Devin Haney used to idolize Floyd Mayweather Jr. He wanted to tailor his game after “The Best Ever“, going so far as to use him as a mentor. But that relationship appears to have fully deteriorated and it hit rock bottom on Friday.

Ryan Garcia had shared footage of Haney getting pummeled by Gervonta “Tank” Davis during a sparring session. Despite Garcia admitting that Haney was only 17 at the time against the older Davis, the video has already circulated everywhere on social media.

Haney told Garcia to “eat a d**k” for releasing the video, but then took aim at Mayweather.

None of what Haney says would be too surprising if we delve a little bit deeper. Garcia recently spoke about Mayweather’s influence, and he seems to take what the legendary boxer says very seriously and into account.

Just a couple of days ago, Haney’s father, Bill, made a bold claim that a certain sparring session between Haney and Mayweather was a big reason why the then-40-year-old decided to walk away from boxing. Mayweather retired that same year after beating Conor McGregor.

We’re still 50 days away from Haney vs. Garcia, but it’s already been a chaotic start to the fight’s build-up.

Floyd Mayweather has dubbed Canelo Alvarez a ‘future Hall of Famer’.

The Mexican superstar has been headline news in boxing lately as speculation ramps up over his next steps in the paid ranks.

It was reported earlier this week that Canelo has split from Al Haymon’s PBC after completing just one of the three fights in his agreement with the American promotional outfit.

He is now a free agent and is currently fielding offers from other potential suitors.

It is a situation Mayweather knows all too well. In 2006, ‘TBE’ famously bought himself out of his contract with Top Rank for $750,000 to give himself more control over the direction of his career.

According to multiple reports, Canelo and PBC mutually agreed to part ways after failing to agree on who the former pound-for-pound king would face in his next two fights.

Mayweather – who handed Canelo the first defeat of his professional career back in 2013 – has now weighed in on the matter.

“A lot of time fighters got to do what’s best for them,” Mayweather told Fight Hype.

“You have to live with the decisions that you make. I was in that same situation.

“Canelo didn’t beat the world champions. He didn’t beat the champions by struggling.

“He clearly dominated a lot of those guys. He tested his skills. Light heavyweight, he won a title.

The former five-weight world champion then suggested Canelo would join him on the illustrious list of all-time greats when his career is all said and done.

“But he’s a Future Hall of Fame, a hell of a fighter, everybody wants their business different, I wish him nothing but the best,” he added.

Canelo is scheduled to return to the ring on Cinco de Mayo weekend in May although his opponent is yet to be announced.

There have been several different frontrunners over the last few days.

UPDATE NEWS ;Im the new Floyd Mayweather in the sport Jake Paul claims Carl Froch is considering coming out of retirement to fight him

Ahead of the bout scheduled for April 20th, at the press conference in New York, Ryan Garcia made a spectacle, bantering with Devin Haney. Besides boldly expressing that he desired to stop the WBC Super-Lightweight champion with only his “right hand“, ‘KingRy’ promised to retire professionally given he was knocked out by ‘The Dream’ in the very first round of their fight. But, the boxing world raised an eyebrow when Haney alleged that Garcia arrived drunk at their press conference.

Infuriated by Devin’s allegation, Garcia claimed he would “drink beer” and still “beat the f**k out of” Haney. Soon, the situation was aggravated when Garcia later smoked w**d live on social media, claiming he was “high as f**k“. At this, while the boxing community questioned Garcia’s integrity, Claressa Shields, the undisputed Middleweight champion, reacted to Garcia’s antics.

Is Devin Haney vs Ryan Garcia a Competitive Matchup? Claressa Shields Answers - EssentiallySports

At the New York press conference, Devin Haney claimed Garcia lacked the IQ, skills, and heart required to face ‘The Dream’. In addition to that, Haney referred to Garcia’s fight with Gervonta Davis. In the 7th round of their fight, Davis hit Garcia with a powerful body shot which led ‘KingRy’ to quit. Therefore, Haney said, “We’ve seen you take a knee, and it won’t be no different. When it gets hot, you quit.” However, Garcia claimed he would beat Haney up intoxicated.

At this, reacting to Garcia’s comments, Claressa Shields wrote, “Y’all i can’t breathe! Ryan said he drink & smoke weed!!!! this is the craziest press conference I’ve ever seen!” Anyway, even though Shields found Garcia’s banter with Haney entertaining, she thought Garcia was being over the top. Likewise, in a follow-up, Shields said, “I think the trash talk is too much for Ryan Garcia.”

