The fight that everyone has been waiting for might just happen in 2024 with the help of this member of the Saudi Royal Court, but it won’t be easy

Boxing fans around the globe have been eagerly awaiting this fight, and with the help of an efficient mastermind, there is a great chance it could happen.

Saudi Royal Court member Turki Alalshikh has a real shot at organizing the highly anticipated Terence Crawfordvs. Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis fight. Although many boxing fans have long awaited this matchup, there are still details to iron out.

Terence Crawford finishes Errol Spence as he floors rival three times in stunning victory

His Excellency faces some challenges in the near future because Crawford is set to face Israil Madrimov this summer. This fight is believed to be scheduled in Los Angeles, California, on the first weekend of August. Terence, a welterweight champion, will gain up to 7 more pounds to challenge Madrimov in the super welterweight division, moving from 147 to 154 pounds.

If this fight occurs and Crawford maintains his undefeated status (40-0, 42 KOs), everything points to a bout against ‘Boots’, even though he has never shown much excitement to face Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs). However, given that Terence Crawford would fight in August, there is a possibility he might not step into the ring until 2025.

Is ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in the plans of His Excellency?

Another fight that Turki Alalshikh is looking to set up involves Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, who will be battling Jaime Munguia on Saturday, May 4. Regardless of the outcome, ‘Canelo’ could face Terence Crawford soon. Alvarez (59-2-2, 39 KOs) has his eyes set on another fight in 2024, which would prevent a meeting with Crawford this year. However, with a short list of adversaries, His Excellency will be looking to capitalize on the success of the Mexican boxer early next year.

Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs), on the other hand, could suffer a significant blow to his career if he falls to ‘Canelo’, especially after not performing as well as everyone expects, based on average exhibitions in his recent fights.

More details about Crawford’s next two opponents will be revealed after this summer.

Korea’s Tom Kim will play alongside Tiger Woods in the first season of the TGL for the four-man Jupiter Links Golf Club, the club and the PGA announced in a press release Monday.

Joining them on the roster are Max Homa, a six-time PGA champion, and Kevin Kisner, with four PGA wins.

Kim, 21, was previously confirmed to be on the roster for the TGL, a team golf league backed by Woods and Rory McIlroy set to launch in January 2025, but was not yet committed to a team.

“I am so excited about playing in the TGL format with this group of guys. Obviously, I grew up inspired by Tiger Woods, but Max and Kevin are two of my favorite guys out on Tour. Both are genuinely good guys, but both also have a similar competitive fire.” Kim said in the press release Monday. “It will be incredible to join these guys as teammates. To talk strategy with Tiger in a true competition is something I never dreamed could happen.”

Kim, with three career wins on the PGA Tour, is the youngest player on the team. “Tom is so good and a very underrated player in my opinion. He stepped up for the International Team at the Presidents Cup [in 2022] when they needed it, which as a rookie, is no easy task. I’m excited to have him on the team,” Woods said in the press release.

Gervonta Davis has surprisingly told his old rival Ryan Garcia that he should now retire from boxing.

Garcia achieved a career-best win on Saturday night by beating Devin Haney.

The young American floored his rival three times as he shocked the boxing world and ultimately won on points.

From the very first bell Garcia seized control, hurting Haney with a left hook in the opening round.

Garcia scored two further knockdowns in rounds 10 and 11 to seal a victory not many had predicted.

However, as he missed weight before the contest, he did not claim Haney’s belt with the win.

Regardless, the result is a huge triumph for Garcia and has set him up for massive future fights.

This was his second PPV outing, having lost his first major step-up against Gervonta Davis last year.

Davis was ecstatic with Saturday’s result, given that he had an ongoing feud with Haney and was delighted to see him lose.

However, his happiness at seeing Garcia emerge victorious has not prevented him from firing a few shots in his old foe’s direction also.

In a deleted tweet, Davis wrote: “It’s best Ryan retire now. He gonna get hurt bad.”

Former World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz was also on hand to present English footballer Jude Bellington with the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year Award, which the Spaniard won last year. Earlier in the evening Alcaraz ran into Djokovic on the red carpet, where the rivals shared a laugh over each other’s tuxedos.

