Anthony Joshua, a two-time former unified world heavyweight champion, is convinced Oleksandr Usyk had beaten Tyson Fury in their undisputed heavyweight bout on Saturday.

Usyk won via split decision in Saudi Arabia, adding the WBC heavyweight belt to the IBF, WBO, and WBA titles he initially took from Joshua in 2021.

Although Fury led on two judges’ scorecards after eight rounds, Usyk’s powerful overhand left in the ninth round and a series of unanswered punches forced Fury to take a standing count.

Despite all three judges scoring the final round in Fury’s favour, it was too late, as Usyk won with scores of 115-112 and 114-113 on two cards.

Joshua, seated ringside alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, watched as Usyk handed Fury the first loss of his professional career in a thrilling fight.

Moments after the final bell, Joshua told TNT Sports that he believed Usyk had won. When asked who he thought was victorious, he immediately replied, “Usyk.” Upon being met with surprise, Joshua responded, “Huh, who do you think?”

In an interview with iFL TV, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn shared Joshua’s perspective: “He [Joshua] thought Usyk won. I asked him, ‘What do you think?’ and he said, ‘Usyk won it easy’. I had it quite close, but he was adamant.”

Hearn added, “I thought Fury boxed fantastically well in the first six rounds and was well on his way to a stoppage or points decision, but Usyk was incredible.”

When asked if Usyk’s win over Fury would affect Joshua’s plans, Hearn replied, “Not really. We want to regain the world heavyweight title, so whoever has it has it. The rematch is a big fight, likely set for October. We have to work on our plans, potentially at Wembley, and see what happens on June 1.”

MMA Fighting has Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk live round-by-round updates for one of the most anticipated boxing fights of the year on Saturday night at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The main event is expected to begin around 5 p.m. ET on DAZN and PPV.com pay-per-view. Check out our Fury vs. Usyk results page to find out what happened on the undercard.

Fury (34-0-1) is one of the most decorated heavyweight champions in recent history, but had an underwhelming performance against lineal UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou when the two fought each other this past October. Fury eked out a split decision victory over the boxing debutant, despite getting dropped in the third round. Now he faces a considerably more experienced opponent in Usyk.

Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk Card: What fights before Fury vs Usyk should you watch? | Marca

Usyk (21-0) is the 2012 Olympic gold medalist in boxing. He turned professional in 2013 and has been dominant since, becoming the first (and thus far only) undisputed cruiserweight champion in the four-belt era. Usyk then moved up to heavyweight, where he twice defeated Anthony Joshua to claim his current titles. Most recently, Usyk defended his belts with a ninth-round knockout of Daniel Dubois this past August.

And here comes Tyson Fury. He’s the clear crowd favorite, looking relaxed and ready as he plays to the masses. Bonnie Tyler urgent 1984 anthem Holding Out For A Hero plays at ear-splitting volume, a bit of English pride.

Oleksandr Usyk has made his entrance. He walks quickly and methodically to the ring like a tiger as his personal hymn (Гімн Олександра Усика by Браття) plays on the arena sound system.

Ring announcer Michael Buffer has emerged from the tunnel. He’s just called for a performance of Saudi Arabia’s national anthem, a brief instrumental rendition that’s played through quickly. Now the (great) Atlanta rapper JID is performing in an open-air cube that descended from the rafters directly above the ring.

It’s a quarter past midnight in Riyadh as the crowd awaits the entrances of Fury and Usyk. Here’s a dispatch from Donald McRae, our man at ringside:

Tyson Fury v Oleksandr Usyk LIVE - Undisputed heavyweight title showdown live coverage from Saudi Arabia - Eurosport

I must be a sucker for punishment as I have been in the arena since 5pm, Riyadh time. The first six bouts on a long old 10-fight card were watched mostly in silence with the Kingdom Arena slowly filling to around a third of its capacity by 10pm. It’s apparently sold out tonight, with around 22,000 people expected. On the swanky side of ringside the seat names suggest that Anthony Joshua will be watching Fury v Usyk next to Cristiano Ronaldo. AJ’s name is printed in full while his pal for the night is, of course, on CR7 brand on the piece of paper pinned to a chair.

