Alycia Baumgardner and Claressa Shields are back at it again.

The latest entry in their back-and-forth outside-the-ring rivalry: Last Saturday, during the Richardson HitchinsGustavo Lemos fight card at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas, several media outlets and who-knows-how-many amateur iPhone videographers captured Shields (who served as on-air talent for the broadcast) and Baumgardner in a heated, protracted argument.

If nothing else, the confrontation brought up a question: Given the length and intensity of the fighters’ rivalry, why haven’t Shields and Baumgarder yet stepped inside the ropes to hash things out?

It’s a weighty problem.

Shields (14-0, 2 KOs), a two-time gold-medal-winning Olympian and two-division undisputed world champion, competes at middleweight. Baumgardner (15-0, 7 KOs), herself an undisputed champion, competes at junior lightweight. That’s a 30-pound gap in weight – almost certainly a bridge too far for matching the fighters.

Claressa Shields: "Scary Alycia Baumgardner Was Shook!"

Dmitry Salita, Shields’ promoter, recently spoke to BoxingScene about the odds of a Shields-Baumgardner happening.

“Alycia is out there speaking complete nonsense, going on Shaquille O’Neal’s podcast, talking about fighting Claressa,” Salita said. “It is like Manny Pacquiao challenging Mike Tyson. It is so ridiculous – it is not real. And people that don’t really know boxing or follow women’s boxing, they just see names. They don’t understand weight classes, [but] they think about it and talk about it.”

Salita, who has sought to revive boxing in the Detroit region with a developmental, ShoBox-like series on DAZN, has known Baumgardner for some time. A Fremont, Ohio native now training under Bill Haney in Las Vegas, Baumgardner rose to fame as a professional in Detroit working with LJ Harrison and Tony Harrison.

“I’ve known Alycia for a long time – like way, way before,” Salita said. “We have always invited her to fights. I am not one to say anything negative.”

Yet there is a certain amount of negativity, completely independent of any beef with Shields, that lingers over Baumgardner’s career. Last July, a pre-fight drug test sample from Baumgardner yielded “an adverse analytical finding for a banned substance” that put her under a microscope and led to a suspension from the Association of Boxing Commissions.

Baumgardner has since been exonerated by the WBC (the sanctioning body that collected the sample in question) and, according to the fighter, is no longer under suspension by the Association of Boxing Commissions.

But it will be difficult for Baumgardner to fully put the issue behind her until she makes her next fight.

Is there even a possibility it could come against Shields?

“I called her manager,” said Salita. “‘We will make the fight at 154.’ And like Don King used to say, ‘There is only one way to say yes and 99 ways to say no.’ So they said no in 99 ways.”

Salita said any theoretical Shields-Baumgardner fight would have to happen now “because Claressa is growing” and hasn’t fought below middleweight in years.

In any case, the promoter suspects Baumgardner was never really serious about taking on the fighter many describe as boxing’s GWOAT (Greatest Woman of All Time).

“It is all talk,” Salita said of Baumgardner’s desire for a Shields fight. “It is a way to make herself relevant, and the way she has gone about it has not been classy.”

WBO, WBC and WBA-super welterweight champion, American boxer Terence Crawford held a joint training session with his compatriot, WBC lightweight world champion Shakur Stevenson.

Crawford, 36, last stepped into the ring against Errol Spence in July 2023. Terence won that fight by technical knockout in the ninth round. He has 40 wins (31 by knockout) and no losses.

Stevenson, 26, last fought against Edwin De Los Santos in November 2023. In that fight, Shakur won by unanimous decision. He has 21 wins (ten by knockout) and no losses.

Crawford Reveals Game Changing Advice From Shakur Stevenson Moments Before Spence Fight

The six-time heavyweight champion is considered an icon in the sport by peers and boxing fans and has remained in tune with the heavyweight division, where he fought for over 20 years from 1985 to now. He became the youngest heavyweight champion in the world at age 20 in 1986, a feat that remains untouched.

Anthony Joshua showed off his kickboxing skills during a gruelling training session on Monday.

AJ is currently ticking over in the gym after dispatching former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou inside two rounds in his last outing in March.

The Cameroonian cage fighter had caused Tyson Fury all kinds of problems during their nip-and-tuck affair five months prior.

However, Joshua faced no such challenges as he dropped Ngannou twice before sending him down and out with a clubbing right hand.

The finish was incredibly conclusive but after witnessing Joshua throwing some kicks on the pads in training earlier today, fans want to see the heavyweight titans rematch in MMA.

Reacting to the video, which was uploaded to Joshua’s Instagram story, one fan wrote: “Bro is coming to finish Ngannou off in MMA.”

