Social media sensation Paul has never been dropped in 10 professional fights and he challenged boxing legend Tyson to try and put him down in their July fight

Jake Paul has challenged Mike Tyson to try and break his ‘iron chin’ in their boxing fight.

YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul has divided opinion since ditching his internet fame for a career in the ring and he will face 57-year-old boxing legend Tyson in his next fight. There will be over a 30-year age difference come the fight, which takes place at the 80,000 seat AT&T Stadium in Texas on July 20.

Iron Mike’ is known for being one of the most devastating knockout punchers in heavyweight boxing history, but his last professional fight took place almost two decades ago. Paul has never been dropped in 10 professional fights and has challenged Tyson to try and become the first man to put him down.

“I want to see how hard he hits. Mike, I really want to see, bro. Let’s see all the legends, the myths, because you’re Iron Mike Tyson, but I have an iron chin, people know that. I take shots. I think people are underestimating me being able to deal with his power, and that’s something that’s going to make it interesting,” Paul said on his BS podcast.

“I am biting off a lot. This is definitely the toughest, most savage, lethal opponent regardless of age, because the power is the last thing to go. The reaction and reception of it is insane. I almost can’t even believe it, so very surreal and very, very grateful for all of that. We’re going to see. I’m excited. I literally can’t wait to look across the ring and see him and give him a f****** death stare.”

Fine details for the fight, such as the amount of rounds and contracted weight, are yet to be revealed. Paul and Tyson are hoping for it to be sanctioned as a professional bout but the Texas Commission will have the final say. The fight will air live on Netflix and Paul thinks it won’t be the streaming giant’s only venture into combat sports.

Jake Paul-Mike Tyson: Rules, predictions, schedule for Netflix fight

“I did the face-off, and then I walked away and I just laughed to myself. I was like, ‘Ha! This is insane.’ On my screen, my eyeballs are the ones facing off against Mike Tyson, and I just couldn’t believe it. The fact that it’s on Netflix, I think that’s going to really revolutionise the game in boxing. I think streaming could eventually be a very bright future for the sport,” he added.

Jake Paul’s bold comments on boxing have stirred the pot again. This time, it’s about Ryan Garcia’s defeat. Garcia, floored by Gervonta Davis with a body shot, couldn’t rise on 20th April 2023. The moment was intense, and pivotal in the bout’s outcome. Meanwhile, Paul gears up for an unexpected ring return on 20th July.

His opponent? Boxing legend Mike Tyson. Yes, Tyson, 30 years older than Paul, is stepping back into the fray. Could Paul’s critique of Garcia come back to haunt him? Fans definitely are making him regret that.

Jake Paul didn’t mince words on the B/S Podcast. The conversation unfolded with the co-host probing, “What do you think the odds are that the fight with him and Devin Haney actually goes through and happens?” Without hesitation, Paul estimated, “I would say it’s like a 50-50.” But it was his next remark that turned heads. When asked about his pick for the fight, Paul declared, “Devin. He’s gonna smoke him.”

He elaborated, criticizing Garcia’s dedication and heart. “One person who’s been in the gym taking the sport seriously, Ryan, isn’t taking it seriously,” he argued, “and he showed me his lack of heart by not getting up off the canvas when he basically quit.” The conversation didn’t end there. Touching upon a potential future matchup with Ryan Garcia, Paul expressed, “As like an exhibition, probably. I would love to just like deflate his little 130 pounds.” This candid exchange set the stage for the uproar to follow, as Paul’s stark assessments ignited a firestorm of reactions

Firstly, one fan expressed disdain, highlighting the irony in Paul’s critique, “Jake has no room to talk about lack of heart shown in a fight while he’s about to fight a 60-year-old man 😤.” Next, another fan reminded everyone of Paul’s own ring challenges, “Dude, you lost to Love Island Tommy Fury.” This comment cut to the core of Paul’s credibility, questioning his standing to critique others after his own defeats.

Furthermore, another fan offered a blunt prediction, “He’d cook you Jake, even with the weight difference.” This highlighted doubts about Paul’s capability to withstand fighters like Garcia, despite the bravado. This fan added a touch of humor to the critique, “If dude got hit with that same body shot he’d probably be in the hospital straight up😂.”

Whereas this person summed up the community’s sentiment with biting sarcasm, “Lack of heart but dude is gonna fight someone 30 years older than him😂😂😂😂😂.” This underscored the perceived absurdity of Paul’s upcoming bout with Tyson, contrasting it with his criticism of Garcia’s performance.

He had already spoken about this on an Instagram live but he doubled down during his recent interview with Ariel Helwani at ‘The MMA Hour’.

He said: “Listen, I think we both fight at 3am. It’s not like I fought at 3 a.m. and he fought at like midnight or something. We both fought at 3am. What I think, something that’s happened is that they get me to the arena very early. Like my pickup time was 10.30pm to go to the arena. And then when we get to the arena, they tell us that we are scheduled around 1.45am. right? They come to the locker around 1 and Joshua [was just arriving around 1]. I’m like, ‘OK, we are fighting at the same time, how come I have a pickup time?’ We received a schedule, an email, and then for some reason I was there at least one hour before. But for the fight, at least two hours beforehand. They do this kind of trick to get you tired. I was like cool, I was like, ‘Bro, it’s OK.’ I didn’t know how it was, how important that was, until the fight day that I have to get there two hours before.”