After a return to gymnastics competition that included winning historic U.S. and world all-around titles in 2023, American gymnastics superstar Simone Biles has won the Laureus World Comeback of the Year, the organisation announced Monday (22 April) at a ceremony in Madrid.

The award is Biles’ fourth Laureus World Sport Award after previously winning Sportswoman of the Year three times (2017, 2019, 2020).

Simone Biles returning to elite competition since mental health focus break

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Biles made global headlines after withdrawing from several finals to priortise her mental health as she dealt with what gymnastics call ‘the twisties,’ where the body and mind fall out of sync. She returned to competition, claiming the balance beam bronze medal, but also having started a worldwide conversation about mental health.

Four-time Olympic gold medallist Michael Johnson praised Biles for her example.

“It’s not new that this is a very difficult position to be in, to be an athlete competing in front of millions of people with all of the expectation, it’s not new. It’s always been very difficult for athletes. But it has been very refreshing to see that now fans can accept that this is very difficult, and some times of athlete and needs to take time off,” said Johnson. “I thought Simone Biles back in 2021 during the Olympics was just an amazing moment for sport, but also for people outside [of sport]. You saw people outside of sport, as well, start to realise that this is important. Mental health is important, and so having that conversation, I think, has been fantastic, and another example of where sport can be in areas of society that are really important for people.”

Peter McNeeley knows firsthand what it’s like to feel the force of Mike Tyson‘s punches. In 1995, McNeeley, also known as ‘Hurricane,’ found himself facing Tyson, experiencing the ferocious power of the former undisputed heavyweight champion.

McNeeley was thrust into the spotlight to take on Tyson in what was ‘Iron Mike’s’ first fight back after his release from prison. Tyson had been incarcerated since 1992 after being convicted of the rape of Desiree Washington, receiving a six-year sentence, of which he served three years before being granted parole.

Despite McNeeley‘s pre-fight bravado, he was unable to back up his words in the ring and was dispatched by Tyson in a mere 89 seconds. Reflecting on his experience facing Tyson during an interview with Sports Illustrated in 2010, McNeeley emphasized the sheer power of Tyson‘s punches.

“At the weigh-in, I was 224Ibs and he was 220,” he recalled.

Oleksandr Usyk‘s promoter Alexander Krassyuk has revealed fears Tyson Fury will withdraw from next month’s undisputed world heavyweight title fight.

The Gypsy King meets Usyk on May 18 in Riyadh as they bid to become the undisputed world heavyweight champion.

The clash had been scheduled to take place in Riyadh on February 17 but was postponed after Fury sustained an injury during camp.

He suffered a severe cut above his right eye on Friday while sparring, which has been labelled by his promotion team as a ‘freak cut’.

‘Usyk has actually had a triple camp for this fight,’ Krassyuk said. ‘He started in September for the fight to take place last December.

‘We showed up to the Ngannou fight to step in the ring to announce the fight for the undisputed, but his team jumped and said he didn’t look that good, so Usyk gave him some space to prepare at his camp in Saudi Arabia.

We were then meant to fight on Feb. 17, then we were rescheduled for May. Tyson Fury has withdrawn four times already from this fight.

‘I’ve not got too much confidence in the rematch happening, by the way. If Tyson Fury loses, will he have the confidence to step inside the ring again? Theoretically he can, but we all know what happened in the rematch with Wladimir Klitschko.’

Fighters have promised to forfeit $10m (£8m) if they pulled out of the fight, but Krassyuk remains doubtful Fury will compete.

Former WBC heavyweight chaWilder fired up for potential Joshua clashmpion Deontay Wilder is sure that a fight with Anthony Joshua will happen in the future despite recent setbacks, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The American heavyweight faces Zhilei Zhang June 1, six months on from his shock defeat to Joseph Parker. The loss to Parker in December derailed a planned fight against Joshua, but Wilder says the long-awaited bout can still happen.

Joshua and Wilder both fought on the same night last December, with a view to meeting in April 2024, but the British-Nigerian was forced to face former UFC champion Francis Ngannou instead, after Wilder’s defeat.