Sergey Kovalev, who had been out of the ring for two years, should really slip away into permanent retirement. Not many were really watching but he took a methodical beating before being knocked down by Sweden’s Robin Sirwan Safar just seconds before the final bell. There were then two quick first round stoppage wins for Mark Chamberlain, the lightweight, and Moses Itauma, the promising 19-year-old British heavyweight.

The fight of the night so far, by some distance, was the all-British IBF world title fight between the super-featherweights, Anthony Cacace from Belfast and Joe Cordina from Cardiff. Cordina, the champion, was dropped heavily in round three. He looked in serious trouble but, with immense grit, fought back. Cacace, however, was relentless. Cordina, having apparently been through a really draining weight cut this week, wilted under a fierce barrage of punches in round eight and the referee rightly rescued him. Cacace, having just become a world champion, was understandably jubilant.

When they left the ring the arena was two-thirds full and a little louder. Just after midnight local time, as the atmosphere builds gradually, I should start getting ready for work and writing about Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.

NEW YORK — For the first time since arguably the most curious pairing in recent boxing history was announced, Mike Tyson and Jake Paul met face to face.

Inside the iconic Apollo Theater, where singular artists like Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, James Brown and Lauryn Hill once performed, Tyson and Paul held a press conference — alongside undercard fighters Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano — to hype their July 20 boxing match that will stream on Netflix at no additional cost to subscribers.

The atmosphere was festive and relaxed. There was no bad blood. The fighters in both matches expressed abundant respect and admiration for their opponents. During the face-off photo op at the end, as Tyson and Paul held their stares inches apart from each other, Tyson even playfully shadow boxed Paul with quick hooks to his opponent’s body. Both then broke out in laughter and lightly shoved each other.

Certainly, there was the usual bravado that characterizes these events.

Mike Tyson shouts ‘where’s this kid’s mother?’ as 14-year-old asks lewd question at his and Jake Paul’s press

“Yeah, look, they call him ‘Iron Mike’ Tyson,” Paul said at one point, “but I’m titanium Jake Paul.”

And this: “I’m going to show Mike who has more power.”

Yet, the press conference struggled at times to stake its promotion of the event as an exhibition, or the officially sanctioned fight that it has become.

An hour before it kicked off, the line for fans to file into the Apollo snaked around 125th Street and 8th Avenue. They wore New York Knicks hats and Tyson T-shirts with screen prints of his face splashed across the chest. The crowd, undoubtedly, was more sympathetic toward Tyson, who hails from the Brownsville neighborhood in east Brooklyn.

But there was also a contingent of younger audience members who professed their loyalty to Paul, whose platform on YouTube and social media has made him an icon for a generation with an unconventional, if uneven, exposure to boxing.

During an audience question-and-answer portion, a 16 year old from Queens who introduced himself as Xavier said he was an aspiring boxer who grew up watching Paul and his brother, Logan, and thanked them both for “making” his childhood.

The boy went on to reveal that he was pulling for Paul — “please don’t kill me, Mike” — and asked Paul what advice he would give young people with limited financial means who are interested in boxing. By the end of the exchange, Paul motioned for someone from his support team to take the boy’s information down because he promised to send him “a bunch of gear and stuff.”

Japanese boxer Naoya Inoue has been one of the most dominant boxers in the world over the last decades but he has only dominated in some of the lightest weight classes. He is a two-division undisputed champion of both the Banthamweight and Super Benthamweight divisions. Last Monday, he defeated Mexican Luis Nery after he got dropped early in the fight. Getting dropped by ‘Pantera’ was a wake up call for Inoue that got him to deliver one of the most dominating performances of his career. Such dominance invites anybody to speculate on Inoues chances against other great boxers from slightly heavier weight classes. We are specifically talking about Gervonta Davis, who is the current king of the Super Featherweight and Lightweight divisions.

