Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua could finally meet.

A target date has been set for the proposed showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.

Fury has arrived in Saudi Arabia for his undisputed clash against Oleksandr Usyk, which is slated for May 18.

He landed in the Middle East without a key family member in his team.

Joshua, meanwhile, is coming off a devastating win over former UFC champion Francis Ngannou and looks set to return to action in September.

Providing the self-proclaimed ‘Gypsy King’ beats Usyk, then Joshua could finally meet his heavyweight rival in an all-British dust-up.

A monstrous clash between Fury and Joshua could take place in Saudi Arabia or England.

As for the contracted rematch between Fury and Usyk, Alalshikh is lining up the rematch for October 12 or October 13.

But their second meeting will be without the IBF world title as the governing body ruled that Filip Hrgovic’s mandatory title shot as No.1 contender is overdue, meaning he could fight for the vacant belt when he takes on Daniel Dubois on June 1.

However, Hrgovic has been linked with a fight with Joshua, who could enter a potential fight against Fury with undisputed status on the line should he beat the Croatian star if they fought this year.

On May 5, 2007, Floyd Mayweather finally met WBC light-middleweight titleholder Oscar De La Hoya at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Paradise, Nevada. This was a much anticipated match up with “Money” getting the job done, winning by split decision, with the scorecards reading 116-112 and 115-113 for the Michigan native and 115-113 for De La Hoya. Floyd Mayweather Defeats Oscar De La Hoya by Split Decision

Floyd Mayweather vs. Oscar De La Hoya Recap

De La Hoya started brightly, cutting the ring off well, and working smartly on the inside, landing some nice combinations. “Money” was the defensive master and many of De La Hoya’s punches hit the arms or shoulders, and were not scoring shots. As the fight progressed, the accuracy of Mayweather saw him turn the tide.

His ability to land flush was incredibly impressive and showed what a difficult opponent he was to face. Despite the split decision verdict, it was difficult to watch the fight and score the contest in favour of De La Hoya.

Following this huge fight, “Money” went on to fight another 12 times, including some memorable fights, such as his KO victory over Ricky Hatton. De La Hoya enjoyed a storied professional career and this will to win has seen him become one of the most successful promoters in the sport. “The Golden Boy” after losing to Mayweather, defeated Steve Forbes by unanimous decision, before losing his final professional bout, in a brutal defeat to Manny Pacquaio.

Gervonta “Tank” Davis hasn’t fought since he defeated Ryan Garcia in April 2023, but it sounds like another fight against Garcia is intriguing to the WBA lightweight champion.

Davis said during an appearance on the Cigar Talk podcast that he’d be open to a rematch against Garcia, but he called for the fight to take place at 140 pounds when he was told Garcia floated the idea of fighting at a catchweight of 145 pounds.

Garcia may have already answered Davis’ question, as he failed to make the 140-pound limit for his fight against Devin Haney last month. He weighed in at 143 pounds and had to fork over $1.5 million as part of a bet with Haney as well as $600,000 from his fight purse.

Garcia went on to put on the best performance of his career, earning a majority decision win over Haney after scoring three knockdowns. However, it was announced after the fight Garcia tested positive for the banned substance Ostarine, so Haney is calling for the fight to be ruled a no-contest.

Davis fights at 135 pounds, so there’s virtually no chance of Garcia cutting to that weight. When they first fought, they met at a catchweight of 136 pounds with a 10-pound rehydration clause, and some pointed to that as being part of the reason Garcia folded on a body shot in the seventh round that gave Davis the TKO victory.

The records continue to tumble for Novak Djokovic now can set his sights on extending his place in the record books.

While the world No 1 has confirmed that hanging onto that top ranking is no longer on his list of priorities, he could now be presented with a chance to push for another remarkable milestone given the unfortunate setbacks for his rivals in recent weeks.

World No 2 Jannik Sinner has tested Djokovic in their recent meetings, as he has won three of their last four matches, including an impressive victory in the Australian Open semi-finals last January.

Sinner also won titles in Rotterdam and Miami this year, edging him up to second place in the rankings for the first time and opening the door to ousting Djokovic from top spot in Rome next week.

Yet his injury has ended that dream for now, with Sinenr’s next big chance to get to the top of the ATP Rankings and become the first Italian player to achieve that is on hold for now.

Carlos Alcaraz makes claim about Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic having 'weak points'

Carlos Alcaraz’s hopes of a return to the top of the ATP Rankings have also suffered a hammer blow, with his ongoing forearm injury problem seeing him pull out of tournaments in Monte Carlo and Barcelona, while it affected his performance in his defeat against Andrey Rublev in Madrid.

World No 3 Alcaraz has now pulled out of the Italian Open and has to be a doubt for the French Open later this month, with his fitness levels unlikely to be at their peak even if he plays in Paris.

Daniil Medvedev is another player suffering from injury, with the world No 4 pulling out of the Madrid Masters with a leg problem as he joins the list of players facing a race to win a fitness battle ahead of the second Grand Slam of 2024.

Djokovic has points of his own to prove after a challenging start to the year that has seen him fail to win a title and suffered some unexpected defeats.

Yet the Serbian legend has stated on numerous occasions that his chief targets for this year after the French Open and Wimbledon titles, as well as the Olympic Games in Paris.

“I don’t feel like I’m chasing anything now. I feel like I’m creating. That’s kind of a mindset I have,” said Djokovic.

“Of course, my greatest motivation is still love for the game. I really like competing. So as simple as that. Then, you know, I always have goals, you know, and to win another slam, to be No. 1 again, to finish the year as No. 1. Those are let’s say the big goals.

The challenge of playing week after week on the ATP Tour has been highlighted by the fitness issues afflicting Sinner, Alcaraz and Medvedev, with their bodies letting them down at a pivotal phase of the year.

Djokovic will need to raise his game to cash in on the misfortune of his big rivals, with some of his performance this year at a depleted level that will give lower-ranked players a chance to beat him.

Yet over a best-of-five-set format at the French Open and Wimbledon, Djokovic will fancy his chances of getting back onto the top step of winners’ podium at a time when the other member’s of the current top four in the rankings are all struggling.

Sinner’s absence from the Rome Masters ensured Djokovic will toast his 37th birthday as world No 1.

If he can win the French Open and Wimbledon once again this summer, it could give him a platform to aim for another year-end world No 1 ranking, with his weeks at the top after the age of 30 now up to a remarkable 200.

Last year, PGA officials granted the player a waiver to use the buggy. The English golfer can no longer play the 18 holes on foot due to the arthritis he suffers from in one of his ankles, and he needs medication to allow him to walk.
