The twisties and Simone Biles is a tale as old as time. Simone Biles’s emergence as a gymnastics icon is inspiring after her twisties debacle in Tokyo. During the games, Biles decided to withdraw her name from as many as four-team finals. The US gymnast further explained that due to her twisties, she got confused between the movements mid-air. After the Olympics withdrawal, Biles also took a prolonged break to completely come out of her struggles.

Simone Biles thought 'the world is going to hate me' after experiencing the twisties at the Tokyo Olympics | CNN

It was during the middle of the events in Tokyo that Simone Biles developed a weird feeling. However, as the games progressed, Biles’ troubles only increased. In a recent conversation on the ‘CallHerDaddy’ podcast, Simone Biles recalled one such incident at the Tokyo Olympics. She explained that during one of the events, Biles completely lost her footing as to how she would enact her routines. However, in order to not make her team suffer, Biles risked everything to perform a two-and-a-half.

Emphasizing the seriousness of the situation, Biles stated, “And then I was like, they put up a score for a two and a half, so I have to do a two and a half. And I’m thinking if I do a double back that’s so dangerous, my coach will kill me, my team will never forgive.”

For Simone Biles' legacy, medals will be secondary to her impact on mental health

Renowned media personality, Piers Morgan, lost his cool after Biles’ decision to withdraw from Tokyo. He put forward his opinion and stated that keeping calm in tough times is what defines a true athlete. Morgan then went on to term Biles as a “coward” and also a letdown for the country and her entire fan base.

Luckily for Biles, as strong as the criticisms were, love and support soon followed suit. It was none other than the former first lady of America, Michelle Obama, who extended her empathy for Biles. Her fellow teammate, Jordan Chiles, also supported her decision and dedicated Team USA’s silver medal to Biles.

Heavyweight legend Tyson will take on YouTuber Paul in Texas this summer in a controversial fight which has split opinion

Mike Tyson has been backed to beat Jake Paul by Ryan Garcia – despite the boxer having been a champion of the YouTuber in the past.

Heavyweight legend Tyson will take on social media star Paul in Texas this summer despite having not fought professionally for almost 20 years. His last outing in the ring was a bore draw in an exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr in 2020.

But Tyson, who will be 58 on fight night, has received support from Garcia who was an early backer of Paul who burst on to the boxing scene having made his name from viral videos.

Garcia, who shocked Devin Haney in New York last weekend, said: “I love you, Mike. You look good. I’m going to your fight, I’ll be there. I’m with you in everything, remember that, always in spirit. I got you. Love you, Mike.”

Paul and Garcia met while they lived in Los Angeles with the latter introducing his new friend to boxing. But after Paul knocked out Ryan Bourland in the first round of his last fight earlier this year, Garcia admitted he regretted their allegiance.

Paul didn’t hold back in his response, saying: “You seem like you’re losing your mind and acting thirsty and desperate. You’re saying you’re a billionaire when you’ve had one money fight. If you do want to fight, to me, that’s light work. You got no footwork and as long as you’ve been in the game, I’m a better boxer than you.”

Ryan Garcia has shown his support to one fighter ahead of Jake Paul v Mike Tyson.

Ryan Garcia has made it clear who he will be supporting when Jake Paul takes on Mike Tyson later this year.

The American showed support for one fighter prior to his clear victory over Devin Haney on Saturday.

Garcia inflicted a first professional defeat on WBC super lightweight champion Haney who was floored three times in the seventh, 10th and 11th rounds.

Tyson hasn’t fought in a professional bout in almost 20 years but will face Paul in July in a contest that has been questioned by many.

The Problem Child Paul has brought a lot of attention to the world of boxing and seemed to be heading in a respectable direction of facing serious opponents in his bid to one day become a world champion.

However, the move to fight Tyson is clearly one that is clearly motivated by money so it’s hard not to criticise.

Earlier this month boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya gave a damning assessment on Paul’s decision to fight the veteran.

“And they have got Fury vs Usyk in May. And then they will have me in September. It’s unbelievable.”

Former two-time heavyweight world champion Joshua extended his unbeaten streak to four fights last month when he dropped Ngannou twice before stopping him for good in the second round. ‘AJ’ has been promised a shot at the undisputed world titles in his next fight, which Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are competing for next month.

Compubox’s punch statistics lend numerical context to tonight’s big shocker. Garcia landed 87 of 214 punches (40.7%), compared to 106 of 285 for Haney (37.2%).

Notably, Garcia landed nearly twice as many power shots (95) as Haney (45), landing at a 41% clip after Haney’s previous 10 opponents landed only 25%.

Ryan Garcia wins by majority decision!

Garcia has handed Haney the first defeat of his professional career in stunning fashion. He’s just won a majority decision to score the seismic upset. The judges’ scores were 114-110 and 115-109 for Garcia with the third scoring it a 112-112 draw.

Round 6

Garcia opens the sixth guns ablaze, meeting Haney in the center of the ring and reeling off no fewer than 20 uncontested punches while whipping the crowd into a frenzy. A couple of them get through Haney’s guard but he weathers the barrage well, then picks up right where he left off in the fifth, using educated pressure to score. Close round and the early spurt was enough for Garcia.

