s relationship.

Biles, known for her poise and resilience, addressed the disrespectful comments head-on. In a fiery Instagram story, she defended her marriage and her husband, stating, I’m going to quickly address this. The joke was never a joke! Y’all are blatantly disrespectful to my relationship and my husband.

Oleksandr Usyk has ignited talks to keep his IBF heavyweight world title after beating Tyson Fury.

The Ukrainian became the first undisputed champion since Lennox Lewis achieved the feat in 1999, picking up a huge points win in Saudi Arabia last weekend to hand the ‘Gypsy King’ his first career defeat.

But it was revealed that Usyk would likely be relieved of the belt by the IBF for his immediate contracted rematch against Fury, due to the fact Filip Hrgovic is an overdue mandatory challenger who first earned his position in 2022.

Hrgovic is set to face Daniel Dubois on June 1 and the hope was for the vacant IBF world title to be on the line.

Anthony Joshua was plotting his own route to the IBF, with a fight touted at Wembley Stadium against the winner of Hrgovic vs Dubois in September.

But Hrgovic, Dubois and AJ’s title hopes could still be a dealt a huge blow, after it was confirmed Usyk has applied for an ‘exception’ to try and keep hold of his IBF crown after beating Fury.

Usyk’s team have filed an official request and it will now be considered by the organisation according to IBF president Daryl Peoples.

Should the exception be granted, ‘The Cat’ could make a defence of his undisputed titles against Fury, who could still cement his name in the history books with a revenge win.

It would be at that point, after the sequel, that Usyk would then be forced to fight the IBF mandatory challenger if an exception is indeed granted.

Hrgovic’s showdown with Dubois on the upcoming 5 vs 5 card between Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren, would then effectively form an eliminator for a shot at the undisputed titles with an IBF ‘interim’ belt potentially on the line.

Joshua will wait to see what happens, but he could indeed pursue a non-title fight with Fury in 2025, if Usyk beats the ‘Gypsy King’ for a second time.

Fury’s promoter Bob Arum has insisted the all-British showdown remains on the table, but it will depend on the routes available.

Gervonta Davis is one of the hottest properties in boxing today, with no shortage of potential opponents lining up for a mega payday – but the Baltimore native has named a surprise choice as his most difficult possible fight.

‘Tank’s is arguably the biggest name in the sport, with his stardom taken to the next level after his stoppage win against Ryan Garcia last year – a victory that looks even more impressive after Garcia’s performance against Devin Haney, although that is now shrouded in a doping controversy.

Davis has been out of action since that night over a year ago due to legal issues, but is making his return next month against Frank Martin.

In the build up to the fight, the 29-year-old was asked by Boxing News who he’s looking to face before he hangs up the gloves:

When asked who would give him his toughest test, Davis, without hesitation, named the long time retired great, Floyd Mayweather.

The two have history. Davis was guided through his early career by ‘Money’ Mayweather and his promotional company, splitting with them in 2022 on seemingly good terms:

There’s no denying that the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight is big, but is it a hundred million pay-per-view big? ‘The Problem Child,’ in an interview with TMZ Sports, anticipates a full house at the AT&T Stadium and a massive viewership tuning in from home for his clash with the soon-to-be 58-year-old ‘Iron’ Mike. Yet, scanning through social media, fans seem to harbor doubts about its grandiosity.

The former undisputed heavyweight champion is poised to re-enter the professional boxing arena after a staggering 19-year hiatus. His last foray into the ring was in 2020 against Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition match, which raked in over 1.6 million pay-per-view buys and generated revenue exceeding $80 million. Despite boxing’s purported downturn, Paul remains steadfast in his belief that his upcoming bout with Tyson will shatter all previous records.

with Mike Tyson. As the reporter probed Paul about his thoughts on how many people he thinks would watch or attend the fight, Paul, confident about putting on one of the biggest fights of the year, didn’t hesitate to project huge numbers for the fight.

As many that could fit in the stadium, I think it’s like 90K or 93K; I think it’s going to be packed to the brim and the global viewership could be in the hundreds of millions,” Paul told the reporter. It’s worth mentioning that the stadium’s maximum capacity is somewhere in the neighborhood of 80,000 seats or up to 105,000 with standing room. Also, according to sources, Netflix, as of the first quarter of 2024, has a paid subscriber base of 269.6 million.

So, Paul’s projection could come true, yet when the reporter highlighted that such numbers often come from the Super Bowl, Paul agreed, saying, “It’s wild. It doesn’t make any sense. But the fact that Netflix is a part of this, the perfect piece of the puzzle, makes it this perfect trifecta of Netflix’s audience, my audience and Mike Tyson’s audience.”

While Paul might seem sure enough about the success of his fight, fans seem to have other ideas.