In this context, it is worth mentioning that Shields is not the only person who feels Garcia crossed a line. In his latest interview with Fight Hub TV, even Caleb Plant implied that ‘KingRy’ was being carried away by his emotion. However, Garcia is scarcely bothered by Plant or Shields’ comments. As a result, the 25-year-old rode a horse to the LA press conference today to startle his fans more. Anyway, what do you make of Claressa’s reaction to Garcia’s trash talk?

Gervonta Davis has taken a swipe at Shakur Stevenson after his rival mocked his leaked sparring footage with Devin Haney.

Haney’s rival Ryan Garcia public post the sparring video on his YouTube channel, which appeared to show Haney being rocked by ‘Tank’.

Haney appeared to be on the back foot during the entire session, and Adrien Broner who was present, also stepped in and separated the action briefly.

WBC lightweight world champion Shakur Stevenson took to Twitter to respond to the video, tweeting: “Never in my life have I taken a beating like that by any fighter, good lord.”

Davis was prompt to fire back, in a later deleted tweet, writing: “You know what’s up too.”

Haney Responds: "Truth Be Told I Beat The Shit Out Of Tank"

The three-weight world champion called out Stevenson last year, but a showdown has not yet materialised.

Stevenson, who made the switch to lightweight has insisted that the 29-year-old is avoiding a clash, but believes it will happen eventually.

Haney has been in a verbal battle with Garcia since their April 20 blockbuster was confirmed.

The latest jibe with the sparring footage will likely anger Haney further, after fiery confrontations at their two face-offs on their media tour.

After the footage leaked, Haney was quick to issue his own response, tweeting: “Never did they post a chopped up edited video.

“16 years old & in there holding my own. We bet AB pops & he honoured it & paid! Ryan we watched you quit, we are not the same & never will be. Tune in April 20th, I’ll show it!”

Haney will be hoping to put the footage behind him, given the sparring was held several years ago before his world title rise.

It will be another big challenge against Garcia this spring, but he will be hoping to end their rivalry for good with a dominant win.

The pair have already met six times in the amateur ranks, with three wins apiece, and he will want more than ever to preserve his undefeated record as a professional.

The feud between ex-rivals Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia is getting hotter with each tweet and press conference. Amidst all the rising tension, ‘KingRy’, who recently mocked his opponent by wearing a T-shirt of Haney and P Diddy, who is in controversy lately, seems to not be stopping there. And now, continuing to take shots, he has leaked the infamous video of Haney being rocked by the boxing sensation Gervonta Davis. However, taking Garcia’s earlier statement into account, this move might bitter his relationship with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather.

It’s no longer a secret that Garcia and Mayweather have a strong bond. They often spend time together and are even spotted together at NBA games. However, Garcia might have damaged the relationship by sharing a video of Haney vs. Tank.

Recently, Garcia admitted that Mayweather had shown him the infamous video. Now, by sharing the video with the world, Garcia is taking things a step further and potentially risking the wrath of the boxing legend himself.

There is no doubt that Garcia’s recent moves have really heated up the rivalry, and added fuel to fire. And if people start questioning where he got the video from, things could get even messier between Garcia and Mayweather. Meanwhile, Haney has shared his take on the leaked video.

What did Devin Haney say about Ryan Garcia leaking the Gervonta Davis rocking him?

Devin Haney clearly wasn’t impressed with Garcia’s move. In response, he pointed out that the video Garcia posted doesn’t tell the whole story and highlights that he was only 16 years old at the time when he got wobbled by Tank’s shot. Adding to that, Haney mocked Garcia, mentioning that the world has seen him getting defeated by Davis on the big stage. He confidently stated that he’ll show his true skills on April 20, the fight day. In his words,

I’m inclined to agree with Anthony Joshua, that Tyson Fury is not the defining heavyweight of the age.

Fury has some incredible attributes and remains unbeaten, but is being measured largely on two great performances against Vladimir Klitschko in 2015 and Deontay Wilder four years ago, to the exclusion of lesser displays like, for example, Francis Ngannou last time out.

READ MORE ;‘Most avoided heavyweight on the planet’ will be a nightmare for Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk

Fury was down in the third that night, the seventh time he has been horizontal in his career, including 11 years ago at the hands of Steve Cunningham, an inflated cruiser giving away more than three stones.

Because of that it is hard to rate Ngannou’s power as it applies to a boxing ring. I’m not convinced he is the hardest punching heavyweight in the division.

Ngannou had never fought under Queensberry Rules. It might be that Fury made him look better than he is. I’m not sure that Fury took it seriously enough, though he clearly won the fight, despite the split verdict.

