What is Errol Spence Jr. up to? The fans haven’t seen the former welterweight champion much in the public limelight since dropping his undefeated record and three gold straps to Terence Crawford. It seems he is currently basking in the comfort of his life, beyond the boxing ring and the borders of the United States.

‘The Truth’ has started to hit the gym after going through a cataract injury earlier this year and deciding not to trigger a rematch clause with ‘Bud’. However, the fans have raised concerns about him being in better shape, both physically and mentally. But they can lay their worries to rest, as Frank Martin issued an update on his famed stablemate.

Frank Martin gets controversial decision victory in Las Vegas

Martin, who is rumored to face Gervonta Davis next in June, appeared in an interview with Cigar Talk. The host curiously inquired about Spence Jr., who has been away from action since last July. The interviewer asked, “Tell me about EJ bro. We haven’t really seen or heard from him since the ‘Bud’ fight publicly, you know. What I mean interviews and all that sh*t… When you speak to him, do you feel like ni**a’s in a safe space? Do you feel like he still got that fighting spirit? Is EJ still EJ?”

Martin, 29, responded that Spence Jr. was living his life and chilling. The latter had barely been in the country. He said, “Yeah, EJ still EJ, you know. EJ just living his life, you know. He [is] chilling. He been boxing, he been boxing for a long time, you know. EJ chilling. EJ barely in the country. Man, EJ living.”

The host then remarked that Spence Jr.’s passport would have been going crazy. To that, Martin, at 18-0, hilariously replied, “He got stamps.” It seems the Long Island native has taken a break from boxing and is currently focused on healing. He needs some time to recover from the most devastating phase of his professional life.

But Spence Jr. hasn’t discarded a return to the ring. The 28-1 record holder still has some years left in him. But against whom is he targeting a return? Is there a name yet?

Spence Jr., 34, recently shunned fans’ suggestion that Keith Thurman was a worthy opponent who could welcome him to the boxing ring. But the welterweight boxer doesn’t share the same thought process. He was quick to strike out Thurman’s name from his list of probable opponents.

It remains to be seen when the American boxer can return to the squared circle, as he is yet to recover from his cataract surgery and achieve peak fitness levels. Meanwhile, Martin is well-positioned to challenge for a title against ‘Tank’ and awaits the official announcement.
