One man who knows what a punch from Mike Tyson feels like is Peter McNeeley, who felt the ferocious power in 1995.

‘Hurricane’ McNeeley was plucked from relative obscurity to face Tyson in ‘Iron Mike’s’ first fight back after being released from prison, having been locked up since 1992.

The former undisputed heavyweight champion was convicted of the rape of Desiree Washington and sentenced to six years in prison, although he was granted parole halfway through his sentence.

Following rampant debate over who Tyson would face in his comeback fight – including reports of a potential clash with George Foreman – Tyson’s promoter Don King settled on the lesser-known McNeeley.

The fight took place on August 19, 1995 in a bout billed as ‘He’s Back’ at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas.

McNeeley did a lot talking in the build-up but was unable to back up his words in the ring as he was dispatched in only 89 seconds.

Recalling what it was like going toe-to-toe with Tyson during a wide-ranging interview with Sports Illustrated in 2010, 15 years after his biggest night in the ring, McNeeley said his power sticks out.

“At the weigh-in, I was 224Ibs and he was 220. They reweighed us one hour before the fight, after we’d both burned off a lot of nervous energy warming up. He was 216! I was 220.

“Mike Tyson at 216 is all [expletive] speed. The punches that hurt you the worst are the ones that you don’t see.

“It was just crazy. When I met with him much later, he was 240. He was huge. And when I fought him, he was all ripped up.”

Oleksandr Usyk’s team are not confident about Tyson Fury fighting in May, so they’ve already found a replacement.

Oleksandr Usyk and his team have already lined up a replacement fighter for Tyson Fury if the Briton were to pull out of their blockbuster clash once again in Saudi Arabia. The first undisputed heavyweight title fight in 25 years should be taking place next month in Riyadh when Fury, 35, and Usyk, 37, battle it out.

Fury, however, pulled out of the pair’s originally scheduled bout back in February due to a nasty cut he suffered just above the eye in sparring a few weeks out from fight night. He did, though, appear to be in career-best shape before he was forced to delay the fight.

Boxing promoter Frank Warren makes HUGE Tyson Fury admission after Usyk fight collapses

The undefeated British heavyweight hasn’t fought since his controversial split-decision victory over MMA star Francis Ngannou last year, and Usyk’s promoter doesn’t have much confidence that the two heavyweight champions will fulfill their two-fight deal if the Gypsy King was to be beaten next month.

They are starting to have serious doubts about the fight actually happening

Alex Krassyuk, Usyk’s promoter, told Boxing Scene: “Usyk has actually had a triple camp for this fight. He started in September for the fight to take place last December. We showed up to the Ngannou fight to step in the ring to announce the fight for the undisputed. We were then meant to fight on February 17, then we were rescheduled for May. Tyson Fury has withdrawn four times already from this fight.

Former heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz thinks that Anthony Joshua is finally starting to show the aggression that once defined his career, before he ran into a chunky power puncher with fast hands.

Ruiz was an athletic question mark before he dropped Joshua four times and stopped him to capture three heavyweight titles in their 2019 slugfest in Madison Square Garden. Joshua seemed to emerge from the first fight a little gun-shy, a little tentative. He won the rematch with Ruiz in a carefully calibrated, cautious performance, and his temperament seemed to be more safety-first than full-speed ahead. With two recent knockouts – including a whiplash, highlight-reel KO of Francis Ngannou – Joshua, Ruiz believes, is starting to regain his offensive-minded form.

“He’s getting his momentum back,” Ruiz said on Wednesday before a press conference in Manhattan, New York, to announce his bout with Jarrell Miller on Aug. 3 at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, as part of a stacked card headlined by Terence Crawford and Israil Madrimov. “He’s getting his confidence back. I think that’s the most important thing. He’s doing what he’s supposed to do. I think he’s doing his thing. I’m just happy for him. I would love to have that trilogy with him. He gave me that opportunity. I gave him back that opportunity, and there’s one more. I want to become a two-time heavyweight champion of the world.”

