On May 1, 2024, Simone Biles tweeted, “X is a scary a** place,” expressing her emotions publicly. This tweet seemed to be an outburst due to the public scrutiny she and her partner, Jonathan Owens, faced after comments he made on ‘The Pivot Podcast.’ However, this frustration goes deeper, as this is not the first time Mrs. Owens has expressed her frustration with Elon Musk’s Twitter.

After the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Biles faced public scrutiny for her mental health crisis, being criticized for taking time off the mat and termed a “quitter” for choosing to protect her mental health. Hate was also thrown at Simone Biles even after her historic performance at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where she won five medals.

Criticism arose over one of her Instagram posts made seven years prior, with followers targeting her serious expression. Responding firmly, Biles said, “Talk to me when you train for 14 years and earn 5 Olympic Medals.” She expressed her frustration, adding, “Take a couple seats.” Additionally, she shared her dismay, stating, “Comments like this have me shook. I really wanted to blur her name out so she doesn’t get attention, but it is what it is… #BLOCK.”

She even faced hate in July 2021 when comedian Michael Che made insensitive comments about her on Instagram. His cruel jokes were posted on Twitter, including a joke about Larry Nassar, the former USA gymnastics doctor convicted of abusing hundreds of girls and women, including Simone Biles.

Then, in November 2022, Simone Biles expressed her frustration with Twitter after Elon Musk’s company took over. In an Instagram story, she showcased her problems with the platform, stating, “I’m literally about to delete Twitter, I can’t stand it anymore.” As we see a series of frustrations expressed over the years, we understand why Simone Biles’ most recent update surfaces.