Boxing: Tyson Fury: I'll beat Joshua with two punches and I'll chew Ngannou up and spit him out | Marca

I believe Joshua is a better puncher than Fury. Not as fluid or as good a boxer, but more aggressive and, I suspect, too much for Ngannou when they meet next week in Riyadh.

It will be interesting to see how Joshua approaches it. There is jeopardy. Some think he is done after the defeat to Andy Ruiz and the successive losses against Oleksandr Usyk.

I’m not so sure. Ruiz is a good prizefighter after all, well-schooled. He knows his way about a ring and has hell of a dig. Usyk was just too good.

He has a way of dealing with big guys and may well be the victor when he faces Fury in May. That would be a disaster for Joshua as much as Fury. If Fury does prevail, I still think Joshua beats him. It’s all about styles, but that’s for another day.

I expect Ngannou’s limitations to be exposed by Joshua. Ngannou is not hard to hit. Joshua just has to be careful early on, get that jab going and run off his combinations.

Anthony Joshua: Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou is holding up boxing's heavyweight division | Sporting News

Once he hits Ngannou, the picture will change. I believe he will take him out, probably in the later rounds. The only way Ngannou wins is if Joshua gets careless. An orthodox display, high hands, tight defence and solid jab should expose Ngannou for the novice he is.

UPDATE NEWS ;Andy Ruiz was surprised by DMs from Anthony Joshua which inspired him to get back in the ring after rematch defeat

This is all geared towards that illusive showdown between Joshua and Fury. The problem is Usyk knows that, too, and is uniquely equipped to throw another spanner in the works.

Francis Ngannou decided to prepare for Anthony Joshua without the help of Mike Tyson.

Francis Ngannou has made a major decision regarding Mike Tyson ahead of his monstrous fight against Anthony Joshua.

Ngannou returns to the boxing ring next FRIDAY when he takes on former world heavyweight champion Joshua.

It will be his first appearance since his valiant showing against Tyson Fury, where he dropped the WBC title holder en route to losing a controversial decision.

Ngannou will look to get off the mark in the world of boxing following his high-profile UFC departure.

‘The Predator’ drafted in ‘Iron’ Mike for his training camp ahead of facing Fury last October and was ringside for their Riyadh clash.

But he has dropped the boxing icon from his camp ahead of his fight against Joshua.

“To be honest with this fight since my training was here [Riyadh], we didn’t get Mike Tyson here,” revealed Ngannou.

🚨 Former Anthony Joshua opponent makes shock prediction for his clash with Francis Ngannou

“He came in like three times [for Fury], he was more advising.

“He would come and watch our training, he would be there to give advice.”

Tyson helped Ngannou prepare for his boxing debut, with the fighter’s trainer, Dewey Cooper, explaining his involvement for this camp.

“Well, Mike is his family to us,” he said. “Mike and I have been friends since the 90s. He used to come to my fights and show me support and love, and Francis talked about this over four years ago. Before Francis won the heavyweight championship in the UFC, Mike Tyson was his inspiration to want to do this boxing thing.

“So, Francis and Mike Tyson have a very special relationship. So, even if Mike isn’t here, him and Francis talk, his motivation is there one way or another. “

Ngannou could emulate Tyson’s achievement of winning a world heavyweight title should he beat Joshua.

A victory over ‘AJ’ could see him land an undisputed showdown against the winner of Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk.

Ngannou is in preparation for his gigantic fight against Anthony Joshua in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on March 8.

He enters his bout with ‘AJ’ having taken Tyson Fury the distance in their clash last year.

Ngannou dropped Fury as he impressed fans and critics alike with his brilliant performance in his boxing debut.

The former UFC heavyweight champion will look to get off the mark in the boxing ranks when he meets the British star.

And he has sent a terrifying warning to Joshua ahead of their contest next week.

Ngannou showed off his incredible power as he landed a devastating right hand on a punch machine, recording a massive score of 999.

Is Mike Tyson Training Francis Ngannou Again to Beat Anthony Joshua?

He almost beat Fury in his last fight as former UFC fighter Dan Hardy reckons ‘The Predator’ will come out victorious against Joshua.

“I’m going with Ngannou genuinely,” said Hardy.

“I picked Fury in the last one. I felt Fury was going to be able to catch him fifth or sixth round once he started to get tired. But this for me is a much better match up for Ngannou.

“I feel like AJ’s easier to hit, easier to rattle psychologically and I feel like because of the unknown commodity of Francis Ngannou there’s going to be a shock to the system.”

A win over Joshua could see Ngannou secure a undisputed showdown against the winner of Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk, which goes down on May 18.
