Novak Djokovic was not at his best on Thursday at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, but he did enough to gain revenge against Lorenzo Musetti at the ATP Masters 1000 clay-court event.

Twelve months ago, the Serbian suffered a shock third-round defeat to the Italian in the Principality and history threatened to repeat itself at this year’s edition after Musetti led by a break in the first set.

However, defeating Djokovic twice is no easy feat and the World No. 1 refused to succumb, finding enough consistency at crucial moments to advance to the quarter-finals 7-5, 6-3.

“It was a little exchange with the crowd at 4-3, 40/0 for him in the first set and ever since then I gained momentum,” Djokovic said when asked how he turned the tide in the opening set. “He lost focus a little bit. He was the better player for those first seven games, played some great tennis. Played really good shots and made me run.

“But this is clay and obviously things can turn around very quickly and a break of serve is not as a big advantage on this surface compared to the other surfaces. We saw a little bit of a rollercoaster in the second set, so I am pleased that staying tough and aggressive in the tight moments paid off.”

The 36-year-old is competing in his first event since splitting with former coach Goran Ivanisevic. The top seed, who has Nenad Zimonjic in his box this week, cut a frustrated figure at times in the first set against Musetti, who caused the Serbian problems with his court craft.

However, the Serbian gained the decisive break in the 12th game of the first set before he played with greater intensity and freedom in the second set to reach the last eight after one hour and 59 minutes.

“I don’t think I am still at my top level but it was a great test today against a great player, a very talented player,” Djokovic said. “I lost to him last year here, similar circumstances. I was a set and 4-2 up and I must say it was in the back of my mind when I was serving at 4-2, 40/15 and lost my serve today. I thought, ‘Oh no, hopefully this is not similar scenario like last year’. I am really glad to overcome the challenge and look forward to the next one.”

The rivalry between women’s boxing champions Claressa Shields (14-0) and Alycia Baumgardner (15-1) escalates as hip-hop gets involved, with Shields releasing a diss track on Wednesday (April 10).

Centered around a Maybach wearing all her belts, the undefeated champion flips GloRilla’s hit song, “Yeah Glo!” with her version, titled “Yeah GWOAT.” In the song, Shields flexes her accomplishments in boxing, references Baumgardner’s past cheating allegations, claims superiority, and more.

“Even on your best day, you couldn’t hurt me,” Shields raps. “What I look cutting 30 for a b*tch who drop dirty, n***a.”

The man once known as the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ has rarely fought following his official retirement back in 2005, with his appearances limited to two exhibition bouts since then. Still, recent footage of the former world unified heavyweight champion putting in his preparations for his comeback fight in the gym in the past month appeared to show that the icon still has his famous explosive power.

In clips posted on Instagram by ‘Iron Mike’, he was shown packing a mean punch as he was put through his paces during a series of exercises on the pads. However, his upcoming adversary Paul remains confident that he is the favourite coming into this summer’s contest, predicting he will be “too fast” and insisting he is not scared by his training videos. Netflix Boxing Match: Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson Will Stream in July

The Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul fight could be cancelled

Before the highly anticipated bout between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul,Mike will have to pass some tests according to TDLR’s regulations for combative sports, any contestant aged 36 or older must present a report of recent physical tests, including EEG and EKG results conducted within the past year. This requirement poses a hurdle for Tyson, who will be 58 at the time of the bout, placing him firmly in the age bracket subject to these rules.

Tyson Fury, the reigning WBC heavyweight champion, has asserted his dominance ahead of his highly anticipated clash with Oleksandr Usyk, declaring, “It’s my time, my destiny, my era, and my generation.”

Fury’s upcoming bout with Usyk, scheduled for May 18th in Saudi Arabia, is poised to be the first undisputed world heavyweight showdown of the century. Usyk, the reigning WBA, IBF, and WBO title-holder, poses a formidable challenge for Fury, having transitioned from unified cruiserweight champion to heavyweight contender in 2019.

Speaking at a press conference in Morecambe, Fury emphasized that the showdown with Usyk is strictly business, devoid of personal animosity. “There’s a lot of stuff on the line, but I don’t hate him, he don’t hate me,” Fury stated.