Another tweeted: “Rematch with Ngannou but MMA this time.”

A third added: “Might as well go to MMA and KO Ngannou.”

But not everyone was as impressed with what they were seeing.

One supporter remarked: “That’s horrific.”

Another wrote: “Looking stiff asf.”

Meanwhile, a third added: “Can see the kick, cook a full five-course meal, go to sleep, wake up, go to work, come back and then dodge

Joshua recently confirmed that he will return to the ring in September.

The Watford powerhouse had hoped to fight again in June but it appears his team are holding out for something big later in the year.

Francis Ngannou vs Anthony Joshua estimated purse is revealed: How much is it worth? | Marca

His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, announced last month that he is planning a ‘huge’ boxing show at Wembley in September – and logic suggests AJ could be part of that card.

That could mean Joshua fighting for the soon-to-be-vacated IBF title or boxing the winner of Oleksandr Usyk vs Fury if the loser accepts a step-aside fee to let it happen.

AJ won’t be staying in boxing for long though.

The 34-year-old revealed last week that his initial career plan was to retire at the age of 35 this October.

He’s not said he intends to fight on for two more years, but it appears the curtain is beginning to fall on Joshua’s boxing career either way.

It’s a new week on the tennis ATP rankings, and there is a new confirmation that the Serbian is the best tennis player of all time.

Novak Djokovic, the Serbian tennis superstar, is all set to retain his position as the top-ranked player on the ATP list for the following week. This feat will make him the oldest player in the history of tennis to hold the world number one ranking at the age of 36 years and 321 days.

The previous record was held by Swiss player Roger Federer, who, on April 24, 2018, was one day older than Djokovic when he was overtaken at the top of the ranking. Federer first claimed the top spot in the ATP list on February 2, 2004, and held it for 310 weeks.

Roger Federer: Novak Djokovic does his best for the players

Starting from Monday, Djokovic will have spent 420 weeks as the top-ranked player, the most successful run in the sport’s history. Djokovic first claimed the top spot in the ATP list on July 4, 2011, and has held it for a total of 9 years and 256 days.

However, the second-placed player and 14-year-younger Italian, Jannik Sinner, will now be very close to Djokovic. Sinner has been on a steady rise in the rankings and has earned his spot among the top players in the world. It will be interesting to see how the future unfolds for both players in the coming weeks and months.

In the build up to his blockbuster fight with Mike Tyson, celebrity boxer Jake Paul took to Instagram to post a new training video, inspired by the classic film Rocky. However, he made a mockery of Sylvester Stallone’s famous training montage, as fans on social media pointed out the key detail he missed in his bastardized version.

Fans diss Jake Paul over Rocky remake

On both YouTube and Instagram, the most-liked comment on Paul’s video was resounding: “Embarrassing.”

“Please don’t compare yourself to a Legend,” another comment said on Instagram, to the tune of over 2,500 likes.

Jake Paul is no stranger to online hate, which he has leveraged to grow his brand bigger and bigger, eventually leading to the July 20th mega fight against “Iron Mike” Tyson on Netflix.

While some trolls leave similar remarks on all of Paul’s posts, this one in particular got specific criticism because of its inability to capture the spirit of Rocky Balboa‘s triumphant run up the “Rocky Steps” at the Philadelphia Art Museum.

“Clown paid all those people to cheer for him,” wrote a commenter on YouTube, pointing out his lack of authenticity.

“Didn’t even have a quarter of the ppl rocky had cheering,” another critic chimed in.

Mike Tyson will knock out Jake Paul, says a familiar rival of 'The Problem Child' | Marca

It’s true that unlike Sylvester Stallone, Jake Paul has failed to capture the hearts of the public as he prepares for the Mike Tyson fight. In his self-proclaimed role as “The Problem Child,” he doesn’t seem bothered by playing the bad guy.

Maybe 77-year-old Stallone will even become the next aging legend that he challenges to a fight.

Former UFC fighter Clay Collard is eyeing a return to the boxing ring with one goal in mind: to take down Jake Paul and reclaim MMA’s honor. Despite currently focusing on his PFL career, the 31-year-old Collard remains keenly interested in a potential matchup against Paul.

With 18 professional boxing bouts under his belt, including facing Olympic silver medallist Bektemir MelikuzievCollard‘s boxing experience sets him apart from the aging MMA stars that Paul has been squaring off against.

Collard‘s journey into boxing began as a means to improve his striking skills for MMA, but it quickly became a source of income after his UFC stint ended in 2015. Since then, he’s taken on multiple short-notice fights to make ends meet, showcasing his resilience and determination in the ring. In a recent interview with the talkSPORT MMA YouTube channel, Collard left no room for ambiguity.