There is always a frowned upon aspect of fighters from lower weight classes moving up to heavier tend to have a much harder time to win fights against their opponents. Inoue moving up a weight lass or two means he will finally get to challenge himself after dominating his usual weight classes. A perfect example of this is Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, who decided to risk it by moving up to Light Heavyweight to fight Dmitry Bivol and really struggled to keep himself composed. For Inoue, the challenge would be ultimate considering he is fighting Gervonta Davis, one of the scariest boxers in recent years. Boxing trainer Virgil Hunter is the on who speculated on Inoue’s next steps for his career.

Gervonta Davis knocks his sparring partner halfway out of the ring and gets out himself to mock him

Speaking to Fight Hype, Hunter said: “I don’t think Gervonta [Davis] should go below 135. I’m sure Inoue walks around at ’40, ’45 – 145. [Inoue would] have to come up just like everybody else. Where is the value of [Davis] coming to a catchweight to fight you? You’re big in Japan, and I’m big in the States. So there should not be any weight concession. ‘If you want to fight, come and fight me.’ Let’s not make any excuses. Rigondeaux fought Lomachenko; there was no catchweight involved. He dared to take that opportunity. [Rigondeaux] came up short, but he dared to take it. Charlo dared to fight Canelo at 168, coming from 154. So it’s only a few pounds north. You’re getting a little older. I’m sure you could carry the weight comfortably. So I wouldn’t make any concessions for that fight.”

Mike Tyson thinks Tyson Fury will beat Oleksandr Usyk when they clash for the undisputed world championship this weekend.

The two best heavyweights in boxing will battle it out for the WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF belts at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Saturday night.

Opinions are split on who will win the fight and become the first-ever four-belt heavyweight champion, but ‘Iron Mike’ is backing his namesake to emerge victoriously.

“I look forward to that fight,” Tyson told FightHype.

“I got to go with Fury. I think he’s the best fighter in the world, especially in the heavyweight division.”

Mike Tyson made bold Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk prediction after expertly breaking down fight

Fury had a poor performance in his last fight against Francis Ngannou.

The former UFC heavyweight champion should have been easy work for ‘The Gypsy King’ as he made his boxing debut when they fought last October.

However, he ended up dropping Fury before coming away with a contentious split decision defeat that aged badly as Anthony Joshua easily knocked out Ngannou earlier this year.

The heavyweight legend isn’t paying too much attention to Fury’s last showing.

“He made that night a great night. He gave Francis [Ngannou] the opportunity, and that was just a bad night at the office for him.

“We all have bad nights, and listen, that was his bad night.”

Tyson would usually be sitting in the front row for a bout like this, but it’s currently unclear if he will make the trip for Fury vs Usyk.

Amazingly, the 57-year-old has a big fight of his own coming up this summer.

Anthony Joshua is highly unlikely to fight the winner of Tyson Fury v Oleksandr Usyk in 2024 due to a rematch clause between the latter two fighters.

The loser of Fury and Usyk has a contractual right to trigger a rematch, expected to go ahead in October 2024 barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Therefore, Joshua is likely to be denied a shot at Fury – or a third crack at Usyk – until 2025 at the earliest.

Ukrainian champion goes into the unifying title bout against Briton Fury motivated to fight for his war-torn country.

Oleksandr Usyk may be the reigning WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight world champion but to many the Ukrainian is the underdog going into his long-awaited unifying title fight with Tyson Fury in Riyadh on Saturday.

Size matters, it seems, with southpaw Usyk conceding 15 centimetres (6 inches) in height to the 2.06-metre (6 foot 9 inch) Fury, 18cm in reach, and close to 22kg (49lbs) in weight.

And yet, he is not perturbed.

“To win this, I don’t need to be heavy, I need to be fast, and quick,” he told The Ring magazine in February just before the Fury fight was postponed after the Briton picked up a cut in training.

“You never see a fat wolf in the forest.”

It is easy to see Usyk as the lean wolf, cunning, quick and ruthlessly effective.

How to watch the Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk fight this week

His perfect record of 21 wins and no defeats as a pro, 14 of those inside the distance, speaks for itself.

And apart from those three heavyweight belts, he can also look back on a career that brought him Olympic gold in London in 2012 and the undisputed cruiserweight championship of the world.

