Claressa Shields and Gervonta Davis have rubbed each other off the wrong way. The two leading boxers of their weight classes are now embroiled in a war of words on social media. In fresh updates on this front, ‘GWOAT’ Shields has taken a jab at ‘Tank’ while roping in his mother for comments he allegedly made on the former’s looks. Interestingly, both are in Las Vegas, for the Canelo vs. Munguia fight week.

Tank has been an active soul on social media for a few days now. While he made sure the world knew that Floyd Mayweather and him were not on good terms, he relayed the same information about his dislike for Devin Haney while reacting to the news of Ryan Garcia testing positive for PEDs, something Shields didn’t agree with. Shields sought to point out the same, by noting, “Tank’ really just don’t like {Devin Haney] and it shows.” And from there began an entire fiasco.

On X, 29-year-old Shields posted an image of Tank’s mother, Kenya Brown, along with him. In captions, she responded to Garvonta Davis supposedly calling her a dog. She highlighted that she would use the inspiration of black women like Brown and herself to respond to every “man” who took swipes at black women.

She wrote, “Now @Gervontaa remember the strength and grace of our mothers, the strong black women who raised us. This is your lovely mom. Like me, I hope she would take offense to any so-called man — son or not — calling another black woman — me — a dog. Or better yet, putting their hands on one! Keep coming for me, Tank, you look dumb! And keep using your b*tch@ss brand to try tear us down; I’m gonna keep using mine — and your momma’s beautiful face — to uplift us! #GWOT.”

Prior to this, Tank had noted on his X that he does not like Haney and “the rest of y’all…” Then, when the boxing world chimed in on this freshly brewing fiasco between the fighters, a fan noted that Claressa Shields was “shady.” Agreeing with the user, the WBA lightweight champ wrote, I would be too… look how she look.”

However, it does not seem like this entire back-and-forth will end here. Claressa Shields has vowed to get back at Tank for his comments in her forthcoming diss track.

It seems like the era of diss tracks has officially set in. Kendrick Lamar has released his diss track to settle scores with Drake. Ryan Garcia in the previous week released his own diss track toward Haney, continuing his relentless efforts to undermine the fighter. Now, Shields too seems to be hopping on to the bandwagon after previously releasing a diss track aimed at Alycia Baumgardner.

After Tank had objected to the way Shields looked, the latter underscored her displeasure at the comments. Vowing to even out the scores, she revealed that she would release her diss track aimed at Tank very soon. On X she replied to him saying, “I’m dissin you on a song next midget. I got a great verse for you champ…” In a subsequent post, she doubled down on these chances. She wrote to her fans, “Diss track coming, subscribe to my YouTube channel.”

It’s ‘Tank’-War now. After that sensational win over Ryan Garcia, which established him as one of the faces of boxing ‘abso-f**king-lutely’, Gervonta Davis returns to the ring on June 15. However, unlike the last match, when he fought a catchweight bout with Garcia, this time he has to defend his WBA lightweight title from Frank Martin. The sparring video of the two boxers had sparked controversy not long ago. They came face-to-face during the kick-off press conference for their match at the MGM Grand Arena.

Incidentally, the event is co-headlined by the fight for the WBC (interim) light heavyweight title between David Benavidez and Oleksandr Gvozdyk. At the presser, the two 175-pounders went about their business in the most composed manner. However, Davis and Martin’s discussion was anything but collected and controlled. The reigning champion went straight after his challenger. It didn’t take him much time to raise his battle cry, reminding Martin about the storm he would face in June.

Initially, it was all smiles. ‘Tank’, after the thank-you notes, spoke about David Benavidez. He revealed how he had been impressed by ‘The Monster’s performance against Caleb Plant. Davis touched base with his prison term and house arrest. He mentioned how happy he was with the comeback, doing what he loves to do. “I’m just happy to be back uh here where I’m comfortable at where I’m you know um I could be flawless, and you know, and do what I do best, and that’s uh give you fans the uh best boxing um you seen up to date you,” he said.

However, with that, the tone of the speech changed as it became more about Frank Martin. Calling his opponent a ‘front-runner’, Gervonta Davis took a dig at ‘The Ghost’ hanging around with a bunch of ‘thugs’. Nevertheless, it will be, he said, “a different beast in front of him; it’s a different beast in front of him.” Spilling out that come June 15, and all those who have been walking around with Martin won’t be able to save him from his

Sorry, it going to be him, I’m telling you.” Throughout, the audience could hear Frank Martin jutting in between his barbs.

Host Jimmy Lennon Jr. asked him how he’s going to stop Davis. ‘The Ghost’ replied, “I’ve been watching everything. I know how I know how his a*s walks. I’ve been watching everything. I mean, when we get, I’m touch. I’mma touch him up. I’m touch. His, that’s, I’m touch his a** up. Yeah, the one. I know how him and his whole team walk. I know how they all walk.