Arnold Barboza Jr has just won a highly controversial split decision over Northern Ireland’s Sean McComb. It was a bit of snoozer, with long periods of inaction drawing boos from the nearly full Barclays Center crowd. But the Belfast southpaw was clearly getting the better of the action and the result came as a surprise. One ringside judge had it 98-92 for McComb while the other two scored it 96-94 and 97-93 for Barboza. (The Guardian had it 97-93 for McComb.)

The announcement of the decision was greeted with a chorus of boos and catcalls that only grew in volume when Barboda conducted an in-ring interview before departing the arena floor. Compubox’s punch statistics reveal that Barboza landed 10-of-44 shots per round after averaging 22-of-70 in his previous seven outings.

That concludes the undercard. Haney and Garcia should be making their ring entrances in short order.

Hello and welcome to Barclays Center for tonight’s fight between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia. We’re ringside in Brooklyn for what, at least on paper, is a top-drawer matchup between two of America’s brightest young boxing stars, both 25 years old and at the front of their athletic primes. But following one of the most unusual build-ups to a major fight in recent memory, defined by Garcia’s highly erratic behavior and questions over his mental fitness, it’s left many asking whether it should even be taking place.

Devin Haney vs Ryan Garcia LIVE RESULTS: Garcia SHOCKS Haney to win after knocking down champ THREE times - updates | The Sun

Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) unified all four major titles at 135lbs with a career-best win over Vasiliy Lomachenko nearly a year ago, before climbing to 140lbs and becoming a two-weight champion with an impressive shutout of Regis Prograis to win the WBC’s version of the super lightweight title.

Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs), a social-media superstar with upwards of 10.5m Instagram followers with 7.5m more on TikTok, was supposed to be fighting for that strap tonight. But he came in an eye-popping 3.2lbs over at yesterday’s weigh-in, making him ineligible to win the title. (Should Haney lose, the belt will become vacant.)

The weight debacle was the culmination of a months-long pattern of unsettling behavior by Garcia, both in person and on social media. Since the bicoastal press tour announcing the fight where Haney claimed to smell alcohol on his rival’s breath, Garcia’s once-polished presence on social media has descended into a disturbing blur of conspiracy theories and apparent cries for help, not least an X Spaces stream with Andrew Tate (and subsequent tweetstorm) where he claimed he was kidnapped by “the elites” at Bohemian Grove, the secretive Sonoma County club for the rich, and “forced to watch kids getting raped”.

Owing to Garcia’s volatile comportment, there were many points over the past few months where it didn’t seem like we’d ever make it to fight night. But here we are. And we the fighters should be making their ringwalks for the main event in a little more than an hour’s time.

DEVIN HANEY takes on Ryan Garcia TONIGHT – but the WBC super lightweight title will no longer be on the line.

It comes after Garcia weighed in 3.1lb overweight on Friday, meaning The Dream’s 140lb strap is not up for grabs in New York.

The pair fought six times as amateurs, winning three times each – but their biggest fight yet takes place this evening.

Ryan Garcia has bizarrely started warming up with a team of violinists in his dressing room.

The strange antics remain even just hours before the fight is due to start.

Garcia looked to rub salt in the wounds at the public weigh-in as he walked on stage with a bottle in hand and chugged from it.

When asked what he was drinking, he told DAZN: “I was drinking a nice ass beer. That s*** was fire.”

Ryan Garcia appeared to suggest he missed weight on PURPOSE for his fight against Devin Haney.

The controversial American MISSED the championship weight.

He hit the scales at 143.2lb and was denied the chance to cut the extra 3.2lb, meaning he could no longer contest for the strap.

Haney, the undefeated two-division champ, successfully made the weight but the bout remained in doubt.

But the grudge bout was salvaged after the two camps agreed a financial compensation for Haney.

Garcia spoke out online following his missed weight debacle to hint it was all part of a masterplan.

He posted on X: “I feel great and I got a 3 pound advantage. Let’s gooo hahahahaa. Winners do what they have to do, I’m still sharp.”

Garcia added separately: “Why would I force myself to make weight so I can be weak. Nah, I’m here to win. That’s it.”

Devin Haney has beefed up after moving away from struggling to make weight to go up a division.

Haney reigned as the undisputed lightweight world champion with the WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO belts to his name.

But the unbeaten American had a fight on his hands before the first bell had even sounded as he battled to shrink to 135 pounds.

Haney was often left completely gaunt when tipping the scales inside the lightweight limit.

And despite never missing weight, he decided enough was enough last December with a move up to 140 pounds.

In his first bout, he defeated Regis Prograis, 35, to win the WBC title that he takes into the ring against Garcia, 25.

Evander Holyfield’s comeback fight against Vitor Belfort in 2021 serves as a warning for Mike Tyson.

Holyfield, then 58 years old, accepted a fight with the former UFC light-heavyweight champion when Oscar De La Hoya, Belfort’s original opponent, was forced to pull out of the contest after contracting COVID-19.

Like Tyson’s upcoming fight against Jake Paul, Holyfield’s return to the ring was preceded by widespread medical concerns.

The former two-weight world champion looked like a shell of his former self, slipping early and nearly falling out of the ring.

Many had criticised the decision to place a 58-year-old Holyfield in the ring and praised the referee for stepping in so quickly.

However, the boxing legend said: “The guy pushed me, the guy is strong.

“But I wasn’t hurt. There wasn’t no shot that hurt me real bad. He got me with a shot and I was off balance. I’m not hurt. It’s kind of sad.