Fan reveals his illegal plan for the Mike Tyson fight

Anthony Joshua Makes Mike Tyson-Jake Paul Prediction: "It's Good For Boxing" - Seconds OutDespite Paul’s popularity and the scale of the fight, fans don’t seem to be onboard with Paul’s plans for millions. One user blatantly called the YouTuber-boxer “delusional,” implying Paul has unrealistic expectations from the fight. While Tyson is a big name, achieving a hundred million PPV seems impossible even for him. One of the biggest PPV events Tyson was part of was the second fight against Evander Holyfield, where ‘Iron’ Mike bit off Holyfield’s ear.

One of the most highly anticipated fights in recent years is on the horizon. With less than two months to go until the July 20th bout between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, the fighters continue to build the hype.

In a recent interview for TMZ SPORTS, Paul admitted that this is the toughest challenge of his career and that he will need to manage his nerves in front of tens of thousands of live spectators, with an estimated 100 million expected to watch on Netflix. That seems like a high number for Netflix, but we will see what the actual figures say after the fight.

Paul commented on Tyson, saying, “Mike Tyson’s power, his experience, his tenacity, the veteran tricks he’s going to pull out-this is my ultimate test of warfare, and that excites me.” He also added that if he gets the chance to knock out Tyson, he wouldn’t hesitate for a second, stating, “Because if he has the opportunity to do

the same, you know damn well he is going to finish me in embarrassing fashion.” Indeed, Tyson would knock him out at any chance he got. As Paul said, “He’s a killer, he’s ruthless, he’s the most vicious champion ever.”
Despite the 30-year age gap, which is significant for a professional boxing match, the show and hard punches will undoubtedly be there. It’s been 37 years since “Iron Mike” became the youngest boxer ever to win a heavyweight title. When that happened, his opponent wasn’t even in plans of being born yet. Tyson, who won his first 19 professional fights by knockout, 12 of them in the first round, is certainly far from that level now.

On the other hand, Jake Paul, whose professional boxing debut was against AnEsonGib in January 2020, is in his physical and athletic prime but lacks the experience to face an opponent of Tyson’s caliber. Being nearly 30 years younger than his rival would seem advantageous in any other sport-perhaps not in golf-but in a high-performance physical sport, the explosion, reflexes, strength, and endurance are significant advantages for Paul.

We’ll see what happens at AT&T Stadium. Whether someone gets knocked out or it goes to a decision, it will undoubtedly be unprecedented and full of surprises.

Top Rank CEO Bob Arum says an immediate rematch between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk is likely to take place in November or December; Arum also welcomed a clash between Fury and Anthony Joshua at Wembley Stadium

Top Rank CEO Bob Arum believes Tyson Fury did enough to beat Oleksandr Usyk in the pair’s historic undisputed world title clash and is eyeing an immediate rematch before the end of the year.

Usyk became the first undisputed heavyweight champion of the four-belt era in Saudi Arabia earlier this month when he beat Fury via split decision after coming close to stopping the Gypsy King in a thrilling ninth round.

“Yeah, the way I looked at it and I was sitting with Frank (Warren) and after the 10th round, I told him that Tyson has to win one of the next two rounds to win the fight,” Arum told Sky Sports. “He didn’t win the 11th but he clearly won the 12th round.

“I had the first round for Usyk, then the next six rounds for Tyson. The rest for Usyk except for the last round, which I gave to Fury. I had seven rounds to five, I had Tyson winning by one point, as did one of the judges.”

Will the PGA Tour and PIF merger ever become a reality? In the past week, two independent directors have resigned from the PGA Tour policy board. Four days ago, the architect of the PGA Tour and PIF negotiation, Jimmy Dunes left the policy board as his idea probably didn’t align with what Commissioner Jay Monahan and Vice Chairman, Tiger Woods proposed.

Dunes cited the stagnant growth in the PIF-PGA Tour merger and the majority of players on directors being on board as the reason for his resignation. He said, “Since the players now outnumber the independent directors on the board and no meaningful progress has been made towards a transaction with the PIF I feel like my vote and my role is utterly superfluous.”

But he was appreciative of the 4 and a half years spent as an independent director and showed gratitude towards Jay Monahan for his leadership, The news of Flaherty leaving the PGA Tour policy board was shared on X by NBC writer, Rex Hoggard. Flaherty said in the letter as NBC reported, “It’s been an honor and a privilege to serve on the policy board for the past 4 ½ years. Golf has always been a significant part of my life. Tiger Woods says the negotiation with PIF is ‘fluid’

On Tuesday of the PGA Championship, Tiger Woods addressed the reporters and gave an insight into what’s going on behind the closed curtains between PGA Tour and PIF. Unlike Jimmy Dunes’ statement that there has been no progress in the merger, Woods explained, “It’s ongoing, it’s fluid. It changes day-to-day.”
