Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury have been on a collision course for almost a decade but could finally settle their rivalry next year

Anthony Joshua’s long-awaited clash with Tyson Fury has been pencilled in for March.

The two Brits have traded verbal jabs for almost a decade but have failed to meet in the ring – despite several attempts. Joshua has won and lost world titles since first calling out Fury who is enjoying his second reign as world champion.

But the pair could meet for all four heavyweight belts next year – if they remain undefeated until then. Fury will put his unbeaten record on the line against fellow champion Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday week in a fight which will crown the division’s first undisputed ruler since Lennox Lewis in 1999.

Fury Vs. Joshua Should Not Be in Saudi Arabia, If Made, Promoter Says

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are set to lock horns in a huge bout on May 18 with each fighter attempting to etch their name in boxing history as the first undisputed heavyweight champion since 1999. The stakes couldn’t be higher as the pair will go head to head for the prestigious WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF titles.

The rivals have already agreed to a rematch which is expected to take place on either October 12 or 13. Three weeks before that, Joshua is expected to attempt to become a three-time world champion when he takes on either Daniel Dubois or Filip Hrgovic at Wembley.

Dubois and Hrgovic will clash on June 1 in Saudi Arabia for the IBF world title which will be stripped from the winner of Fury vs Usyk due to overdue mandatory obligations. If Fury wins back-to-back fights against Usyk, and Joshua has his hand raised in London, the two are expected to meet in a £200million mega-fight early in 2025.

The Brits could then rematch next summer, with the second fight potentially taking place at Wembley. Last month, Fury claimed he is ready to fight into his 40s – and walk to the ring another 10 times. “We’ve talked about 10 more fights and that’s the aim. I’m not even 36 yet so I’ll go to 40, all these fighters go to 40,” he said.

“If they can line them up quickly I’ll do them. I can get the best out of me when I have two, three, four fights on the spin. If they can do it, fantastic. I’ll do Usyk, Usyk, AJ, AJ – if he doesn’t get beat in the meantime – so that’s four.

“Then I’ll do Daniel Dubois and Joe Joyce, then Joseph Parker, that’s seven. Then I’ll go to America and chuck in an American, maybe Deontay Wilder for a fourth time. Maybe a European, an Agit Kabayel. Then for the 10th I’ll probably do a trilogy with Usyk.”

Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh is reportedly hoping to stage Naoya Inoue’s next fight at Wembley Stadium in September.

According to Yahoo Japan, Inoue has received an offer to fight on the Saudi backed Riyadh Season card headlined by Anthony Joshua on September 20/21.

Inoue is set to defend his undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO super-bantamweight world titles against IBF mandatory challenger Sam Goodman in his next outing.

‘The Monster’ welcomed Goodman into the ring after his sixth-round knockout win over Luis Nery on Monday and confirmed that the fight will take place in September.

Inoue is estimated to have earned $3.8million for his last bout while the Saudi’s are said to be willing to pay him up to $10m.

Why gun shy Anthony Joshua is not knocking out his opponents

The report goes on to add that Saudi Arabian government officials intend to visit Japan before the end of May to finalise the deal with alternative dates and venues also being considered.

A fight in Saudi Arabia or the Es Con Field Hokkaido, home of Japanese baseball side Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, have been floated around as other potential options.

Inoue hasn’t fought outside of Japan in three years.

Speaking on May 1, Woods confirmed his plan is still going ahead, telling NBC’s The Today Show: “The next three months, I have three majors, and hopefully that’ll all work out.”

The tennis champ dressed up like a literal trophy

Serena Williams just brought her winning style to the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Tonight in New York City, the tennis champion made a dazzling arrival at the 2024 Met Gala. To interpret this year’s “Garden of Time” dress code, Williams opted to dress up like a literal trophy in a metallic gilded gown. The unique golden piece had two trains extending down to the floor—one draping from behind her shoulder and the other descending from a side leg slit.

The star accented the knockout look with a few black elements, including opera-length gloves, sheer tights, and stiletto pumps.

