The boxing world had thus far seen them bickering. Events took a downturn when an online spat ensued between Ryan Garcia and Shakur Stevenson following the latter’s fight with Edwin De Los Santos in November last year. However, as it appears, the two seem to have agreed to put things at rest.

Recorded audio clips of Ryan Garcia and Shakur Stevenson have been gaining traction. The two reportedly joined a conversation on the X/Twitter space. In an animated discourse, they have seemingly agreed to fight. However, it is subject to a precondition. It seems a lot of it depends on Abdul Wahid (or, previously, Gervonta Davis).

Michael Benson shared in an Instagram post that an energetic exchange seems to have led Ryan Garcia and Shakur Stevenson to agree to a match. The message read, “‼️ Ryan Garcia and Shakur Stevenson are going at it on a Twitter today as Ryan agrees to fight Shakur after Devin Haney: “If I don’t get the rematch with Gervonta Davis, you have my word, we’ll fight.

Will you fight me if you win April 20th? That’s the question.” Stevenson could be heard checking with Garcia. The former interim lightweight champion stated matter-of-factly that he’s looking forward to a rematch with ‘Tank’. However, if it doesn’t materialize, then talks about a fight between the two could be initiated. “I want the rematch with ‘Tank’; if I can’t, we’ll start talking,” he said.

Shakur Stevenson sounded doubtful. However, the Californian boxer clarified why he would hesitate to fight with him when he’s already duked it out with ‘Tank’ and is now going to face Devin Haney. He expressed doubt about whether fans would be keen to watch their match.

Stevenson then sought confirmation. He said, “Okay so so can you give me your word that if you come out, even if you don’t come out victorious …will you fight me next will you fight me next?

Pat came the reply. “If I don’t get the rematch for Tank, I will do it; you have my word, you have my word,” said Ryan Garcia.

As most fans remember, Ryan Garcia and then Gervonta Davis fought a non-title bout in April last year. The duel ended with a seventh-round technical knockout win for the Baltimorean.

The match between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia took place at a catchweight of 136 pounds. Per the contract signed, a rematch would take place only if the Baltimorean lost the fight. Nevertheless, Ryan Garcia also made it clear subsequently that a rematch with ‘Tank would happen at 140 pounds only, without any rehydration clause. As it appears, the WBA lightweight champion doesn’t display any intent of moving out of the 135-pound bracket at least anytime soon. So going by what Garcia said today, does it mean we have a Shakur fight lined up next?

So after ‘Tank’ and Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia has nearly bagged the coveted Shakur Stevenson fight. It’s an effort worthy of every ounce of appreciation.