Last year, a clip of Davis and Martin’s sparring session became a talking point. Reports filled in that the latter gave the champion stiff competition. It seems the incident took place at Floyd Mayweather Jr.‘s gym. He had to borrow the gear to enable him to spar. However, when it finally happened, reportedly ‘The Ghost’ proved a tough nut to crack. Otherwise, fans and followers can watch out for the latter’s caution. Past instances prove that he has the nasty habit of proving them true.

Francis Ngannou has warned Anthony Joshua that he could “wake up in the white room” after their boxing match in Saudi Arabia.

Ngannou, a former UFC heavyweight champion, made his boxing debut in October when he fought Tyson Fury in Riyadh. The Cameroonian, 37, dropped Fury but lost a controversial decision in Riyadh, where he will box another Briton in “AJ” on 8 March.

Backstage at the press conference for the fight on Monday (15 January), Ngannou told The Independent and a select group of publications: “If I catch him, then he’s going to sleep. Remember, this is the heavyweight division and everyone is quite strong. You should keep your chin away.

Stephen A. Smith is outraged to hear that the terms for Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson have been elevated.

Paul (9-1) vs. Tyson (50-6) will be officially sanctioned as a professional fight by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations. The bout takes place July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys, and streams live on Netflix. It will be an 8-round fight with 2-minute rounds.

Tyson will be 58 when he steps into the ring for the first time since November 2020, 31 years Paul’s senior. Smith went off on the bout being classified as professional.

I’m not taking anything away from the great Mike Tyson, who we all treasure because of the years of greatness he gave us. But he is 57. And in Jake Paul’s case, the only real fighter he’s fought has been Tommy Fury, who’s not considered in the upper echelon in anybody’s mind. Jake Paul has been training with professional boxing trainers for years.

Smith questions Paul’s approach. He doesn’t think his level of competition so far reflects his aspirations of becoming champion.

Gervonta Davis and Frank Martin were at each other’s throats during their launch press conference on Saturday night.

‘Tank’ is set to defend his WBA lightweight world title against Martin on June 15 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The card will be supported by a clash for the WBC ‘interim’ light-heavyweight belt between David Benavidez and Oleksandr Gvozdyk, who joined Martin and Davis for a double-header presser.

However, the lightweights stole the show.

When they faced off to begin with, Davis slapped Martin’s hand away and the pair had to be separated by security.

On whether he was sure he’d be able to counterpunch so effectively: “He’s strong but I think he’s a little slow. I could see every punch … That’s why I’m the best. I’m the best fighter right now, for sure.”

Naturally, Álvarez is asked about a potential fight with David Benavidez, the three-time super middleweight champion who has been chasing the Mexican for years.

Canelo Álvarez beats Jaime Munguía by unanimous decision!

Canelo Álvarez has won a 12-round unanimous decision over Jaime Munguía to retain his WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO super middleweight titles. The official scores were 117-110, 116-111 and 115-112.

Round 12

Munguía needs a knockout and he’s fighting like he knows it. He comes out letting his hands go, but quickly tires as Álvarez coolly picks his shots with an eye on closing in style. Álvarez lands a sharp combination upstairs with about a minute left that briefly wobbles Munguía. Álvarez lands no fewer than five crunching power shots in the final 20 seconds, but Munguía somehow stays upright. There’s the final bell and the scores would seem little more than a formality.

Crowd-pleasing bursts of two-way action contested on even terms. Munguía closes the round on a roll, throwing about a dozen unanswered shots, many of which find the target. Álvarez lands a counter left before the bell, but Munguía’s eye-catching flurry in the final seconds was surely enough to win the frame.

Guardian’s unofficial score: Álvarez 9-10 Munguía (Álvarez 28-29 Munguía)

Round 2

Álvarez continues to land shots on Munguía’s elbows, a favorite technique down the years. He’s ramped up his work rate after a more measured opening round. Munguía lands a very nice one-two combo to the head and the body. Álvarez lands an even crisper one moments later on the forehand over Munguía’s lowered guard. Another very close round. Mike Tyson will take on Jake Paul in a controversial eight-round professional bout on July 20 in Arlington, Texas. Tyson, once the most feared fighter in the world, is 57 and has not fought professionally since hanging up his gloves in 2005 following his TKO loss to Kevin McBride (his 2020 bout against Roy Jones Jr. being an exhibition) and suffers from many health issues, including shot knees.

This means he is three decades older than Paul, who is in his athletic prime and coming off three wins in the last year alone. This gulf has predicably earned almost universal scorn from the fight world as a mere money grab. But not for Chael Sonnenwho compared Mike Tyson to Conor McGregor in one particular aspect.

At UFC 303 on June 29, Conor Mcgregor will be back in the Octagon against Michael Chandler after three years, following a potentially career-ending injury. As such, many questions are being raised about whether he can even compete against the top guys anymore. One particular cause of concern is his historically poor gas tank, which is likely to have further declined over the past three years.