Drawing on his extensive knowledge of boxing history, Fury highlighted the challenges faced by cruiserweights when stepping up to compete against larger opponents in the heavyweight division. “When the cruiserweights step up to the big boys, usually they get found wanting,” Fury remarked. “You can beat the average big ones, but you can’t beat the elite big ones, because size really matters.”

RELATED :Derek Chisora claims he knows who Anthony Joshua is fighting next, and it’s not Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk

Fury’s confidence in his ability to overcome Usyk stems from his belief in the significance of weight divisions in boxing. He anticipates that Usyk will struggle against him due to the size disparity, echoing sentiments expressed in a previous statement regarding the limitations of cruiserweights competing against elite heavyweights.

Tyson Fury has emphasised facing Anthony Joshua is part of the plan for his next few fights if his fellow Briton “keeps going and keeps winning”.

Since being beaten twice by Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 and 2022, former world heavyweight champion Joshua has recorded four victories, most recently a second-round knockout win over ex-UFC fighter Francis Ngannou in Riyadh last month.

WBC title-holder Fury is currently preparing for a May 18 clash at the same venue with Usyk, who has the WBA, IBF and WBO belts, to crown the first undisputed world heavyweight champion of the century.

And on Joshua being part of the equation for what lies beyond that, Fury told the PA news agency: “Yeah, for sure – if he keeps going and keeps winning, like I’m going to keep doing.”

He added: “Either way, me and AJ could still fight at Wembley if we were 50 years old and still make a s**t ton of money. I think that’s facts for sure.”

In February, just after the meeting with Usyk had been rescheduled for May, Fury spoke about five fights he had in mind – two with Usyk, then facing Joshua “maybe twice” before a rematch against Ngannou, who he beat via split decision in October.

Fury said that was “just the start…five fights for you to whet your appetite”.

At a press conference in Morecambe on Wednesday, the talk was of 10 fights, with Turki Alalshikh, a Saudi adviser who has helped put on major boxing events, saying via a phonecall that was played out over a top-table microphone: “We want Tyson for five, seven, 10 fights more.”

And Fury told PA: “Ten-fight plan. Ten fights for over a billion dollars – doesn’t sound bad does it?”

Fury, who said he felt Joshua “did really well” against Ngannou, was knocked down by the mixed martial artist in the third round when they fought in October last year.

The clash between Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) and fellow unbeaten fighter Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) had originally been scheduled for February 17th, but was postponed 15 days prior to that after the former suffered a cut above his right eye in sparring.

“I’m not really proving anybody wrong or right any more, I’m just doing it for the fun and love of the game really.

As the French capital prepares to commemorate 100 days till the start of the Paris Games, another noble grandeur is scheduled in New York.  Michael Jordan and Simone Biles, two of the greatest athletes, will be among the guests of honor at the Buoniconti Fund 39th Great Sports Legends Dinner. Simultaneously, Marc Buoniconti’s book “Undefeated: From Tragedy to Triumph” was published that same year, adding a moving story about a person’s path from hardship to recovery and capturing the indomitable spirit at the core of the paralysis cure movement.

Terence Crawford is 36 now, staring up at either a legacy showdown in September against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez if he can sharpen his lobbying game, or the opportunity to enhance his pound-for-pound stature by winning a world title in a fourth weight class.

Trailing among those options is remaining a welterweight and fighting a still-developing non-champion 10 years his junior.

On Tuesday’s episode of ProBox TV’s “Deep Waters,” analysts Chris Algieri and Teddy Atlas both detailed the factors in place that are leading Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) away from a 147-pound date against Philadelphia’s Jaron “Boots” Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs) to either pursue a junior middleweight belt or to make a longshot play to fight Alvarez.

Teddy Atlas Reacts to Terence Crawford Dominating Errol Spence

“[Crawford] and his team have said Boots is not on their radar,” former 140-pound titleholder Algieri said. “It wasn’t the type of fight they’re looking for. They’re looking for big money.

“Let’s be honest: We’re at the stage of Terence Crawford’s career where he’s done it all. This is the twilight of his career. He’s looking to maximize his earnings and maximize his legendary status. … At this point, Terence Crawford is making money moves, and I’m not sure the Jaron Ennis fight is the kind of money that’s going to entice him to stay at 147.”

