British-Nigerian boxer Patricia Mbata comes from the famed Finchley and District Amateur Boxing Club, the same place where Anthony Joshua began his amateur career. Mbata has mentioned how Joshua has been supportive of her and it was again evident after she won a gold medal at the African Games.

Taking to his Instagram story, Anthony Joshua shared a picture of Patricia Mbata and other medal winners standing at the podium. “Our @finchleyabc CHAMP,” wrote on the IG Story. Below his message, there was a picture of To the bottom, just above a Nigerian flag where he added, “Nigeria Stand Up.” Akon‘s ‘Mama Africa’ could be heard running in the background. The story was tagged with the original post shared by the Nigerian athlete.

In the 75-kg weight class, after defeating Rady Adosinda Gramane of Mozambique, Mbata defeated Ben Marbrouk Molka of Tunisia by points to secure an eight gold medal in boxing for Nigeria at the African Games. The 2023 All-Africa Games, also called the Pan-Africa Games, took place in Accra, the capital of Ghana, from March 8 to March 23. Over two thousand athletes participated in the event. In the end, Egypt took home the top honors. With 47 gold, 33 silver, and 40 bronze medals, Nigeria stood second.

The 28-year-old Mbata has been boxing for nearly five years and is hopeful of securing her passage to the 2024 Paris Olympics during the Africa Boxing Olympic Qualifiers running from 9-15 September.

Patricia Mbata, like Joshua, is a British boxer of Nigerian descent. The former heavyweight champion remains an idol she looks up to always. Incidentally, she receives her training at the famed Finchley Amateur Boxing Club (Finchley ABC), which ‘AJ’ used to frequent during his initial years as an amateur boxer. The middleweight boxer fought her debut fight on December 7, 2019 and has talked about Joshua’s influence on her career.

In an interview with Olympics.com, Patricia Mbata talked about how Anthony Joshua’s journey inspires her. She said, “We started off at the same club. ANTHONY JOSHUA could be in line for a world title shot while waiting out the winner of Tyson Fury versus Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury and Usyk meet in the heavyweight division’s first four-belt unification on May 18 in Saudi Arabia.

And a rematch is to follow due to a clause in their contracts – but not all the titles are expected to be on the line for the second bout.

Filip Hrgovic is the current IBF mandatory challenger and next in line for a shot at the strap.

And by the time the rematch for Fury, 35, vs Usyk, 37, comes around the IBF gold will likely be vacated to allow for Hrgovic’s shot.

Joshua, 34, is just behind Hrgovic in the rankings and promoter Eddie Hearn is eyeing that fight for the vacant title if it does indeed become free.

It would give AJ the chance to become a three-time world champ while setting up potentially another undisputed clash between Fury or Usyk.

Joshua is coming off four wins, most recently a knockout over MMA superstar Francis Ngannou, 37.

Meanwhile, Hrgovic is in talks to fight Britain’s Daniel Dubois in Saudi on June 1 with Deontay Wilder also lined up to face China’s Zhilei Zhang.

It means if Dubois, 26, was to beat Hrgovic, 31, and inherit his right to challenge for the title, then Joshua could compete for it in an all-British blockbuster.

Dubois’ promoter Frank Warren confirmed the heavyweight is in talks for his next bout but welcomed the Joshua showdown in the future.

Team GB’s next super heavyweight boxing star Delicious Orie believes that Anthony Joshua’s former trainer is the right man to lead him to Olympic glory.

Every British super heavyweight boxer that has competed at the Olympic Games has won a medal. Orie is hoping to become the seventh at Paris 2024 and is the next cab off the rank in the division, following in the footsteps of the likes of Joshua, Audley Harrison and Joe Joyce.

The man in charge is GB Boxing supremo Rob McCracken, who coached Joshua through the professional ranks until they split in 2022 and guided Carl Froch through his entire career.

In 2023, Joshua said of McCracken: “Rob’s a really good coach. The only thing I’ll say though is look at Froch’s nose. He just didn’t teach me defence. I was getting hit way too much with clean shots. Rob was too committed to the Olympic team, not the pro team.”

Anthony Joshua propelled himself back into the heavyweight world title picture with a destructive second-round knockout win over Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia.

Anthony Joshua did not respond to these accusations, nor do we think he ever will respond because that is how the game is played. Fighters who know this sport will all tell you that they need to be prepared for anything. Ngannou wasn’t prepared for getting his time wasted and that played a significant role in his defeat. Anthony Joshua’s plans to become a three-time world heavyweight champion have hit a snag.

The Watford powerhouse is in a primed position to fight for the IBF title should it become vacant, as expected, after Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk do battle for all the marbles on May 18.

Multiple reports claim Joshua will box IBF mandatory Filip Hrgovic for the soon-to-be-vacated title in his next outing in either June or July.

The IBF are next up in the sanctioning body rotation system and so will have the opportunity to order Hrgovic to face the winner of Usyk vs Fury after their inaugural encounter.

However, the heavyweight titans are tied into a two-fight deal so they won’t be able to accept the call.

The IBF has already confirmed that they will strip the winner of the undisputed showdown should they proceed with their rematch and instead order a fight for the vacant belt between Hrgovic and the next highest-ranked boxer.

Currently, that is Joshua who is placed at No.3 in the major sanctioning body’s world heavyweight rankings with No.2 still unoccupied at the time of writing.

Although Shields did not confirm whether Hrgovic vs Dubois would be for the IBF belt it is definitely feasible as ‘Triple D’ is ranked at No.4.

Daniel Dubois Calls Out Filip Hrgovic For Joshua-Ngannou Card

The IBF may choose to elevate Dubois to the vacant No.2 spot when their rating panel meets again next month and then proceed to order a world title fight between Hrgovic and the British boxer.

It seems more than likely that this fight, if signed, will take place on the undercard of Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev’s undisputed light-heavyweight showdown, which is currently pencilled in for June 1 at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Anthony Joshua is chasing big fights.

Carl Frampton has urged Anthony Joshua to target a fight with Filip Hrgovic as he waits for the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk series to play out.

Joshua has spent the last year rebuilding following two losses to Usyk and his impressive form has seen him launch himself back into the title picture.

Earlier this month, Joshua wasted little time dispatching Francis Ngannou as he stopped the former UFC superstar in two rounds.

It was thought that Joshua could challenge the winner of Fury vs. Usyk, but with that bout containing rematch stipulations, Frampton has suggested that Joshua looks in a different direction.

Anthony Joshua should take on Filip Hrgovic rather than wait for the winner of Tyson Fury against Oleksandr Usyk, according to TNT Sports expert Carl Frampton. The 34-year-old’s other option is to take on Hrgovic, the mandatory challenger for the IBF heavyweight title.
“If I’m AJ I think I take a Hrgovic fight,” Frampton told TNT Sports.

Joshua has beaten Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin and Ngannou over the past 12 months, resurrecting his career after losses to Usyk in September 2021 and August 2022.
Frampton, a former super-bantamweight and featherweight champion, did not appear worried that Joshua was taking on too many fights.