At last year’s Met Gala, Williams announced her second pregnancy by showing off her baby bump in a sophisticated black gown from Gucci. (Since then, she has given birth to a second daughter, whom she and husband Alexis Ohanian named Adira River.)

This year’s dress code is “The Garden of Time,” a concept inspired by J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name. In essence, the theme examines the intrinsic connection between time and natural beauty—leaving the door wide open for attendees to interpret the dress code as they please.

“The Garden of Time” also complements the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” which will include about “250 objects spanning four centuries” from the institute’s vast collection, all of them “visually united by iconography related to nature, which will serve as a metaphor for the fragility and ephemerality of fashion,” according to a press release. The exhibition will feature a number of modern technologies in its display, too, “from cutting-edge tools, artificial intelligence, and computer-generated imagery to traditional formats of x-rays, video animation, light projection, and soundscapes.”

Andrey Rublev’s triumph in Madrid means it’s now time to move on to Rome for the next Masters 1000 event of the season – and though Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner might be missing, the rest of the draw is looking interesting.

The full draw was made on Monday morning. The seeds get a bye in the first round, leaving eyes to be drawn by a match that’s likely to be very feisty indeed – Dan Evans v Fabio Fognini, in the second quarter.

Rafael Nadal, back in Rome after his absence last year, will start his campaign against a qualifier before taking on Hubert Hurkacz – a tough task for anyone. If he overcomes the Pole, the Spaniard could face Tomas Etcheverry or Thiago Seyboth Wild, followed by Holger Rune in the round of 16 and defending champion Daniil Medvedev in the quarter-final. Stefanos Tsitsipas or Andrey Rublev could be his opponents in the last four.

Daniil Medvedev may be an unlikely defending champion given his reiterated dislike of clay, but he is looking to retain his crown in Rome. He begins with a bye and then has either Jack Draper or Borna Coric in the second round. He could then face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the third round, and Tommy Paul in the fourth round. Hurkacz is then his most likely quarter-final opponent, with either Rublev or Tsitsipas his rival for a place in the final.

The fight will take place over eight, two-minute rounds and both men will wear 14oz gloves and no headgear. Fans have since argued the fight shouldn’t be professionally sanctioned if the rounds are two-minutes long instead of three, but Paul has insisted Tyson was the one who requested it.

“I just want to make it clear, Mike Tyson is the one who wanted it to be a pro fight,” Paul said on his podcast. “I said to Nakisa, if that is what Mike wants, then that’s fine, but make sure if you tell Mike that there is no holding back. Whatever happens, happens and this is war now.

Stevenson badly wants to fight ‘Tank’ Davis, but it’s up to lightweight champion to make it happen

Shakur Stevenson is setting the stage for what could be the most significant fight in boxing by challenging Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.

As he seeks to elevate his profile for a shot at the lightweight world champion of the WBA, Stevenson has openly promised Davis a “rude awakening” should the opportunity arise for them to face each other.

He anticipates that their match, a classic showdown between a slugger and a boxer – both undefeated – would become a landmark event in the sport.

However, Davis, who has not fought in over a year and is expected to face Frank Martin later this year, dismisses the potential challenge from Stevenson as an easy fight due to Stevenson‘s perceived technical limitations.

In an interview on Naji’s podcast, Cigar Talks, Davis mocked Stevenson‘s abilities when asked if the 26-year-old challenger would be his toughest opponent to date:

“Hell no. Show me something he has done. Show me. His power isn’t scandalous. What defense? He’s just lacking,” Stevenson said.

These remarks did not sit well with Stevenson, who took to his X account (formerly Twitter) to respond to the criticisms, asserting that it would be “a rude awakening when fight night comes.”

Regarding the potential fight, Todd duBoef, President of Top Rank, indicated that it’s only a matter of time before it happens as their careers are on a “collision course.” He stated: “I hope so. I think it makes sense.”

In addition, Bob Arum expressed confidence in Stevenson‘s capabilities to defeat Davis, but emphasized that the decision ultimately rests with ‘Tank’ himself.

Who am I to make an offer to the biggest star in boxing? What can I offer him? It doesn’t make sense. It would have to come from his side, from his team, to want to make a fight,” Stevenson said.