Beyond the undoubted pedigree in the ring, he also has the fire within that a boxer desperately needs when he has reached the comfort of the mountain top.

‘Usyk is not fighting for himself’

The war in Ukraine, which followed Russia’s invasion in February 2022, has ensured that.

It gave Usyk an extra dimension when he faced Anthony Joshua in Jeddah in August that year, almost a year after he had taken the Briton’s titles in London.

“In the ninth round I realised that if I fall now, the spirit of the fighters who defend our country will also fall,” he told AFP news agency.

“I didn’t box for myself, I boxed for all those who defend the country.”

Eighteen months on from that fight and the Russians continue to wage war on Ukraine, adding fuel to the Usyk fire.

In some ways, it marks a shift in perception of the 37-year-old who also beat Daniel Dubois in Poland last August.

Boxers past and present predict Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk

Born in the Crimean town of Simferopol, he was accused by many Ukrainians of sitting on the fence over Russia’s annexation of the peninsular in 2014 and castigated for saying that Russians and Ukrainians were the same people.

Since Russia’s 2022 invasion, however, the tune has changed with promoter Alexander Krassyuk saying that Usyk “is the real inspiration for Ukraine, for the guys on the front line”.

“When he speaks, these words inspire the Ukrainian people and the soldiers to fight the enemy and to have courage,” Krassyuk told ProBox TV in August last year.

Tony Bellew is not the only one who feels this way if Mike Tyson gets hurt by Jake Paul

Jake Paul needs to undertand one thing, those of us who grew up watching Mike Tyson fight have gone through his transformation from the scariest man on the planet to the funny and wise uncle who is always high. Even during the face-off against Jake Paul, you could see Mike Tyson is no longer the same tough man who instilled fear on every single one of his opponents. He laughed and reminded all of us he has evolved, but has he evolved past violence? If that is the case, then Jake Paul does have a chance to beat him. But if Tyson’s violent self is still there, he will more than likely knock Jake Paul out when they fight. Still, that funny uncle is an image many of his cherish. So does Tony Bellew.

🚨 Tony Bellew admits he is worried about 'nuts' Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul clash

Speaking to Boyle Sports, Tony Bellew explained the reason he is against the fight and even threatened Jake Paul if he hurts Tyson. He said: “Mike is probably getting between $20-50 million for this fight, I’m not going to lie, I’d do it. Everyone has got a price. But if Jake Paul hurts Mike Tyson it would absolutely kill me. If he hurt Mike Tyson and then I run into Jake Paul, I’d chin him, quite happily. I would even spend a couple weeks in the big house for that. It’s a sad, sad day. It’s not a professional contest really because only women fight two minute rounds, men do not fight two minutes. But Jake Paul is so f*****g pig headed, he wants it to go on Mike Tyson’s record. Hopefully Mike chins him and puts him to sleep in six or seven seconds.”

Mike Tyson and Jake Paul fight 'will be staged to some degree' after boxing icon was 'forgotten about'

He continued: “The age Tyson is at, he could be Jake Paul’s grandfather, so it’s sad really. It should have been left as an exhibition. But that’s who he is, he’s after clout and fame. I just hope Mike has that one punch left in him. He will never lose that punch, he’s lost the snap and sharpness of it, but if he turns a right hand over and hits Jake Paul on the chin, the boy is going to sleep. But at 58 years old it’s f*****g frightening, this is show business. This really isn’t boxing. I don’t think Netflix cares about Mike’s health, they generated $25billion last year. Netflix doesn’t give a s**t about Mike Tyson. No one cares and the saddest part is, Mike knows that – he’s been there, done it and got the T-shirt.”

The first press conference ahead of the highly anticipated fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson has taken place, and fans think there is a clear winner following the face-off.

Both Paul and Tyson took part in a launch press conference on Monday ahead of their blockbuster fight on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, with tickets for the fight going for insane prices.

At the presser, Tyson sent Paul a rather chilling warning while his YouTuber opponent talked his usual talk.

“I really like Jake a lot, but once he’s in that ring, he has to fight like his life is depending on it. Because it will be.”