Ruiz (35-2, 22 KOs) qualified his remarks by saying that Joshua’s offensive success could be due in part to his opponents. Joshua dominated a very skilled but somewhat unproven commodity in Otto Wallin last December in a fifth-round stoppage and then blasted out a boxing novice in Ngannou in March in just two rounds.

“AJ’s been doing good. He’s been taking out the guys that he’s supposed to,” Ruiz said. “I’m not saying they’re super-good opponents that have really good skills. I’m sure if he fought someone else that had more skills, that wanted to win the fight and aren’t just facing him for the payday or the exposure, they want to win the fight and do whatever it takes – and I feel that should be me,” he said with a chuckle. “I give it all I have. I die inside that ring. But he’s been doing good and he’s been doing his thing.”

Ruiz hopes to return to the ring again in December following his bout with Miller (26-1-1, 22 KOs). Ruiz hasn’t fought since he decked Luis Ortiz three times on his way to a unanimous decision in September 2022. Ruiz underwent surgery on a torn rotator cuff last year.

“I have to climb up the ladder again,” Ruiz said. “After I do these fights and get back into the groove, I’d love to fight Joseph Parker, [Deontay] Wilder and Joshua. The main thing is training and staying in shape. After this fight, I plan on training and training and come back in December.”

The fight that everyone has been waiting for might just happen in 2024 with the help of this member of the Saudi Royal Court, but it won’t be easy

Boxing fans around the globe have been eagerly awaiting this fight, and with the help of an efficient mastermind, there is a great chance it could happen.

Saudi Royal Court member Turki Alalshikh has a real shot at organizing the highly anticipated Terence Crawfordvs. Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis fight. Although many boxing fans have long awaited this matchup, there are still details to iron out.

His Excellency faces some challenges in the near future because Crawford is set to face Israil Madrimov this summer. This fight is believed to be scheduled in Los Angeles, California, on the first weekend of August. Terence, a welterweight champion, will gain up to 7 more pounds to challenge Madrimov in the super welterweight division, moving from 147 to 154 pounds.

If this fight occurs and Crawford maintains his undefeated status (40-0, 42 KOs), everything points to a bout against ‘Boots’, even though he has never shown much excitement to face Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs). However, given that Terence Crawford would fight in August, there is a possibility he might not step into the ring until 2025.

Is ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in the plans of His Excellency?

Another fight that Turki Alalshikh is looking to set up involves Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, who will be battling Jaime Munguia on Saturday, May 4. Regardless of the outcome, ‘Canelo’ could face Terence Crawford soon. Alvarez (59-2-2, 39 KOs) has his eyes set on another fight in 2024, which would prevent a meeting with Crawford this year. However, with a short list of adversaries, His Excellency will be looking to capitalize on the success of the Mexican boxer early next year.

Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs), on the other hand, could suffer a significant blow to his career if he falls to ‘Canelo’, especially after not performing as well as everyone expects, based on average exhibitions in his recent fights.

More details about Crawford’s next two opponents will be revealed after this summer.

Kim, 21, was previously confirmed to be on the roster for the TGL, a team golf league backed by Woods and Rory McIlroy set to launch in January 2025, but was not yet committed to a team.

The young American floored his rival three times as he shocked the boxing world and ultimately won on points.

From the very first bell Garcia seized control, hurting Haney with a left hook in the opening round.

Garcia scored two further knockdowns in rounds 10 and 11 to seal a victory not many had predicted.

However, as he missed weight before the contest, he did not claim Haney’s belt with the win.

Regardless, the result is a huge triumph for Garcia and has set him up for massive future fights.

This was his second PPV outing, having lost his first major step-up against Gervonta Davis last year.

However, his happiness at seeing Garcia emerge victorious has not prevented him from firing a few shots in his old foe’s direction also.

She returned to competition, claiming the balance beam bronze medal, but also having started a worldwide conversation about mental health.
