He said after his latest setback: “There are positives to take away for sure, but I’m used to a really high standard in terms of expectations and results. Not having a title is – compared to the last 15 years – not a great season at all.” He also added: “I had semis in Australia, the semis here. It’s normal to expect that you have some seasons where you don’t start well – this is the one. Hopefully, I can pick up. In terms of results, I can build from here.”

Tyson showed off his quickness with strikes to the trainer’s body and hands along with a powerful right hook. It was a clear warning to Paul to show that the 57-year-old former heavyweight champion still has it.

Tyson said on “Hannity” that he was “scared” about fighting Paul, but that was a part of him getting mentally ready.

“As the fight gets closer, the less nervous I become, because it’s reality. And in reality, I’m invincible.”

Jake Paul is one hundred percent focused on his preparation for the July 20 fight against Mike Tyson. The exhibition bout has the content creator working overtime preparing for him in boxing, even if it means delaying his other plans, such as his mixed martial arts (MMA) debut.

Paul’s attitude is understandable. Although the almost 30-year age difference evens the scales, “Iron Mike” is one of the toughest opponents the YouTuber-turned-boxer has faced in his short career.

So far, the only loss on Paul’s 9-1 record was against Tommy Fury, the only professional boxer he has faced. Although the result was a split decision and Fury is far from being a top-class boxer, this shows the difference that still exists between so-called influencer boxing and professional boxing.

That is why Paul has decided to focus on boxing, even at the cost of delaying his long-awaited debut in MMA. It is worth remembering that the influencer has signed a contract to fight with the Professional Fighters League (PFL) promotion in 2024.

Paul’s debut will have to wait

PFL manager Donn Davis assured that Jake Paul will debut in MMA but also admitted that plans are on hold due to his fight with Tyson. “So his development in MMA is not coming along as quickly as we thought. Will he fight for the PFL? One hundred percent,” Davis declared.

Algieri agreed that if Hrgovic “washes, dismantles” Dubois, then he deserves that opportunity to test Joshua’s chin.

“We’ve seen [Joshua] be inconsistent, and that inconsistency starts here,” Algieri said, motioning to his head.

A heavy blow to Joshua’s head “can happen anytime, and it’s like what Mike Tyson said: your life changes with one punch. It’d be very easy for [Joshua] to revert to that guy who struggled against Andy Ruiz.”

With Davison in his corner and a major bout looming, the presence of Joshua adds to the anticipation of activity in the sport’s most compelling division.