Fan favorite UFC analyst Chael Sonnen thinks these concerns about their ability to make it to the final bell are something McGregor and Mike Tyson have in common as they gear up to make their much-awaited comebacks. This, ‘Uncle Chael’ believes, will motivate both men to try to knock out their respective opponents quickly.

“Two-minute rounds is what Mike did when he took on Roy [Jones Jr.]. The same Mike was completely exhausted… A combat’s athlete’s biggest fear is exhaustion. So if you’re a guy like Mike Tyson, right? And it’s the same situation that Conor McGregor is going into with Michael Chandler: ‘I can’t go to a decision and win and I don’t give a damn about moral victories. I’m going to give you everything I got and I’m going to get you out of here, or I’m going to be done, I’m going to be shot,” he said on his YouTube channel.

Sonnen felt that since Tyson and Paul will fight for eight two-minute rounds, with a minute of rest in between, the fears of Tyson getting exhausted are not as severe as would have been, had they decided to go with the standard three-minute rounds. But, given Tyson’s advanced age and health problem, he felt ‘Iron Mike’s best bet was a knockout early, just like McGregor. But despite all the disadvantages, Sonnen is one of the few people in the combat sports world who has picked Tyson to beat Paul.

This is why the UFC analyst, who grew up in the mean streets of West Lynn, Oregon, is surprised that Paul was going into the bout as the betting favorite. “It makes for a very interesting match when DraftKings gives and nudges Jake Paul slight favorite over greatly experienced and oversized Mike Tyson,” Sonnen mentioned.

Mike’s reputation, everything is going to change. Jake’s career comes to a screeching halt… It’s very fascinating,” he added.

Simone Biles is steadily making her comeback in gymnastics. Initially, the seven-time Olympic gymnast was poised to join the US women’s first national team camp of 2024 with a total of 26 participants. In a surprising turn of events, Simone didn’t perform at the Team USA camp. That sparked speculation and curiosity among her fans. Despite missing the USA Camp, a recent social media video of Simone Biles assures that she is ready to showcase her unparalleled talent on the world stage once again.

What Should Fans Expect From the Next Phase of Simone Biles's Career?

Recently, an Instagram handle posted a video of Simone Biles where they showcased some of the stunning shots of Simone performing in various competitions. The original post carried the caption, “Got to shoot one of the greats 📸🌟”. Reposting this video on her story Biles captioned“almost that time again, 😅🤸🎉👀 t-2 weeks.” She further wrote, “I Could Vomit” along with the clip. Apparently, with that comment, she referred to the nervousness of starting the season. And that happens in two weeks, that is May 17th and 18th, when the U.S. Classic in Hartford, Connecticut raises its curtains.

Biles is set to make her Olympic season debut in the U.S. Classic in Hartford. This return to the mat will mark Biles’ first competition since taking herself out of some events at the Tokyo Games in 2021. USA Gymnastics announced the full lineup for the event on April 12 via Twitter. Simone Biles, the world’s most decorated gymnast, will be joined by 2021 Olympic teammates Jade Carey and Jordan Chiles. The participation of 2012 Olympic champion Gabby Douglas is expected to be confirmed later.

This event will serve as a crucial qualifier for the Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships in May and the U.S. Olympic Trials in June, both of which will be essential steps in Biles’ quest to secure a spot on the 2024 U.S. Olympic team. She has been receiving support from her coach, Cecile Landi, as they focus on making her feel comfortable physically and mentally while training for upcoming events. In her recent comments, Biles has emphasized the importance of managing her physical and mental well-being in her training routine and opened up about her struggles.

The two-year break Simone took after the 2021 Tokoyo Olympics due to ‘twisties’ had to face a lot of struggles. During the training, she had twisties despite competing in the Tokyo Olympics just for the team’s sake. Simone had said in the popular podcast ‘Call Me Daddy,’  “I’m fighting demons right now, but I’m fighting for you guys.” She didn’t know what she would do at the event, so she prayed to god. After she got over with the performance, Simone wanted to run away from the people. Simone knew that was not her best performance. She shared in the podcast that her first thought after the performance was, “America hates me, the world is gonna hate me, and I could only see what they’re saying on Twitter right now.”

Simone Biles’ Best Moves

Simone was concerned about what the people of America would think about her after her flop performance. Through therapy, her coach, and her close ones’ support, she could come out of such trauma. Simone has been vocal about her coach, Laurent Landi, saying, “Whenever Laurent (Landi) last year, he told me I was competing. I was like, how can I compete? I’m not over the twisties yet. Because every time I went to bars or beam or floor, I was praying that I did the amount of twist I was supposed to.” At the 2023 World Championships in Belgium, Biles won gold medals in the team competition, all-around, balance beam, and floor exercise. She also won a silver medal in the vault final. With these wins, Biles became the most decorated gymnast in world and Olympic history, surpassing the previous record of 33 career medals held by Vitaly Scherbo. Surely, the Paris Olympics 2024 will add more notches on her bedpost.