Anthony Joshua did not respond to these accusations, nor do we think he ever will respond because that is how the game is played. Fighters who know this sport will all tell you that they need to be prepared for anything. Ngannou wasn’t prepared for getting his time wasted and that played a significant role in his defeat. For promoter Eddie Hearn, he only responded with a poignant quip: “I’m not sure he has come around yet.”

Novak Djokovic is enjoying “a little bit of an off-season” as he is using the “smaller” events to prepare for the French Open, Wimbledon and the Olympics, according to tennis great Mats Wilander.

The 2024 season has been a curious one so far for Djokovic as his Australian Open title defence came to an end in the semi-final as he was beaten in four sets by eventual champion Jannik Sinner.

The 24-time Grand Slam winner then opted to skip the Qatar Open before finally making his return at the Indian Wells Open at the beginning of March, but he was then stunned in the third round by the unheralded Luca Nardi, who was ranked No 123 at the time.

Djokovic was then due to appear at this week’s Miami Open, but withdrew from the ATP Masters 1000 event citing “balancing his private and professional schedule”.

But while the lack of titles and match practice could be problematic for other players, former world No 1 Wilander says there is no reason to be concerned if you a Djokovic fan as it is all part of a bigger plan for the Serbian with his focus on the Grand Slams and 2024 Paris Olympics.

“Novak Djokovic doesn’t really care when he loses in the smaller tournaments,” the seven-time Grand Slam winner told Eurosport.

“I mean, he would like to win every tournament, he’d like to win every match. But I do think that sometimes these days he goes on a trip just to test himself.

“‘How good has my practice been back home?’ or wherever he’s been practicing, and then he gets to a tournament and he’s playing the other pros, the best players in the world, and he realises after he wins a round or two or three or whatever the result is, I think he realises, ‘oh okay, I’m close enough, I don’t need to be any better at this particular moment’.

“‘The French Open is two months away and that’s when I need to be at my best for the French, for Wimbledon’, and then you push through and hope for the Olympics.

“But right now, in terms of competition, it is a little bit of an off-season. It would be great to win the Sunshine Double again for Novak Djokovic, but he’s not even playing in Miami.

“So basically, it’s a [case of] getting a couple of matches, understand that he’s very close, ‘I’m going to go home, I’m going to practice again and then I’ll be ready for the next match’.

“But I’m not worried. I was always worried about Novak winning too much and I think the last few years he hasn’t won too much on tour, which is why he’s winning so many Grand Slam tournaments because he’s fresh. I don’t think it matters.

Although he hasn’t confirmed his participation, Tiger could possibly compete in the Augusta National next month in April.

The PGA Tour has reported that Golf Hall of Famer Tiger Woods has been listed as active for the current Masters Tournament field list. This listing points to Tiger possibly competing in the Augusta National which starts next month on April 11 with pre-tournament dates of April 8-10.

The 48-year-old golfer injured himself last year during the third round of the 2023 Masters stating he had plantar fasciitis. He had surgery performed on his ankle shortly after pulling out of the tournament. He was able to come back from the surgery and played at the Hero World Challenge and PNC Championship last fall. He did make his first tour start since the surgery last month when he was active for The Genesis Invitational. He opened with a 1-over 72 but withdrew from the tournament on the seventh hole of the second round. The 2023 Masters was the only PGA tournament he played in last year after competing in the Masters, PGA Championship, and Open Championship the previous year in 2022, according to the Bleacher Report.

Tiger hasn’t made a tour start since The Genesis Invitational but there is speculation he will be playing at the Augusta National since his name is on the Masters Tournament list, although he has not confirmed his participation.

Inside Tiger Woods' blueprint for a massive 2024

Last month, it was announced that Tiger, along with other PGA Tour players are set to become equity holders in PGA Tour Enterprises, a newly established for-profit company, after a $3 billion investment from the Strategic Sports Group, according to MSN. The deal marks a significant moment in sports history now that the players will now own a share of the PGA Tour, a concept unprecedented in professional sports.

Tiger has played in 25 Masters, winning five of them (1997, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2019) – and is one win away from matching Jack Nicklaus’ record of six green jackets (the green jacket goes to the winner of the tournament). He is also tied with Fred Couples and Gary Player for making the cut in 23 consecutive starts at the Augusta National.

Novak Djokovic has confirmed he will play fewer ATP 1000 events as he edges towards the end of his career, but he appears to be preparing to hit the ground running at the start of the European clay court season.

The world No 1 has played just two matches since his defeat in the Australian Open semi-finals against Jannik Sinner, with his loss against world No 123 Luca Nardi in the third round of the Indian Wells Masters one of the biggest upsets he has suffered in his entire career.