“The only guy I want to box is Jake Paul,” he said.

“I just want to do it for all those MMA fighters that he has beat up.

“I have played the game of boxing a little bit unlike most of these guys so I think he would definitely have his hands full against me. But he’s doing crazy s*** now. I want to kick you’re a**.”

Mike Tyson to face Jake Paul in boxing match this summer

Paul‘s professional boxing career has seen him face several MMA stars, including Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley (twice), Anderson Silva, and Nate Diaz. However, his next challenge is of a different magnitude as he gears up to take on boxing legend Mike Tyson on July 20 in Arlington, Texas.

Claressa Shields, the undisputed reigning super middleweight queen, isn’t backing down from a challenge. After being called out by undisputed super featherweight champion Alycia Baumgardner, Shields fired back with a bold statement: “I will fight – and beat – her at any weight class.” However, it’s not just words anymore. Both boxers recently got into a heated face-off on the sidelines of the Richardson Hitchins vs. Gustavo Lemos fight.

I say yes, I will fight Claressa Shields at 147, make the fight,” Baumgardner declared on an Instagram live video. “Size does not matter to me, baby,” she insisted, “It’s the skills, baby.” Claressa Shields responded by telling her to come up to 154 lbs if she wanted to fight her. What ensued was a barrage of social media mudslinging from both sides. Every interviewer was asking them questions about the other. So naturally, with so much bad blood, things were expected to come to a head soon. Well, that’s exactly what happened at the recent DAZN event.

Shields vs Marshall weigh-in video: Mayer throws kick at Baumgardner - Bad Left Hook

At yesterday’s fight between Richardson Hitchins and Gustavo Lemos, Claressa Shields, and Alycia Baumgardner, who were in the audience, got engaged in an irate confrontation after the fight had ended. Amid the shouting fest, Baumgardner accused the undisputed champion of wanting to be like her.

Well, this tuned up the pitch drastically and then Baumgardner started calling Shields, “Insecure.” It was at this time, that Shields even smacked Baumgardner’s hand away from her face. DAZN posted a video of this altercation, with the caption, “[watch] @alyciambaum and @Claressashields go at it.” Even Shields acknowledged the confrontation in her post on X after it happened.

Fight is exciting but the logistics present a dilemma

The internet is buzzing after a heated encounter between champions Claressa Shields and Alycia Baumgardner. Here’s a breakdown of how fight fans reacted on Twitter. One of the tweets captured the raw excitement many fans feel about a potential Shields vs. Baumgardner fight. The anticipation is palpable, with fans eager to see these two talented boxers go toe-to-toe.

Simone Biles brought a little bling to the basketball arena!

The 27-year-old Olympian doubled up on the sequins for a night out with her husband, Jonathan Owens, as the couple apparently caught a Houston Rockets game at the city’s Toyota Center on April 5.

While the Miami Heat ended up handing the Rockets a 119-104 loss, Biles’ outfit was a total win. She teamed a bright red pair of sequined cowboy boots with a white sequined Prada bag. She shared a close-up of both on her Instagram Stories on April 6.

Biles also posted a few other shots of the outfit, including two selfies with her NFL player husband, 28, who opted for ripped biker jeans, a few chains and a matching brown T-shirt to go with his brown sneakers.

Since her boots commanded the room, Biles kept the rest of her outfit relatively simple. She rocked an oversized dark denim jacket, matching denim shorts and a white cropped T-shirt.

This wasn’t the pair’s first time at an NBA game. They previously attended a matchup between the Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers at the Toyota Center on Jan. 29.

Just last month, Owens shared his gratitude for Biles in a heartfelt Instagram caption in honor of her 27th birthday on March 14. The couple has been married since April 2023.

For the special post, the Chicago Bears safety called his wife his “rock” and his “best friend,” and shared 10 images from an oceanside photo shoot in Hawaii.

For Sebastian Fundora and his team, it could come down to what’s more important to him – money, or ethics.

Tim Tszyu rescued the launch of Premier Boxing Champions on Amazon Prime by agreeing to fight him after Keith Thurman, a very different fighter, withdrew through injury. He was also paid less money for the privilege. If he hadn’t done so, the entire card was at risk of being pulled.

I don’t think Fundora would have beaten Tszyu if Tszyu hadn’t got so horrible a cut. I also don’t think he’d beat him in a rematch if Tszyu has a full training camp to prepare for him – or beat Errol Spence, if Spence still has enough left. The danger of defeat exists, regardless of which of the three – Terence Crawford has also been spoken about – likely opponents Fundora fights next.

