YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul is sharing the ring with ‘Iron Mike’ this summer but it’s still unclear whether the fight will be professionally sanctioned or go ahead as an exhibition

Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul won’t be sanctioned as an exhibition fight, according to boxing legend Roy Jones Jr.

‘Iron Mike’ is back in the ring on July 20 for a one-off fight against social media sensation Paul, which takes place at the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium in Texas. An official ruleset for the fight hasn’t been announced but Jones, who was the last man to share the ring with Tyson, claims it won’t be a glorified sparring session as many fans have theorised.

“The Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson fight is not an exhibition, I’ve heard it’s been upgraded to a fight,” Jones said when speaking with The Lunch Club. “If it’s a fight, it’s very intriguing how it may turn out because Jake Paul has gotten a lot better as a boxer over the days but Mike Tyson even at 58 or however old he is, is still Mike Tyson.”

Tyson and Jones went eight rounds when they fought in November 2020, but the rounds were only two minutes long and no judges scored the fight. YouTube star Paul was also in action on the undercard when he fought for just the third time, brutally knocking out NBA star Nate Robinson.
There will be over a 30-year age difference between Paul and Tyson on fight night and many fans think ‘Iron Mike’ shouldn’t be anywhere near a boxing ring at his age. Paul holds a professional record of 9-1 and was in action last month, easily knocking out unknown boxer Ryan Bourland in one round.