That performance suggested Djokovic was lacking match practice after taking an extended break after he relinquished his Australian Open crown in Melbourne, but he made it clear that his tennis schedule would be greatly reduced as he pulled out of the Miami Open a few days later.

“At this stage of my career, I’m balancing my private and professional schedule. I’m sorry that I won’t experience some of the best and most passionate fans in the world,” said Djokovic as he confirmed he would not be making the trip to Miami.

The reasons he gave sparked some suggestions that he has lost some of the fire that has driven him to relentless success over the course of his record-breaking career.

Former world No 4 Henman then claimed that the 24-time Grand Slam champion not citing a physical reason for his withdrawal will lead to more speculation.

“It’s quite revealing in some respects because it could’ve been very easy to say, ‘my elbow’s a bit sore, heavy balls in the desert, and I’m gonna take time off’,” the six-time Grand Slam semi-finalist assessed.

“And no one would’ve said anything, but when you sort of elaborate down those avenues, I think it probably does lead a little bit more to speculation when you’re talking about your professional and personal life.

“So, fingers crossed he can sort out whatever the issues are and we can see him back on court in the not too distant future.”

Now it looks like Djokovic is preparing to start his preparations for the French Open by playing in the first ATP 1000 clay court event in Monte Carlo next month.

Djokovic, who is a resident in Monte Carlo, is a two-time champion in a tournament played in one of the most picturesque settings on the French Riviera.

Aside from his two wins in Monte Carlo, Djokovic has a relatively poor record at this tournament by his standards, as he has not got past the quarter-finals since he last lifted the trophy in 2015.

If recent history is a gauge, Djokovic is unlikely to play at the Madrid Masters event, but he is likely to compete at the Rome Masters in what would be his final tournament before the defend of his French Open crown.

Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal is also on the entry list in Monte Carlo, as he looks to bounce back from the back injury that ruled him out of playing at Indian Wells and Miami.

The glitz, glamour and tall tales of Las Vegas are like nothing else in boxing folklore. Saudi Arabia may be throwing mega money at blockbusting fights in 2024 but Sin City’s allure remains unmatched for the fight game.

That draw of a neon wonderland steeped in boxing is part of what persuaded Britain’s WBO welterweight champion Sandy Ryan (6-1-1, 2 KOs) to turn her life upside down in pursuit of greatness, changing her training and management team and relocating to the Mojave Desert ahead of Saturday’s showdown with two-weight world champion Terri Harper.

The 30-year-old was sporting a slight black eye from her endeavours at DLX Boxing when we spoke and she isn’t kidding when she talks about the sparring Stateside being of the highest level.

Since September’s controversial split decision draw against WBA and WBC champion Jessica McCaskill — a bout many observers felt Ryan won handily — she’s shared rounds with pound-for-pound superstar Claressa Shields.

“It’s great work,” she said. “I respect Claressa massively for what she’s done in the sport, so for me to get some work in with her, I appreciated it.

“We got some really great rounds in. I couldn’t ask for anything more.”

It’s not the first time Ryan has been the choice of gym opponent for the very best. Katie Taylor namechecked her sparring partner as a key ingredient in November’s revenge win over Chantelle Cameron for undisputed super lightweight glory. The WBO champ is now working with Taylor’s manager Brian Peters.

“They’re obviously completely different fighters but they’re both great in their own way,” Ryan said of Taylor and Shields, who are ranked No. 1 and No.2 on the Sporting News’ women’s P4P list. “They’re both very professional in their own way.

“I picked up a lot of things from both of them, which I’m grateful for. I believe I was a help to them also. It’s great as well because it shows where I belong. I’m up there sparring the greats. It’s where I want to get to, the pinnacle of the sport.”

That journey towards the summit continues this weekend against Harper (14-1-2, 6 KOs), another elite combatant Ryan has faced behind closed gym doors. Despite those exploits, this fight being back down at 147 lbs arguably moves Harper back towards her more natural weight. The confidence of both fighters heading into the matchup has lent a spiky edge to the build-up.

“She knows who I am and what I’m bringing to the table. I’m looking forward to getting the best of Terri Harper,” Ryan proclaimed.

“I feel like she’s going to try and box me but if she wants to stand there and fight me, either way I don’t mind. I’m confident in both, whichever way the fight is going to end up. I’m going to be dictating, I’m confident what I bring to the table will be enough to defeat Terri Harper.”

Harper’s previous title defence up at super welterweight ended in a disputed draw with Cecilia Braekhus at the same Sheffield Arena where Saturday’s blows will be traded.

Outcomes such as that and Ryan’s deeply questionable draw with McCaskill have added weight to arguments that the elite female fighters should be able to compete over three-minute rounds, allowing their range of skills more time to shine and decisively claim an upper hand.

“I don’t mind, I can fight two minutes or three minutes,” Ryan said. “I train three and four minute rounds in the gym so I don’t mind going to three minutes, but it’s not my call. I’m just doing what I’m told to do.

“I also believe that if they did make it three minutes then they have to make the pay equal if they’re making the time equal.”

With a grin, Paul suggested Leerdam should just look away if it happens.