Light Middleweight division in chaos after suspensions - AS USA

None of that is to say that Fundora’s a bad fighter. He’s actually a very good one. But Tszyu, Crawford and potentially Spence – who appears a favourite of PBC – are all very difficult opponents.

A rematch between Tszyu and Fundora would be a much bigger fight than their first one was. The drama that unfolded in Las Vegas makes a rematch seem very logical, but Fundora’s next move could yet be heavily influenced by PBC, or by Amazon Prime. When I was still an active fighter there was a lot of momentum for a rematch between me and Adrien Broner, but the promoter and TV network decided to take Broner in another direction and six months later got Broner beat – so regardless of the optics to the naked eye, the existence of momentum can count for little.

It’s not so long ago we were being told that Crawford was being stripped of his IBF welterweight title because of Spence’s desire to activate his clause for a rematch between them. Today, they seem likelier to fight Fundora than each other, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that Spence isn’t targeting Fundora, and his WBO and WBC light-middleweight titles, to strengthen his hand before a future date with Crawford. Outside of Spence and perhaps Tszyu, Crawford doesn’t seem to have a big-money fight at 154lbs, which doesn’t make Fundora seem a likely next move for him, even if winning a world title in another weight division enhances his legacy.

Brian McIntyre gets word on Terence Crawford vs Errol Spence rematch - Bad Left Hook

At a time when there’s speculation surrounding Spence’s relationship with Derrick James it’s worth acknowledging the success they’ve had together. I don’t see why a loss to a fighter like Crawford should affect their chemistry; I also don’t see what a fighter as developed as Spence is going to change at the age of 34.

UPDATE :Errol Spence Jr ‘Barely in the Country’, Stablemate Frank Martin Shares Big Fish’s Current Status Following Terence Crawford Loss

Similarly, there’s no need for a big rebuild in Tszyu’s career after a defeat like that. The obvious move for him is a rematch with Fundora. There are a lot of moving parts that need to be in the right place for that rematch to happen, but with the momentum behind it and how entertained people were by their first fight – plus with the narrative that exists off the back of their first fight – an immediate rematch should, regardless of how often fighters receive what they deserve, happen next.

If the rematch happens, and Tszyu impresses and wins, a fight between him and either Spence or Crawford is bigger than a fight between either of those two and Fundora. If he doesn’t impress then a third fight with Fundora could even be an option. There seems too little reason for Fundora-Tszyu II not to happen in the coming months.

After Gervonta Davis, now Abdul Wahid after converting to Islam, defeated Ryan Garcia last year, ‘Tank’ called himself the new face of boxing. On the other hand, after his WBO Super-Lightweight title defense against Dierry Jean in 2015, Terence Crawford branded himself as “the new face to boxing“. Later, ‘Bud’ Crawford became undisputed at 140 and 147 lbs. But, Oscar De La Hoya feels when it comes to “focus,” Devin Haney deserves to be called the face of boxing!

Haney is currently undefeated with 31 wins. In addition to becoming undisputed at Lightweight, he moved up to Super-Lightweight last year to win the WBC from Regis Prograis. Now, on April 20th, Haney will defend the same against Ryan Garcia. On that note, De La Hoya just praised how Haney has maintained his career in the sport.

Gervonta Davis - Latest Gervonta Davis News, Stats & Updates

During his latest interaction with FightHype, a reporter told Oscar De La Hoya that Bill Haney always drew a parallel between Canelo Alvarez and Devin Haney’s journey. “The way he built his career, people and kids look up to him. So, that’s what makes him the face of boxing. Would you agree with that?” She asked Oscar De La Hoya. In his reply, De La Hoya said that Haney had been in boxing forever.

Since he was a kid, right? And he was brought up by a good man. That’s what I respect about Bill. I’ve spent a lot of time with him at a home in Vegas, on the plane. And I respect that. He keeps him in line and he keeps him focused and hungry,” said De La Hoya.

At this, on being asked how hard it was for a boxer to stay focused, De La Hoya recounted personal experience.

According to Oscar De La Hoya, with critics as well as admirers, it is tough to stay focused when one has reached the elite level in the sport. For the same reason, observing the manner in which Haney has been maintaining his career, the 51-year-old said, “It’s so hard and I know that from experience. With me, they had to keep me away from the women. Because they would chase me all the way up to the mountain.

But, it’s hard to keep that focus. Especially, at this level. The elite level. So, that’s why you gotta respect it,” he added. At this, Oscar was asked if Devin Haney resembled Floyd Mayweather. To conclude, the 51-year-old announced that Haney had his own style and was on his way to writing his own story. Anyway, do you think it is the focus that makes Haney the face of boxing?