Ennis is on a course to make the first defense of his version of the welterweight title this summer, according to his freshly minted promoter Matchroom Boxing.

Despite Crawford having overwhelmed three-belt welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. in July, Crawford has given literally no indication he will return to the division where he stood as undisputed champion just a few months ago.

Teddy Atlas says Shawn Porter will tell us if Terence Crawford is the real deal

Not only has he called out Alvarez, but he has also appealed to the WBO to parlay his “super” champion status into an automatic shot at the champion, who surprisingly became California’s Sebastian Fundora, by virtue of his blood-soaked split-decision upset of previously unbeaten Australian Tim Tszyu on March 30.

Fundora suffered a broken nose in victory and is medically suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission until Sept. 27, likely meaning he won’t fight again until December.

Crawford could opt to meet Tszyu, as he planned, or pursue another 154-pound belt. But neither those titleholders nor Israil Madrimov or Bakhram Murtazaliev have the type of household name that Crawford seeks.

“He wins with everybody in that weight class now,” Atlas said on Tuesday’s episode of “Deep Waters.” “He carries his power. … What’s so special is what’s inside Crawford. He doesn’t believe you can beat him. He’s a special guy.

“And his timing is at a different dimension. He sees things other people don’t see. He’s so calm. Just a twitch of your muscle … you’re just starting to see that, and that’s why he’s always ahead of you.”

Jeff Horn, Teddy Atlas comments: Boxing trainer blasts Horn after loss to Terence Crawford

Alvarez is due in the ring May 4 in Las Vegas against former junior middleweight champion Jaime Munguia. Should Alvarez win, his choices to fight could be unbeaten former super middleweight champion David Benavidez, super middleweight Edgar Berlanga or Crawford.

It’s unknown how the WBO will handle Fundora’s extended absence.

Rather than remain in limbo, Crawford could opt for Tszyu or increase his intensity to request Alvarez, should the Mexican star dispose of Munguia.

“He has so many opportunities at the higher weight class,” Algieri said.

WOW! ATLAS TELLS WARD & TERENCE CRAWFORD LOMACHENKO IS THE P4P #1

Added Atlas: “And there’s no Godzilla up there [at 154]. Crawford can move up there and win.”

Atlas added another caveat:

“The thing I’d be worried about is the one enemy who’s undefeated against anybody, no matter what,” Atlas said. “And that’s Father Time.”

Most people can not deny the hold Gervonta Davis has over the sport. He is often referred to as the face of boxing! However, there are others, who, for many, also find themselves a place in that discussion. The CEO of Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe, seems to have made his choice in this divisive argument! Something that he said revealed his choice on social media today!

The entire conversation began with a simple question from Boxing News+, who asked, “Who is boxing’s most exciting fighter?” One fan promptly answered that it was Gervonta Davis and Jaron Ennis. However, Ellerbe seemingly disagreed, as he shared his own opinion! Here’s who Floyd Mayweather’s business partner thinks is the most exciting fighter!

Disagreeing with the user, Ellerbe confidently said, “Tank Davis is the most exciting fighter in the world!!!!!” In response to this, another user chimed in with his opinion, claiming Artur Beterbiev is the most exciting fighter, with Davis being a close second. However, Ellerbe wasn’t going to have any of it, as he disagreed even with the second user.

Ellerbe said, “That’s your opinion. I say Tank, and it ain’t close.” It’s worth mentioning that Davis hasn’t fought since his stoppage win over Ryan Garcia in April last year. Despite this year-long hiatus, Davis’ upcoming fight against Frank Martin is perhaps the most anticipated fight. Moreover, both Martin and Davis have seemingly confirmed the talks for their fight.

He added, “We’re still trying to wait on the venue and the exact date, but that’s not an official thing yet.”

Davis, Beterbiev, Ennis, or someone else entirely?

In response, Shields too has accepted such a prospect, even suggesting some venues for the much-anticipated fights. Since then, both fighters have had a constant back-and-forth regarding a rematch. However, now it seems like they may soon run it back again.

While the trainer is certain that the fight will happen in boxing format, lately, his fighter, Marshall, has been rallying to face off against Shields inside an MMA cage.
